Chapter Text

Dazai, being the little shit he was, continued to annoy the ginger for the entirety of band; he definitely made the right choice of what activity to do.

By the time they were done Chuuya looked about ready to murder him, which did not remotely damper Dazai’s glee. What did damper it was the thought of going back home and having to deal with his dad and Elise and-

“Is that your motorcycle?” Dazai felt a lightbulb go off above his head.

“Yeah, so what?” Chuuya wonders, already snapping on his helmet; it was a sleek black color.

“Oh, nothing, I just thought we might be able to walk home together, at least partially. But it’s fine, don’t worry,” Dazai did his best to sound as pathetic as possible.

“You’re not getting picked up?” Chuuya spoke with a twinge of concern in his voice, and Dazai had to suppress a smirk.

The brunette doubled down on the lie; his dad would probably be here soon, or maybe his grandpa; he hadn’t asked who was picking him up, so he definitely needed to get out of here quickly.

“No, everyone’s busy.” He looked down like he was embarrassed, which was something he’d mastered from getting adults to do things for him.

The ginger was silent for a long moment, then let out a sigh and patted the back of his motorcycle. “Fine, get on.”

Now that he got what he wanted, Dazai allowed a grin to envelope his face. “I don’t have an extra helmet though, so don’t make me wreck, and don’t fall off,” Chuuya added in a grumbled, looking away from the other boy as Dazai climbed on behind him. Dazai didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around the ginger's waist; he didn’t think falling off the back of a motorcycle would be a very fun way to die.

The bike started with a lurch, and Dazai held on slightly tighter as the wind whipped around the both of them. Only then did it occur to him that Chuuya hadn’t asked where he lives, I mean, did he really remember from when they were kids?

The answer was a clear no as Chuuya pulled up to what Dazai could recognize from the few times he’d been there as Chuuya’s; it was huge, a gigantic mansion, the kind of thing most people only saw in movies, and though Dazai had been a few times when he was younger, that did not stop him from gawking at the pillars of cement and luscious gardens in the front.

After the ginger parked, Chuuya said, “I just gotta grab-” he wasn’t able to finish his sentence however, as Dazai was already knocking firmly on the front door.

By the time a very cross looking Chuuya had made it to Dazai’s side, Kouyou had already opened the door. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly, and she reminded Chuuya with no small amount of reprimand, “we agreed no guests.”

Chuuya open his mouth, likely intending to respond, but Dazai beat him to the punch, “don’t you recognize me?” Kouyou tilted her head, looking unamused, but a moment later her eyes widened in recognition. “Ah it’s little Osamu, isn’t it?” Dazai didn’t even fight his grin, at being recognized. “We can make an exception for you, I do suppose. Does your mom know you’re here?”

Dazai cringed slightly, not wanting to breach that topic. “I’ll make a call,” he answers, he made a habit out of not explicitly lying, that way he had a defense if anyone tried to call him out on it later.

Kouyou side stepped to let them into the house, the inside of which was even more grandiose than the outside, he wasn’t sure why five people needed such a big house, but he couldn’t exactly blame them for having it.

“Make yourself at home,” Kouyou said kindly, not sparing a glance at the still-upset midget who lingered by the door.

“Thank you, Ms. Kouyou,” Dazai said politely, giving her a bow. When he straightened back out, he headed onto the patio and took out his phone. He didn’t exactly want to talk to his dad, nor did he particularly care if he was worried about him, in fact, he was brought a small amount of joy imagining his dad arriving at the school only to find out Dazai had already left. But he didn’t fancy Kouyou getting mad at him for not telling his guardian where he was, so he dialed his father’s number.

“Osamu?” The voice said through the phone, and Dazai resisted a sigh.

“I’m staying at a friend’s house tonight, a sleepover,” Dazai stated, he didn’t like asking for things, especially not from his dad.

“Oh, that’s great, I’m glad you made a friend,” his father replied through the phone.

“Yeah... bye.” He hung up before his father could respond, or ask more questions. Like who it was, or what he planned to wear to sleep—he’d already decided on sleeping over, he just had to convince Kouyou, and it was easy to convince people to do the things he wanted.

Dazai came back inside the house, Chuuya had seated himself on the coach, staring grouchily at the blank TV like it had killed his entire family. His brother had also come, probably from his room, and seated himself on the couch, though he was very engrossed in his phone.

“Isn’t this nice?” Kouyou asked the room at large, however the only person to bother responding was Dazai, who nodded emphatically. “Yes, I wish my family did things like this. I hope I’m not intruding.” Dazai had learned from a young age that if you acted like you didn’t think you should be somewhere, people were more likely to take pity on you and let you stay.

Chuuya opened his mouth, probably to say something about how he should leave because it was family time and that meant Dazai wasn’t allowed, but Kouyou spoke before he could, “of course not, you’re welcome here any time.”

Chuuya sunk lower into the couch, glaring at the brunette, and mumbling, “you’ve got to be kidding me.” As Dazai placed himself beside him.

“How about we play a board game?” Kouyou suggested, trying to get her brothers to actual have a conversation.

Chuuya shrugged but he stopped glaring at Dazai to look at her instead, and Verlaine put down his phone, which was as close to a yes as she was going to get from either of them.

Notes:

…I’m not even gonna try giving an excuse. Anyways, I’ve learned how to write better, at least I think so. It feels better to read.
