Chapter Text
The cabin was small. Dustin got familiar with it, as he was allowed his monthly visits with Jane as he started dating her in secret. No one knew. Not Mike, not Lucas, not Will. Not even Hopper, because if he did, they wouldn’t be there. So, as they sat at the table, waiting for someone to break the silence and say the first word, they didn’t look at eachother. Jane and Dustin were looking at the floor, like they were hoping that the ex-police officer who managed to survive a russian prison camp for nearly a year wouldn’t be able to see him. But Hopper never stopped, he stared at him since the moment. Actually even before that as Dustin had to walk infront of the man so he wouldn’t even be near his daughter. It was going down. Now.
“So.. Henderson. I catch you kissing El. I catch you doing it in her training session. I catch you while you’re outside of your monthly visit, and I know just after two months of visiting her, you haven’t fallen in love with her. So do you wanna’ tell me or will I have to cancel the visits.” He demanded, his voice growing in rage, anger and fury.
He looked at Jane, who was still looking down at her feet, but Hopper noticed this, slamming the table which caused the two to look at him.
“Hey! Don’t look at her. Look at me. What is going on.” He commanded the boy to reveal the truth.
“I.. about.. two-ish months ago, Jane snook over to my house.. U-Using the tunnels! And.. we talked in my basement, so not even my mom saw her.. and well, we sort of.. liked that, so she snook over the next night, and well liked it again, but considering school was the next day.. we would come up with a plan. That’s why I came to your house to visit her before our monthly visits so we could atleast do it some where safe.. and..” He panicked, rambling on, not wanting to leave any detail out so Hopper couldn’t pick it apart and supply his rage.
“You came to our house so you wouldn’t have to drag her out of here?” He asked, his voice doubtful, but keeping his tone so he knew Dustin couldn’t lie.
“Y-Yes, sir!” Dustin eagerly nodded, telling the truth so Hopper wouldn’t know he was messing around.
He paused. The room growing quiet. It was silent. A silence that Dustin wasn’t expecting. Then Hopper interrupted that silence after a few seconds of it arriving.
“Good.” He nodded, his voice growing more quiet, with rage leaving but suspicion remained. “Continue.”
“O-Okay.. well, then after we organised it, I went home and found a note in my pockets saying to look under the basement couch.. and I found a walkie-talkie, and when I used it, Jane was on the other end..” Dustin carried on, before being interrupted by Hopper again, but he wasn’t talking to him.
“Hang on, where did you get a walkie-talkie from?” Hopper asked Jane, who looked up from her feet again at him.
“I robbed one from the station.” She confessed to her father.
“We needed that!” His voice rose once again.
“It was not being used!” Her voice raised back against his. Then after this, quietness came and gone once again, with Hopper sighing to break it.
“Continue..” He asked Dustin once again. Now, Dustin wasn’t as panicked but, still felt the need to be as honest as he can be to Hopper.
“So.. after two months.. I asked Jane if she would be able to hangout.. but she cancelled.. then, not long after, and she shouted for me in my house, and as I went to go to the basement in the rain.. she stood outside.. and we kissed.. later that night, we decided we were gonna be a couple. A-Any questions?” He asked and confessed to a Hopper who was taking in all this information.
“And you remember all of this?” Hopper asked, doubting Dustin.
“Y-Yes sir.” Dustin nodded, being as clear as he could be.
“You remember all of this?” Jane looked at Dustin, smiling at him while she lightly stroked her hand. He smiled back, lightly nodding.
“And.. what do your other friends think? What does Mike think?” He asked, wondering on the output of not just the two’s friends, but also Jane’s ex. And one of Dustin’s best friends.
“Well, right now they-“ Dustin responded to Hopper before being interrupted.
“They won’t know. He won’t know.” Jane stated, her voice colder and her eyes beaming into Hopper.
The room returned to the silence they were all familiar with. Before Dustin broke the silence this time.
“So… am I still allowed to see Jane?” He asked, looking at his feet doing his best ‘cute’ face, but how the hell can a 16 year old boy do a ‘cute’ face?
“Right.. I’m not sure what will happen… but I’m gonna tell you what the hell won’t be happening. First off, no more sneaking-outs. Second, no more radio. At all. Any average shmuck can listen in, so Kay and her men will easily find us.. only way you speak to her is getting to speak to me through codewords..” Hopper told the two teens, as they listened in. It all sucked, but atleast Hopper knew now.
“And Dustin can come to my training when he’s free.” Jane added on, chiming in.
“And I’d agree to it because?” He questioned her, an anger coming in as he wasn’t used to her talking to him like this.
“If Joyce can come, he can come.” Jane tilted her head, looking at him like she was telling him off.
“She comes because…” Hopper said, trailing off with his speech.
“Hop.” Jane looked at Hopper, trying to assert herself more.
“Fine.. only when I say though.” He begrudgingly agreed, mumbling.
Jane smiled with her eyes, looking at Dustin. It was a pretty smile.
“Right well.. the sun will be setting soon so.. you should be get going now..” Hopper looked into space, his voice back to his usual monotone-ness.
“I understand..” Dustin said, standing up, wobbly from his injuries from earlier on today. Jane helped him to the door, seeming sad that he had to go, but later, he got to the exit of the cabin.
“I’ll see you next time?” He turned to her, looking at her with a smile.
“Of course.” She smiled back, grabbing his bruised hand, lightly kissing it. It stung. But it was better than any cast could solve his injuries.
The door slowly shut behind him, and he began to walk over to the hatch that would lead him back to the tunnels. The brown, orange leaves slowly falling, to the point where the cold bitterness of winter would be arriving. He liked this weather. Better than summer. The one thing he loved about the winter was that it didn’t matter how cold he would get, as he could always put on something else, unlike Summer.
However, as he began to wobble off, the house door opened again. He turned around to see who it was. It was Hopper.
“Hey kid.. considering you look like a punching bag who’s seen greater days.. and no one can take you home other than yourself, do you wanna.. crash here?” Hopper begrudgingly asked, mumbling once again, seeming like someone asked him to do it.
“Are you sure?” Dustin asked, smirking to see if Hopper was being honest.
“Yeah… but no sleeping in the same room as Jane. You’re lucky you won’t be sleeping with me.” He stated, his voice going back to his usual sharp and harshness.
“That would be nice.. thank you.” Dustin lightly smiled, nodding his head.
“Just make sure your old woman knows first.” Hopper told Dustin.
Oh fuck. Mom.

“So, how did it go?” Jane asked Dustin, concerned on what the result was.
“Well, first she’s pissed as she hadn’t seen me all day… but, I told her I was staying at Lucas’ house so she feels better.” Dustin confessed, sighing.
“So you can stay?” She asked, her voice growing with excitement.
“Yup.” He nodded, telling her to a very excited response.
“This will be amazing! We can stay up all night and watch Miami Vice and-“ She smiled, going to tell him an ultimate plan.
“Woah, woah, woah. You two have had enough of eachother today, so how about we call it an early night?” Hopped rhetorically asked the two, to which Jane didn’t seem the happiest about.
“Hop! You said-“ She begged before being interrupted by him.
“I said he could stay.. Jane, you have a long day of training ahead tomorrow so you get an early night.. you too, son.” Hopper told the two teens. Well, atleast he could crash.
Jane walked to her room. Dustin got comfy on the couch. Her door shut, and the lights turned off. As the rest of the cabin went quiet and practically turned off, Dustin was wide awake. He laid there, in thought, looking up at the ceiling.
Wow. I have a girlfriend, and it’s Jane Hopper.
Suddenly, a floor board crept. Dustin darted upwards. He saw Jane. She was wearing a pair of shorts and his old shirt that fit her, she looked gorgeous. He couldn’t say anything as he could wake Hopper up, so he called her over. When she came over, he looked so amazed. God, she was beautiful. He smiled. She smiled. Then, she pushed him back on the couch, and put him into a kiss, he accepted her warm mouth, only their lips touching. It was nice, it was passionate. It was lovely. When they were done, it was pure darkness, but she didn’t get up. She stayed laid ontop; they were cuddling. As boyfriend and girlfriend, and they loved it.
Dustin slowly began to drift off to sleep, knowing that life was starting to get a little better now.
