Chapter Text

The Big Day

Kakashi

He looked in the mirror. His mask cover half of his face, his forehead was bare with the absence of his hitae-ate, his hair was finally adhering to the laws of physics, he was dressed in a nice white wedding suit, and he felt absolutely nervous. Guy was currently reassuring him that cold feet was perfectly normal.

"Kakashi, I guarantee you Iruka feels the same way," Guy puts his hand on Kakashi's shoulder. "It's a perfectly normal thing that couples experience on their wedding day."

"I doubt my sweetiebuns would ever feel like this," Kakashi sighs. "He's so perfect unlike me. I don't deserve him."

Iruka

"Oh my god, what if this doesn't work out," Iruka paces up and down the room in his wedding suit. His hair is styled down and his hitae-ate is off leaving his forehead bare except for a few stray hairs. Iruka sighs deeply before slinking down into a chair. "He's so perfect and I'm just me. I bet he's not even worrying right now. Why must I worry so much?"

"Iruka, I guarantee you he also is experiencing cold feet," Izumo places his hand on Iruka's shoulder. "It's perfectly normal, plenty of people experience it."

"I still think you're bluffing," Iruka frowns. "I bet he's not worrying about it one bit."

Kakashi

Here he was, the great, mighty, elusive copy-nin panicking over whether or not they'd be happy in marriage and whether or not it'd work out. He felt pathetic for this. Surely Iruka wouldn't be panicking about the same things right now. Surely this wasn't normal.

"I'm telling you Kakashi, this is very normal," Guy wheels over to Kakashi. "You're not pathetic or horrible for worrying about these things."

"Easy for you to say." Kakashi looks away from Guy.

"Do you know how many weddings I've been the best man or a groomsmen for?" Guy asks.

"No."

"A lot," Gai pats Kakashi's back. "Trust me when I say this is a very normal feeling." Guy looks back at the door. "Can I let Yamato in now?"

Kakashi stands up from his chair and unlocks the door letting his groomsmen, Yamato, in.

"Thank you, sempai," Yamato bows, still in his uniform having not been able to change into the wedding attire since Kakash locked him out. "Also, I passed by Kotetsu waiting outside the room with Iruka and Izumo in it. Trust me, you are not the only one and this is most obviously, very typical for couples on their wedding day."

Yamato grabs his suit and walks into the changing room without another word.

Hm, I guess I'm not the only one. That's a bit reassuring. Hope my fiancé (very handsome and amazing fiancé) is doing well.

Iruka

Iruka was most definitely not doing okay between feeling like a horrible person for worrying about these things and worrying that things wouldn't work out or that they wouldn't be happy as a married couple. Surely Kakashi wouldn't be panicking about the same things right now. Surely this wasn't normal.

"Iruka, this is normal, it happens all the time." Izumo sits down next to Kakashi. "You're not a horrible person for worrying about these things."

"Easy for you to say." Iruka mutters.

"Bitch, you were my best man at my wedding," Izumo grabs Iruka's face and makes him look at him. "You saw me panicking about the same damn shit."

"Wait, so I wasn't the only one?" Kotetsu calls from behind the door. "Also may I be let in?"

"Just a second, baby," Izumo looks at Iruka who nods before walking over and letting Kotetsu in. "Sorry, we locked you out for so long."

"It's okay," Kotetsu walks in, grabs his suit, and goes to change but not before looking at Iruka and saying one more thing. "And Iruka, my husband's right, Kakashi is panicking though he's started to calm down since finding out that you are also worrying because it's totally normal."

Maybe this feeling is more normal than I thought since Kotetsu and Izumo felt this way and my fiancé feels this way right now. I'm not sure why, but that seems to put my mind at ease.

Kakashi

Kakashi adjusts his tie to even it out a bit.

"Hmmmmm, do you think he'd like it if I went no mask?" Kakashi asks.

"Kakashi, I have never even seen your face before," Guy starts. "I don't think you want to send everyone into shock with whatever you've been hiding under there. Plus, last I checked that man has vowed to never let anyone else see your face."

"Oh yeah, I forgot about that." Kakashi scratches the back of his head.

"Sempai, how did you forget that," Yamato asks. "Iruka being that mad is very unforgettable and to think it started with your students trying to figure out your face again."

"Debates about Kakashi's face aside," Guy wheels himself towards the door. "It's almost time for the ceremony."

Iruka

"Iruka, let's go before you end up being late," Kotetsu walks over to the door. "We're supposed to go out there before Kakashi, Yamato, and Guy."

Iruka nods and they walk out and make their way out to the front of the venue.

Stairs, huh? How will they get Guy up here?

Kotetsu and Izumo lead Iruka to his spot next to the officiant before going off to the side. They wait until they finally see Kakashi walk out holding Guy's wheelchair but with no Guy in it. Then they watched Yamato walk out carrying Guy himself, in the flesh.

Kakashi sets down the wheelchair and Yamato sets Guy down into the wheelchair. After their done with that Kakashi walks over to where the officiant and Iruka stood.

So that's how, huh?

Kakashi

Kakashi pushes Guy's wheelchair until they reach the stairs. Of course there's fucking stair, why wouldn't there be.

"I carry the wheelchair, you carry the Guy." Kakashi points at Yamato.

And thus, Kakashi carried the wheelchair out and Yamato carried the Guy out. They got him situated then Kakashi walked over to Iruka and the officiant. In Kakashi's professional opinion, Iruka looked amazing with his hair down like this.

The Eye of The Officiant

You know what you guys? I think this is going to be a very interesting wedding. Not the most interesting I've seen but I'm guessing it'll be up there.

The Eye of Iruka

We're finally here.

I'm marrying the love of my life.

The officiant began to speak. "Friends, family, and loved ones, we come together today, in the sight of the divine and of you as witnesses to join Kakashi Hatake and Iruka Umino in marriage. We gather around them now in this wonderful place, and we look on with love and hope as these two begin their new life together as one."

I hold my breath. It's finally here. I'm marrying him.

"Marriage is a sacred institution in our culture. It’s a tradition of partnership, of trust, and of dependence on one another to navigate the sometimes stormy seas of life. People have said that marriage requires things like work, like commitment, and like sacrifice - and certainly all of those things are true. No matter what it looks like in the end, however, a healthy marriage always needs a solid foundation.

It begins with love, to be sure, but what does that mean? People say they love chocolate, is that the same as the love we need for a solid marriage? Of course not. The love we need comes from being willing to make those sacrifices. The love we need comes from being committed to working through everything together, and maintaining open communications - even when it is difficult. The love we need makes the work it takes to maintain it all worth it.

On top of that foundation of love - a mixture of work, sacrifice, and commitment - we can build things like trust and intimacy, and all of the beautiful things that make a marriage worthwhile."

A beat.

"Kakashi Hatake and Iruka Umino, are you ready to proclaim that foundation of love for one another in the sight of the heavens and these witnesses?"

My fiancé nods and I follow suit.

"Kakashi Hatake, do you take Iruka Umino to be your lawfully wedded husband? Will you honor and cherish him; love, trust, and commit to him, through joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life may throw at you both, until death do you part?"

Almost immediately he says those words, "I do."

I do.

I do.

"Iruka Umino, do you take Kakashi Hatake to be your lawfully wedded husband? Will you honor and cherish him; love, trust, and commit to him, through joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life may throw at you both, until death do you part?"

"I do."

I said it.

I do.

I do.

"At this time, Kakashi Hatake and Iruka Umino will exchange rings. The wedding ring is symbol of binding. A symbol of attachment and of belonging, not of possession, but of partnership."

He speaks. My fiancé speaks. "Iruka, I vow to love and cherish you for the rest of my life. I will commit myself to you in sickness and in health for the rest of my life, whenever you need me, to be honest, to remain faithful to you and only you as long as we may live, and stand by your side no matter the situation, no matter what may happen to either of us, no matter what may try to push us apart. I promise to protect you as well as I may be able to anytime you may need it."

He really did just add to the vows we prepared, huh?

I pause for a beat before speaking. "I vow to love and cherish you for the rest of my life. I will commit myself to you in sickness and in health for the rest of my life, whenever you need me, to be honest, to remain faithful to you and only you as long as we may live, and stand by your side no matter the situation, no matter what may happen to either of us, no matter what may try to push us apart."

We exchange the rings. Two simple silver bands with a small diamond in each band.

"Kakashi Hatake and Iruka Hatake, having proclaimed your love and commitment to one another in the eyes of these loved ones, and with the power vest in me, I am so happy to pronounce you husband and husband! You may kiss!"

My husband speak, "Can you look away? So you don't see my face of course."

The officiant kind of stares at us before looking towards a very happy looking Guy.

The second the officiant not looking he has my waist and hand, has spun us around as for his hair to face the audience, pulled his mask down, and kissed me.

Were his lips really always this pleasant on mine? I don't have time to ponder that question before he removes his lips, pulls up his mask, and got us back to standing properly.

"Okay, you can look now." My husband says cheerfully.

The officiant looks back at us. "Thank you all so much for joining us in this special moment in Kakashi Hatake’s and Iruka Hatake’s life! Kakashi and Iruka have asked that you join them for a reception at (insert bar name because I'm lazy and y'all can deal with it). Thank you all once again."

I'm finally marrying him. This may just be the best day of my life. No, this is the best day of my life.

I think that last part was necessary.

He pause for a beat before speaking.

The officiant kind of stares at us for a second before looking towards a very happy looking Guy.

The second the officiant not looking I had my husband's waist in my arm and hand in my hand, has spun us around as for the back of my head to face the audience, pulled my mask down, and kissed him.

Soon after start the kiss I removed my lips, pulled up my mask, and got us back to standing properly.

"Okay, you can look now." I say cheerfully. That kiss was absolutely amazing. Did he put chapstick on or something because I swear I tasted cherries.

The officiant looks back at us. "Thank you all so much for joining us in this special moment in Kakashi Hatake’s and Iruka Hatake’s life! Kakashi and Iruka have asked that you join them for a reception at (insert bar name because I'm still lazy and yet again, y'all can deal with it). Thank you all once again."

Reception

They'd gotten the legal stuff out of the way earlier so now by law Iruka Umino was now Iruka Hatake. He'd opted to take Kakashi's last name. The paperwork was a bit boring but they were enjoying themselves now.

Yeah, they were definitely enjoying themselves now at the reception. This was their dance right now. All eyes were on them as they danced Rumba style. Slow and sensual.

Iruka and Kakashi Hatake. Oh, the pair they made together. As the first dance ended it was now time for the welcome speech before dinner which passed with plenty of small talk and congratulations before the cake cutting. Kakashi and Iruka cut the cake together and fed each other some of the cake. There may or may not have been a bit of frosting on Iruka's face afterwards but that's okay because even if no one saw it, there was a lot of frosting stuck between Kakashi's face and mask.

Some time passed dancing before it was time for them to throw the bouquet.

"So who's throwing the bouquet, honey?" Iruka asks.

Kakashi whispers something in Iruka's ear to which he nods. They grab the bouquet and Iruka throws it off into the crowd.

"I caught it." Hinata mumbles.

"Huh? What'd you say, Hinata?" Someone asks.

"She caught it!" Naruto exclaims.

"I guarantee you they're getting engaged with the next year." Iruka whispers to Kakashi.

"I agree." Kakashi whispers back.

The rest of the reception passes and the send off finally takes place.

"I'm ready to get to bed Kakashi."

"Me too my little tatertot."

"Seriously, why do you use a new one each time?"

"It's fun."

Iruka sighs, "I guess."

Notes:

Papa Roach is my motivation and the black quote parts are the traditional things an Officiant would say. That means, I had to do research about these things. Also, I finally finished it! My back hurts and I got this out only a day after chapter 2. I'm making up for my mistakes of making y'all wait for number 2. :3

Notes:

Will post second chapter for wedding and wedding preparations eventually. Keyword, eventually, give it a good two weeks or so. We'll get there when we get there.
