Notes:

matcha, mitsuha, shiori, jiyushi, and oshine are my ocs. but also me if that makes sense? i see them as different people but they're also me? do we get that?

okay cool

anyways since duel academy canonically has history and other subjects, why not introduce the chaos of home economics to duel academy! and yes the first dish they're gonna be making is pasta. yes im fully aware that they would need to learn the basics of cooking. just pretend that the school expected them to know the basics

okay? cool.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Four days and 12 hours since the first years stepped foot on Duel Academy. And apparently, that's how long it took to utterly crumble the resolve of some of the poor students there already. Despite Duel Academy being, well, all about Duelling, the subjects there were strangely... normal.

Even if History was just about Ancient Egypt and the King of Games, Yugi Mutou.
Even if Maths was about calculating Duel strategies.
Even if English about writing essays on the importance of Duelling. (why though??)

And apparently, Home Economics was a part of the schedule? Why? Who knows? It doesn't make sense. It probably will never make sense.

(Looking at you, author, even though we're the same person typing this on a school day instead of doing work.)

A poor old Obelisk Blue student lay face-down over the grass, her voice muffled. Though, whether that's from the grass or the pure utter tiredness, who knows?

"Good grief..." She whined. Math sure was a torture method. Maybe it would have been an icon in medieval times. Or get you tied at the stake and set aflame.

"Mitsuha, maybe sit up properly? Eating dirt won't help your exhaustion." Shiori chided softly, patting Mitsuha on the back. The ravenette's hair splayed out in colours of black and dyed fierce red over her somehow already dirty blue uniform. (Much to Mitsuha's dismay, she had to wear the blue uniform despite wanting to wear red. Consequences of being one of the best.)

Mitsuha merely groaned weakly from the ground in reply.

Shiori quietly chuckled, dusting off a leaf from their Ra Yellow jacket. When the wind pushed past, they carefully pushed light blonde hair from their eyes.

The girl opposite Shiori merely scoffed, taking the top hat that had long since fallen off and forcefully shoving it back on Mitsuha's head. "Don't be so dramatic. Maths wasn't even that bad."

Mitsuha immediately propped her chin up on the grass, glaring at her fellow Obelisk Blue friend. "Easy for you to say, Oh-shine! You're good at Maths!"

Oshine glared. "It's Osh-ee-neh! You know this! And besides, you're good at Maths too. You just like to complain a lot, you little whine."

The former only stuck out her tongue in rebuttal. "Whatever!"

A dazed, green-haired girl blinked twice, before leaning onto her white-haired sister with a yawn. Oshine grumbled in response, but accepted the lean. "What's our next subject?" Jiyushi mumbled tiredly.

"Err... Geography?" Matcha had subconsciously took a strand of blonde hair and started twirling it around her finger. "I don't really know, though. Does anyone have their schedule list?"

Oshine stared at Matcha, as if almost disgusted by the fact the girl had already lost her schedule. She turned to the others, Shiori frowning while patting inside their bag, Jiyushi merely shrugging lightly before dozing off again, Mitsuha attempting a shake of her head, and Matcha pointing at a small river she had jumped over earlier, which had a suspicious sheet of paper floating on the surface.

"...God damnit, Matcha. Already?"

The Ra Yellow nodded furiously in reply.

Oshine sighed, before rummaging in her messenger bag and promptly whipped out the list for the day. "...Home Economics is next."

"Damn I thought it was gonna be Religion." Mitsuha huffed, sitting up and stretching out her arms. "Or something."

Shiori stood up, reaching down an arm to Mitsuha. "Why Religion?" Mitsuha took their arm and got up with a wobble, merely giving a shrug of her shoulders.

"Does anybody here know how to cook?"

For a split second, nobody replied. That in itself should have been a warning to at least two of the rational ones in the friend group.

Jiyushi whined as Oshine got up, irritated that she couldn't sleep for longer. "Awwww, who cares, do we have to go now?"

"...I don't usually cook." Shiori mumbled. "I usually... don't really eat, so..."

Mitsuha beamed. "I can make an egg!" She paused, before adding, "I think!"

Oshine pulled Jiyushi up, smacking her Slifer Red sister across the head when she tried to lie down again. "Everybody knows how to make an egg." She side-eyed Mitsuha, whos face dropped.

"Aw man." Mitsuha sighed.

Matcha scratched her head, fingers brushing blonde hair under patches of pink and green that was a bonnet. "I burnt beef once trying to heat it up... does that count?"

"No??? What the fuck???"
