Chapter Text

The two crept from the alleyway. Lando led Carlos down a secret pathway, hidden by brush by his house. They looped around the house until they had a vantage point.

“You know how to shoot?” Carlos questioned, lips brushing his ear, voice sending a shiver down his spine.

Lando tightened his grip on his gun. “Yes, I know ‘ow to shoot, ‘ou dumb fuck.”

Lando saw Carlos smirk from the corner of his eye.

“Then get to shooting, pretty boy.”

Lando turned his attention to the small pathway to his house. To the two of Lewis’s men that were walking up to his door.

Their first mistake was having no guns. There second mistake, well, they were just plain stupid.

Lando fired two quick shots. Both men dropped dead instantly.

He felt Carlos stiffen in surprise.

“What?” He asked innocently, “‘’uh just ’prised some old street trash beat yuh? I didn’t need any special train’n.”

Carlos scoffed. “I could out shoot you.”

Lando smirked. “I’d like to see that.”

Carlos took the gun from his hands and aimed at Lewis men few men.

Three clean headshots.

“Luck.” Lando egged on.

Lando took the gun back and finished the rest of them off.

“Let’s go have this shoot’n bet. If I win I pick my prize.”

“And if I win?” Carlos questioned, leaning over to tilt his chin up. He felt the man gazing at his lips.

“I pick your prize.”

Carlos grinned, “Deal.”

Lando led him to an empty area, a mile away from his house. He didn’t want to wake up his family with the noise.

A few rusty cans were still laying atop of the makeshift target.

“Shoot the can.”

Carlos took the gun and instantly shot the can. It fell off in one clean hit. Lando whistled and walked over to the can. He pick it up, then turned toward Carlos.

“Let’s up the ‘takes.”

Carlos nodded.

Lando placed the can atop his head. “Shoot the can.”

Carlos went still for a moment before reading the seriousness in his gaze. He aimed his gun. This time, he took a moment to aim. He fired. The gun flew off of his head, the bullet whistled as it struck home.

Lando laughed. “‘Good.”

Carlos walked too him and took the can, placing it on his head. “Your turn, cowboy.”

Lando walked to where Carlos was standing, and pulled out his pistol.

“Ballsy.” Carlos commented.

“Shut ‘up.” He murmured. “‘M try’n to focus. I can’t if I have to look at y’ur pretty mouth.”

Carlos went silent, but a small smile stayed on his lips.

Lando aimed.

He realized then how easily he could kill Carlos. Carlos must have seen the gaze in his eyes because he smirked.

“You know, you would get all of the money in the world for killing me.”

Lando fired.

The can shot off of Carlos head, yet the bullet nicked him slightly.

“Nah.” He mused. “I’ll be thrilled to share I made a Sainz bleed.”

Carlos took a step towards him, eyes dark. “What’s the prize?”

Lando smirked, leaning into Carlos’s face before pulling back. The man chased after him, but Lando only shook his head.

“Y’ur prize. Is this. Leave this town right now. In five minutes, a mob will be com’n this way. They will kill yah.”

Carlos eyes darkened a bit more. “You knew?”

“I knew who yew were the second yew walked in the bar. A sainz. I just did’n know which one. My friends have keen eyes. Sainz ain’t welcome out ‘ere.”

“Will I ever see you again?” Carlos asked.

Lando kissed him then. Hard. He allowed himself a moment to grieve what he could have had if a name didn’t mean so much.

“Only time will tell.”

Carlos pulled away. He scanned Lando, then wiped the blood away from his forehead.

He sent him one last nod, then he turned and walked away.
