Chapter Text

“Tadashi!”

Kei watches his boyfriend’s head whip round as the sound of Yachi’s voice cuts through the wave of students leaving the lecture hall, Tadashi among them, a grin splitting across his face as he sees the two blondes waiting for him.

“Hi!” Tadashi waves as he approaches them, leaning up to greet Kei with a swift kiss on his cheek. Kei feels the blush creeping up his neck but smiles nonetheless, slipping his hand easily into Tadashi’s, before they hear a throat being cleared and Yachi’s disgruntled voice.

“I’m right here you guys,”

Tadashi turns with a badly suppressed grin, “Sorry Yach,”

“No you’re not,”

“No I’m not,” The three of them begin walking down the hall, heading for the courtyard. “What are you guys doing here anyway?”

“Well, I’ve got a class to get to, but Tsukki here is walking you to your shift!”

“I told you not to call me that.” Kei mutters but it’s half-hearted, an edge of a smirk in his voice as he grows steadily used to her teasing as each day goes by.

“Yeah, yeah, boyfriend privileges I know,”

Kei’s eyes drift sideways, catching the smirk now playing on Tadashi’s lips and he can’t help but feel one grow on his own.

“God, look at the two of you, it’s a wonder the universe didn’t pull you together sooner,” Though she scoffs, Yachi is also grinning as she looks between the two of them.

They come to a halt outside the art room Yachi spends most of her time holed up in according to Tadashi, and she spins round to face them, making eye contact with Kei, making his own eyes widen slightly. Despite her usual demeanor, she can be an intimidating presence when she gets determined about something.

“Right, before I go…we have discussed with the council and would like to officially invite you, Tsukishima Kei, to our study group tomorrow night.”

Kei raises an eyebrow, opening his mouth to respond but gets cut off as she puts up a hand and continues.

“Yes, I was against the idea at first because I didn’t want to be the only third wheel,” This elicits a stifled snicker from Tadashi on Kei’s left, “However, it was a council decision and I don’t know if we can hold off the wonder duo from meeting you any longer…besides I won’t be single much longer so the situation shall resolve itself!”

A grin grows on her lips, but Kei stays silent until he feels Tadashi nudge at his side.

“Um…am I being inducted into a cult?” This draws out another, less stifled, snicker.

She folds her arms over her chest with a slight scrunch of her eyebrows that reminds Kei too much of the freckled boy that occupies his every thought. Before she can reprimand him, he cuts her off.

“I’ll be there.”

Her eyes light up, “Yay! I gotta go, but I’ll see you then, have a good shift Tadashi!”

“I’ll try, bye Yach,”

As she disappears through the door to the art room, Tadashi turns to Kei, entwining their fingers once again, his eyes sparkling as his smile makes Kei’s heart flip upside down.

“Shall we?”

~

As the bell over the door announces their arrival at the Cozy Crow, much quieter than usual this afternoon as Kei scans the place and his eyes land on Oikawa and Sugawara, heads bent together over the counter. Kei still can never quite tell if they’re arguing or flirting and this case is no different. He hears a sigh from Tadashi as he calls to them as they approach.

“No making out in the cafe, you two,” He mutters to Kei as a side note, “I’m gonna have to start keeping a spray bottle for when Oikawa comes in,”

Kei smirks as the two jump apart, Sugawara looking a lot more flushed compared to Oikawa who lazily leans back and catches Kei’s eye with a wink.

“Don’t look at me like that, I’m on Tadashi’s side,”

“And here I was thinking having a boyfriend might make you nicer to me…”

Sugawara sidles round the counter with a cough, his blush dissipating quickly (Kei might have to take notes), giving Tadashi a nudge. “Got something to show you before I head off,”

Kei takes a seat at one of the barstools next to Oikawa, his eyes following Tadashi as he follows Suga to the backroom. He’s definitely visited enough times by now to anticipate the squeak of the door…which never comes. Wait…what?

Kei watches as the door swings open without a single noise, and closes again. The gasp that erupts from Tadashi causes several customers to raise their heads but he doesn't seem to care, not paying them any mind as he repeatedly swings the door back and forth a few more times before spinning around to face them all. The grin illuminating his face is contagious as Kei feels his own lips curl upwards.

Oikawa sighs next to him, “He finds joy in such trivial things,”

“And I’m happy to be one of them,” Oikawa sends him a sideways look, eyebrow raised, but Kei doesn’t care, he only has eyes for Tadashi.

“I’m getting us a table,” With that, Kei is left the only one seated at the bar.

Tadashi practically skips over to him, his eyes bright enough to light up the whole sky.

“See! This is why badgering Astumu always pays off, maybe I should get him a present or something, is that too far? I mean I know its not a huge deal but you have no idea how insane that’s been driving me for like months now and-”

“You’re so pretty.” Kei revels in the way Tadashi’s sentence stutters off as he blushes, but it does nothing to dim his smile as he leans forwards and leaves an almost feather-light kiss on Kei’s lips, whispering before straightening back up.

“Says you,”

The spell is broken by a call from the doorway and their heads whip round to see Sugawara leaving the cafe with one last word, “Hypocrites!”

Tadashi merely waves and covers his mouth as he laughs as Kei shakes his head with a smile, rising to his feet.

“I’m gonna stay and finish an essay for an hour or so, but I’ll come back to walk you home when you finish?”

“Sounds perfect,” Kei leaves with a brush of his lips against the back of Tadashi’s knuckles, his heart flipping at the tiny gasp that flutters from his boyfriend’s lips.

As he sits down opposite Oikawa, he catches Sugawara blowing a kiss through the window as he leaves, Oikawa mimes catching it.

“Sickening.”

“We know,” Oikawa merely gives him an evil grin and opens his laptop.

Before he settles into studying, Kei’s eyes can’t help but drift back to the counter one last time, the cat-eyed barista, Fukunaga, Kei thinks his name is, has silently appeared from the back room and is in conversation with Tadashi, who is still smiling.

The freckled boy reaches up to pull his hair into a ponytail, pieces falling into his face as usual. Normally this simple action would make Kei’s chest ache terribly, but now as he watches, his heart has never felt so full.
