Chapter Text
It hasn’t been long since Silver Wolf has been recruited into the Stellaron Hunters, and truly, she doesn’t know what to expect from her new companions.
So when she’s lured into the kitchen with the delightful smell of a savory breakfast after a long night of gaming, she doesn’t expect Blade to be the source of it.
Scrubbing the sand out of her eyes, she watches as Blade sets down a plate of eggs and bacon on the table.
Noticing her arrival, he tilts his head towards an open chair before sliding the plate in her direction. Without a word, he goes back to fix up another plate.
Feeling more awake than ever, Silver Wolf sits down in excitement. With the addition of a piece of toast and a glass of orange juice passed her way, it's the perfect picture of an ordinary breakfast.
She barely has the manners to wait for Blade to sit down before stuffing her face full. Fluffy eggs, crunchy bacon, sweet orange juice, she can’t recall the last time she ate something that wasn’t straight from the Omni-Synthesizer.
This is what they call a home cooked meal, right?
“Who cooked?” She asks, food flying out of her mouth.
Blade slides her a napkin. “I did.”
Silver Wolf glances at his hands and the slight tremble they emit as they transfer a piece of egg to his mouth. She swallows, “I thought your hands hurt too much.”
There’s the tiniest twitch to his lips when he answers “I have trouble with things that require dexterity, but simple eggs and bacon are easier than most dishes,” He flexes a hand. “Today is a better day than most.”
Does that mean he can finally play games with her? Before she could relay this line of thinking however, Blade holds that same hand up to stop her.
“Video games are off the table right now.”
She rolls her eyes but lets it go. Instead, she reaches over to butter his toast for him
“Does that mean there are other things you can make?” The next best thing is the possibility of eating more home cooked foods, maybe even sweets.
Blade in return refills her orange juice. “Perhaps,” he says vaguely.
Silver Wolf beams at him. That’s basically a yes!
In the face of her sparkling eyes, Blade lets out a tired sigh. “Foods that require a delicate amount of work like chopping, are troublesome and I’d rather not feed you guys my blood in the process.”
They continue eating in silence as Silver Wolf mulls over his words in her head.
“If I helped you with the hard parts, would you be willing to do it?” She asks.
It sounds like an easy fix, but the way Blade is staring back at her makes her think otherwise.
As the silence stretches between them, she finds herself losing her nerve. With each passing second, she can feel her face get hotter and hotter.
Just as she’s ready to take her words back, something magical happens.
Blade lets out a laugh.
“Yes, I think I would.”
The sound repeats itself in her head. It’s a quiet and tired sound, but this is the first time Blade has shown anything like this to her.
She feels like she should treasure it.
Feeling too shy to say anything else, Silver Wolf goes back to her food. The silence afterwards is a lot more comfortable after that, perhaps even homey. But of course that sort of thing never lasts long.
In comes Kafka sauntering through the door.
“Oh my, looks like I missed the party.” she teases. Grabbing a napkin, she tries to wipe off the leftover crumbs on Silver Wolf’s face.
“Ugh! Stop it, I’m not a child!” Silver Wolf cries, turning her face away from offending hands.
Kafka clicks her tongue. “Then don’t eat like one, Wolfie.”
Faced with her gentle scolding, Silver Wolf glares at her but sits still enough for her to clean her face.
With a laugh, she boops her nose, “Good girl.” Then with a glint in her eyes, she pushes back her bangs to add a mark of her own. Silver Wolf screeches as she tries to rub away the lipstick on her forehead.
Kafka pays her no mind as she turns her attention to Blade who passes her a piece of bacon. She gives him a kiss on the cheek in gratitude. humming in appreciation when she takes a bite.
“It’s a rare treat to have Bladie cook like this, too bad Firefly is gonna have to miss out this time.”
“There’s more on the stove.” Blade informs her.
“Wait, she’ll be back by tomorrow, right?” Silver Wolf pipes in, giving up on her current task.
Kafka smiles at her. “That’s what Elio says.”
So far, that guy hasn’t been wrong yet.
“Good, there’s an event coming up and I need a Player 2.” She feels excited just thinking about it.
“I’m glad to see you getting along with everyone Wolfie.” Kafka coos, eyes looking to her empty plate and the smear of red left on her forehead in fondness.
Having nothing to defend herself in the sudden onslaught of embarrassment she feels, Silver Wolf shoves her chair away in frustration. “Ugh!”
But before she can storm back into her room, she turns back to take her dirty dishes to the sink.
“Thank you for the meal.” She says shyly under her breath. Only then does she run back to her room.
Kafka and Blade share a look of amusement before continuing with their breakfast.
