Chapter 2 : A hangout between ‘friends’
After winning the band competition, Rose decided a party is needed to celebrate. The friend group is so lively right now that Adrien’s phone is about to explode.
After Adrien’s modeling photo shoot ended, he sat down on a sofa in a corner and turned on his phone. In an instant, hundreds of notifications flooded his home screen.
Rose: anyways, we should celebrate at Jul’s houseboat!
Juleka: Okay
Alya: Marinette wants to know who will be coming
Marinette: Alyaaaa
Rose: let’s invite all of our friends! Can we Luka?
Luka: Sure, set the date
Rose: This Saturday’s night?
Marinette: I can’t on Saturday
Nino: Can’t make it too lmao
Adrien: Me too
Luka: Oh hi Adrien, since we’re all bz on Saturday, let’s go with Sunday
Adrien: Okay :D
Marinette: Yesss
Everyone all agreed with the date set for the party. Adrien closed his phone and turned his attention towards the gloomy dark sky. Looks like it’s going to rain again. A honking sound brought him back to reality, his bodyguard had arrived. Adrien packed up his things and headed towards the car. Gorilla got out of the car to personally open the door for Adrien. As soon as his body touched the car seat, Adrien melted into the soft leather chair. He gazed outward, watching as raindrops began to pour onto the car’s window. The sound of the rain rang softly in his ears, it should have been a calm and peaceful moment for him, yet Adrien seemed to be enveloped in melancholy instead.
Earlier this morning, after a few fencing matches with his girlfriend, Kagami, Adrien went to sit in the locker room during break. Kagami sat beside him, her sharp eyes scrutinizing him thoroughly. “You look like you want to say something to me since morning.”
Adrien’s eyes widened at how Kagami knew he had something to say to her, but it wasn’t a huge surprise, Kagami has always been sharp and intelligent. However, Adrien wasn’t ready to discuss about ‘it’ yet. He doesn’t want to break Kagami’s heart. “Uh nothing Kagami.”
Kagami furrowed her brows and looked him in the eyes, “Adrien, do you want to break up with me?”
After knowing that she could tell what he wanted to say, Adrien could no longer hide it. “I’m sorry Kagami…” He turned to look away, knowing very well her eyes were still dead set on him. Silence filled the room, no one took the initiative to speak. Until finally, Kagami turned to look at him and said, “I can forgive you, but please don’t expect for us to get together again after this.”
Surprise etched up on Adrien’s face, he looked at Kagami with a mixture of shock and gratefulness. “So can we still be friends?”
“How can you trust someone who had hurt you? I will need time…goodbye Adrien.” And with that, she picked up her bag and walked out of the room, leaving Adrien sitting there alone.
“…”
Adrien couldn’t help feeling immense guilt for what he had done. He had hurt Kagami, the only girl who had seen him for who he was. And looking at what he had done, he could never make up for it. Why did he even do that? Why did he want to break up with Kagami? Adrien kept asking himself those questions, but deep down he knew that how he felt towards her was never love, only admiration. He knew he doesn’t love her romantically—he tried to, but he just couldn’t do it. But why didn’t he try harder? He’s such a jerk, and yet, Kagami still forgave him for what he did.
Looking back at what happened, Adrien still wants to give himself a slap. But alas, he could do nothing because what happened happened. Adrien sighed for the twelfth time inside the car until his phone lit up with a notification. Who could it be?
Adrien quickly picked up his phone and found that it was Luka. He opened the chat box to see the message Luka sent.
Luka: Hey Adrien, srry for disturbing, I accidentally bought 2 tickets to a concert and wanna ask if u wanna go w me tmr evening? the rest are all bz so there was only you ToT
Adrien: Hii Luka, I’m not quite sure, but I will ask my father’s assistant first. Dw, I will inform u when I get the permission asap
Luka: hahaha, thank you Adrien
Adrien: what kind of concert is it btw?
Luka: a band im following lately, they do indie rock
Adrien: ohh, that’s surprising, I thought you only like punk rock
Luka: loll, I’m open to any genre, as long as they’re good ofc
Adrien: Right right
The two continued to chat until Adrien reached the Agreste mansion. Natalie stood outside with an umbrella waiting for him. Adrien had to end his conversation with Luka, reluctantly. Talking with Luka was pretty fun, it felt like Luka could somehow understand him.
The thunder roared amidst the pouring rain, Adrien quickly got out of the car. He walked towards the Agreste’s Mansion with Natalie holding the umbrella. On the way, he asked “Natalie, will Father dine with me today?” A question he knew the answer to, yet he still hoped. Natalie looked down at him, her face expression cold but her eyes held a hint of genuine pity, “No Adrien.” she replied, cutting off whatever hope he had for today to be different.
Adrien sighed, looks like his father is busy again. Wait, he should ask her whether he can hangout with Luka or not tomorrow as well. “Natalie, can i go to a concert with my friend tomorrow?”
Natalie thought for a brief moment with her usual expressionless face. “You can go Adrien, but make sure to come back at 10.”
Adrien beamed at her words, his down spirit from before suddenly rising up again. “Thanks, Natalie.”
As soon as he finished his dinner, alone, Adrien hurriedly rushed to his bedroom and took out his phone. A smile lit up his face as he typed each words one by one.
Adrien: Hii Luka, Natalie said i can go tmmr
About 5 minutes later, Luka’s response came.
Luka: That’s great Adrien, let’s meet up at my place at 7, we’ll grab dinner at a place i know, are u alright with the plan?
Adrien: Yesss
Luka: Alright, see you tmmr Adrien
Adrien looked at the message Luka sent and suddenly felt like he wanted to continue talking with him. He hesitatingly stared at the message before typing in a response.
Adrien: See you tmmr Luka :]
He’s a bit tired anyways, plus, he is going to hang out with Luka tomorrow. Adrien took a shower and blowed his hair after. Plagg came back to make some chit-chat with him after eating his beloved camembert cheese. “Looks like someone got a date.” A cocky smirk creeped up his face.
Adrien’s face turned a bit red out of embarrassment. “What are you talking about Plagg? It’s just a hangout between me and my friend Luka.”
“Yeah right.” Plagg scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Nonetheless, u all will never compare to my darling camembert.”
Adrien grinned at Plagg’s antics, silly kwami. After drying his hair, Adrien hopped on to his bed, and quickly tuck himself in. He laid there comfortably. Sleep slowly overtook him, Adrien’s eyelids were now heavy. He slowly closed his eyes, and soon enough, Adrien had fallen asleep.

Another day flew by in a flash. Adrien couldn’t help looking forward to the hangout. Soon after, the sun descended back into the horizon, and dawn arrived for its usual duty. When the clock struck 7, Adrien had already arrived to the Liberty.
Under the dark moonlight, Luka stood calmly on the dock waiting for him, his tall figure leaning forward a bit as he watched the stars twinkled in the sky. His blue hair swayed gently with the wind. It looked like he was wearing a big shirt with baggy jeans, to top it off with his slightly messy hair, maybe Adrien didn’t notice before, but Luka was actually very handsome.
Well, the gentlemanly type of handsome.
It seemed he had heard the car’s engine arriving as Luka turned his head from his view to look at Adrien. Adrien wore a simple hoodie with a mask and cap on, to prevent people from noticing him of course. As Gorilla drove farther out of sight, Adrien walked towards Luka, who was standing there with a smile, “Hey Adrien.”
“Hi Luka.” Adrien returned the greetings. “Thanks for inviting me.” He added.
Luka laughed softly, “I should be the one thanking you instead Adrien.” He turned around and started walking, “Let’s go eat dinner.”
Adrien nodded and followed him from behind. A while later, Luka slowed down his steps to walk beside Adrien. “After dinner, do you mind taking the bus?”
Adrien looked up at the blue haired teen and answered, “I’ve never ridden one before, but i don’t mind trying.”
Luka hummed, “If you ever feel uncomfortable, then be sure to tell me.” he added teasingly, “Besides, why are you wearing a mask Adrien?”
“I just…didn’t want anyone to recognize me.”
“But are you comfortable wearing that?”
“…Not really.”
His gaze went to Adrien’s face, and Adrien felt like Luka was mad at him. He wasn’t sure, he just…felt like it. Great, now Luka won’t want to go with him anymore. As his mind was completely tangled up with messy thoughts, a hand crept up and slowly took off his mask. The brief touch felt like his mind had gotten electrocuted, it brought him back to reality. He looked up and found Luka smiling, mouthing words he could hear clearly through the rustling breeze, “Don’t worry Adrien, if anyone bothers you, i’ll get you out.”
A fluttering sensation filled his mind, Adrien could feel himself getting hotter and hotter. Seconds passed, but Adrien already felt like it had been a century. He got to say something—no, he needs to say something, quick. With every sense of his being, Adrien quickly opened his mouth “T-Thanks Luka! I appreciate it.” He retracted a step back, not wanting to feel too close to Luka. “I’m uh- very hungry now, shall we go?”
Luka laughed joyfully, taking in the sight of Adrien feeling shy of himself, but he didn’t tease Adrien further; otherwise, the boy might really get upset. “Let’s go.” He wrapped his arm around the blonde’s shoulder and they both walked side-by-side.
Feeling grateful to Luka for understanding him, Adrien accepted his physical interaction with ease while sighing internally.
They both walked for 10 minutes along the pathway until a small building came into view. The tiny shop was bustling with people in there, with loud clangs of dishes echoing throughout the place.
Adrien halted in his steps, he turned to look up at Luka and asked quietly, “Is this…the place?”
Luka looked at him with a smile, “Yes, it’s a Chinese owned business. I can guarantee you the food is really good.”
Adrien glanced around at the atmosphere and hesitated at the packed shop, but before he could say anything, Luka interjected, “If you’re not comfortable, then we can go somewhere else.” He added, “I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable when i asked you to hang out.”
Adrien quickly denied Luka’s suggestion, “Ah no need Luka, um, I could give this place a try!”
Luka sighed and led him in, “If you don’t like the place, tell me immediately. We can go somewhere else, there’s still an hour left until the concert.”
With a hum of confirmation, Adrien walked with Luka towards the shop. An old lady came out to greet them, but when she saw it was Luka, a smile lit up her face. She caught sight of Adrien and asked Luka warmly, “Is this your friend?”
Luka smiled at her and replied casually, “Yep, meet Adrien.”
Adrien shyly greeted her with a bow and the woman laughed. She exclaimed in her native language, “他很可爱啊! (He is so cute!)”
Red blush slowly crept up his face, Adrien looked down in embarrassment. He muttered quietly, replying back in Chinese, “不可以啊,阿姨。(No way ah, auntie.)”
The old woman was astonished at how Adrien could speak her mother tongue, “你会说汉语?!(You can speak Chinese?!)”
They both conversed back and forth in Chinese while Luka stood on the sideline and watched. He listened on to the conversation and quietly memorized what the old woman had said that made Adrien blushed. Hehe, he’ll translate it later, but now they both have to eat first, the concert will begin soon.
Luka smoothly spoke to the old woman, “Sorry to interrupt ma’am, but we are really in a hurry.”
The woman scoffed it off and scolded him, “You youngsters are always so energetic. Alright alright, go sit and order what you want ah. I need to go count money anyways.” She gave them a wave and walked off.
The two of them sat in an empty seat and ordered their preferred dishes. They both conversed while eating, the atmosphere was very light between them.
After dinner, Luka took Adrien for his first bus ride, which was a whole new experience for Adrien. When they both arrived at their destination, Luka led him towards a small concert arena.
There were a lot of people walking into the place, each walking in pairs or groups. Luka pulled out two tickets from his pocket, surprisingly, they were kept pretty neatly. “Let’s go.” he grinned at Adrien and swayed the tickets playfully.
Soft music wafted amidst the large crowds of people, everyone swayed gently, rocking their bodies to the gentle sound. Adrien stood among the audience with Luka behind him, he raised his head to look at the band playing instruments and singing their song.
The surroundings hummed to the song, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
Your smile, warm as the breeze sea
Adrien glanced up at Luka who was standing so close behind him.
Enchanted and foolish as I am
He found that Luka was also absorbed into the music, his eyes gazing off into the distance, his mouth humming softly to the lyrics.
But I’ll willingly fall, oh, I’ll risk it all for you
As if sensing his gaze, Luka turned his head to look back at Adrien. Deep blue eyes stared into his, there was something magical inside that dark enchanting color because Adrien felt like he was being hypnotized. Adrien’s entire body stiffened, he stood still, not moving a single inch as he stared back at Luka.
My heart, My soul, My love, for all that I have
Those dark blue irises quickly softened, Luka’s eyes crinkled into bright crescent moons. His mouth cracked into a bright smile, and all of this was towards Adrien. Adrien’s heart skipped a beat at that charming sight, electricity slowly coerced his entire being and he felt his guts suddenly twisting into an oddly ticklish feeling.
I’ll give it all, to you

The cooling breeze softly blowed both of the teens’ hair. Luka and Adrien walked back home together in a peaceful silence. It felt nice, the concert was also amazing, but having such good company felt good.
A light smile plastered itself onto Adrien’s face as he walked side by side with Luka.
Suddenly, he heard a quiet laugh from the young man beside him. “Why are you all smiley Adrien?” Luka asked.
Adrien was taken aback and suddenly felt embarrassed. “Ah, I just feel happy. Today was really fun.” He replied back with slight cheerfulness.
Luka: “We can hangout like this again if you want.”
A gentle smile bloomed on his face. Adrien halted in his steps, his eyes lingered towards Luka’s smile, “Actually I…”
“I didn’t have a good day yesterday.” He continued, “Kagami broke up with me.” Adrien’s head turned towards the Seine river as a sad smile covered his face.
“I’m so sorry to hear that Adrien.” Luka’s calming voice quickly rang out, the taller teen quickly tried to comfort the blonde. “Do you wanna hug?”
Adrien turned his head to look at Luka in surprise, then a relief sigh escaped his mouth, “I’d love to.”
Without another word, Luka immediately wrapped his arms around Adrien’s waist and embraced the blonde in a warm hug. Adrien returned the hug as he burrowed his head onto Luka’s shoulder. “Thank you Luka.” He muttered.
“No need for thanks.” The taller teen replied back as he pulled away from the hug. “Just know that you can come to me, anytime.” He softly said.
Adrien felt something warm blooming in his chest, his cheeks were stained a tiny bit of red, and he couldn’t resist smiling kindly at Luka. “You’re a good friend, Luka.”
“Thank you, you’re also a good friend too, Adrien.” Luka smiled widely, his hand rubbing Adrien’s blonde hair playfully.
Their silly interaction was suddenly interrupted by the sudden sound of a car’s engine.
“Oh, it’s time for you to go home now.” Luka spoke.
Adrien turned around and his gaze landed on Gorilla standing near the car, his hands clasped behind his back, and his expression was hinting to Adrien to quickly get into the car. Adrien smiled guiltily at Luka, it seemed like he couldn’t hang out with Luka anymore tonight.
Luka chuckled, “It’s alright. You should head back home, Adrien. It’s already late now. See you tomorrow.”
Right, the party. “See you tomorrow, Luka. And—goodbye!” As Adrien got into the car, he couldn’t help rolling down the window and giving the young man a wave of goodbye. Luka also waved his hand slightly as well.
On the way back home, Adrien sighed to himself in satisfaction. It’s a good thing he can meet Luka again tomorrow, Adrien is really looking forward to it.
