Chapter 1: A new start

Chapter Text

Momiji blinked wildly at her notebook, rubbed her eyes, closed and opened it again and again

7…

7…FUCKING. CASES. ONLY FOR THE PAST MONTH.

This country is filled with crimes and trouble everywhere. Thefts, murders, mysterious deaths, drug trafficking, kidnappings, blackmailing, bombings,….

And yet she had only solved 7 cases for the past 31 days??

Arguably, the number would have been higher if she had accepted the missing pets cases, but what kind of self-respecting detective would take such minor cases to include it in their overall achievements?

Looking back, just 2 years ago, her work was on top. She balanced solving cases and schoolwork with no problems. She stood at the top of her class and provided outstanding help for the police force, the average number of cases that she solved per month was an average of 32 cases.

However all of that changed the day she learned that Heji was a detective.

She was thrilled of course, her future husband was also a detective just like her.

When Heji complained about not having enough cases to solve, she ordered Iori to send locations of unsolved cases to him instead of reporting those to her, and perhaps that’s where it all went downhill. It started with handing a few over to him, to solving less cases to let Heji shine, and that all lead to her now only solving 7 cases per month.

Is this where the formiable detective is now? Willing to dim her glow just to let a guy shine? Other crushes either became true or emotionally devastate them, hers indirectly halted her detective work. She was helping police solve cases back when the “great” detective of the West was following his father around the crime scene, back when the detective of the East was still playing pretend detective, even before the british detective had developed an obsession with the phantom thief.

Maybe she should start solving cases again and stop sending case infos to Heji.

Maybe she should just stop obsessively following Heji everywhere and instead start finding detective rivals or buying finally more notebooks for her work.

Maybe...she should compete against Heji for the famous title "Detective of the West".

For a brief moment, her crush on Heji seemed to falter and all she could see was the feeling of sastification after solving  cases, did Heji really ever make her that happy, or had the promise of romance blinded her from what truly made her happy?

Momiji stood up from her chair and walked towards the white board in her room, noting down the things that she would need to do to.

You would need advice from another highschool detective right?

She picked up her phone, by social norm,it would be considered impolite to call someone at this hour, but perhaps close friends would forgive each other for that?

Momiji clicked on the contact labled “Sherlock Homes”.
