Chapter Text
The sun was shining brightly, birds singing their songs, the flowers bright and joyous, and it was a beautiful day. An allium rose towards the sun, greedy to photosynthesize.
...that was, until a little avian fell tail end onto it.
Micha has reached the age where fledglings are expected to learn to fly, but sadly, due to his condition, it's... A little hard to do so. Not to mention, nobody's around to help him.
He tumbles off a tree branch, landing on the flower mentioned earlier, crumbling it, as he rolled down the hill, wings, talons, and feathers flying everywhere. Eventually, he stopped, sliding against the dirt, face buried into it.
He let out an 'oof', before picking himself up. His feathers were a mess, and his sweater was torn, but he was a determined little fledgling, even if his body ached protest.
Over the horizon, his sharp eyes caught movement, familiar colours reflected the sunlight, and his eyes flashed with recognition—it was Regect! He was probably tending to the carrot garden they shared, he'd grown fond of the vegetable since Micha barraged him with it.
Anyway, the little fledgling had renewed hope. To most, some might've found the entity scary, but Regect was just a big ol’ softie once you got to know him. He'd probably love to help Micha, he was his best friend after all.
The little avian hopped—which is how he ran—over to the entity, he was unbeknownst to the little kid barreling towards him.
“REGECT! REGECT!” The kid called excitedly, almost slamming into the entity's legs if he didn't flex his talons to weld himself to the ground. His tail flicked as Regect looked down at him, a loose feather falling.
“Yeah, what is it kid?” The entity tilted his head with inquiry, tail flicking as he looked at the fledgling, who was clearly tickled by something, wings twitching with excitement.
“Can you help me fly?” The avian asked him, practically shaking with excitement, brown eyes beaming at the entity.
“Uh, I dunno kid,” He fumbled as the kid looked up at him with puppy eyes. “Shouldn't you..y'know learn on your own?”
“Awh, Regect, PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE?” Micha pleaded, standing up on the tips of his talons, poking his lower lip out in the best pleading face imaginable.
Now, HOW could Regect say no to a face like that? It hurt to think about saying no!
“Alright, Em,” He said with a chuckle. “But just this once, kay?”
“Okay!” Micha chirped.
...
He did not help just once.
The two of them slammed into the ground, tumbling through tall grass and flowers, Regect getting the brute end of it, before they slid to a stop. If Regect's body followed basic biology, he'd probably have all his limbs broken. Micha, however, was relatively fine, atop Regect's back like he was a horse.
“Haha!” Micha giggled, bouncing up and down. “Can we do that again?”
Regect let out a muffled groan, but he said he'd help Micha fly. A promise is a promise, after all. He carefully got up, Micha sliding off of him and bouncing back up, while Regect popped his back.
“Okay, one more time, seriously, I don't think I'm going to last another time.” Regect said looking down at his son friend.
“Okay, okay, I think I can do it!” Micha said joyously, bouncing over to the tree they'd been practicing on. He scaled the tree trunk, getting onto a high branch, tail flicking eagerly and wings flared.
“READY?” Regect called, backing up a few feet.
“I'M READY!!” Micha yelled back, twitching with excitement.
“ALRIGHT...GO!”
Micha bolted off the branch, the limb shaking with his force, wings flapping hard enough to send leaves to fly everywhere. He managed to stay in the air for a few seconds, giddy warmth growing in his chest.
“I'M DOING IT REGECT!” He cried, the updraft of wind sending him higher as he was actually flying!
Only, as he prepared to land, there was a minor issue.
“UHHH—HOW DO I LAND?” He cried, starting to lose balance in the air as he feared he'd slam into the ground, this time without any protection.
Just as he was about to hit the ground, Regect caught him, claws sliding against the ground as they skidded to a stop.
“Caught ya’.” Regect said, before dropping Micha on the ground softly, to which the kid was shaking with adrenaline and excitement.
“DID YOU SEE THAT REGECT? DID YOU SEE THAT? DID YOU SEE THAT?!” Micha repeated, bouncing up and down in excitement.
“Yeah, kid, I sure did,” Regect said, before ruffling Micha's hair with a proud chuckle. “Good job, kid.”
“Let's play tag but we're flying!!” Micha yipped, and before Regect could say anything, he was already pushed playfully as Micha called, “Tag, you're it!”
He darted up into the sky, the juvenile already as fast as the next flier. Regect smiled, before calling. “Oh, it's on, kid!” Before bolting into the sky after him.
