Ellen brought a big cardboard box from the secretary’s desk. “I will now give you your badges. Please come front and collect them when your name is called. Betty Brant?”
She gave Betty the plastic card and with that everyone slowly received their badge.
Everyone, but Peter.
He got out his own badge which he hid under his shirt, and acted like nothing happened.
Luckily, Flash was too busy admiring his own badge to notice anything.
“Now everyone please step through this gate. FRIDAY will sort you into her system and shout your name out. This is standard procedure for the heart of Stark Industries .
A line quickly formed, everyone wanting to step through the mechanical gate. Flash pushed himself through the excited kids and stepped through the gate first.
“Eugene Thompson, visitor-level one” the familiar voice of FRIDAY announced Flash with a slight coldness to her voice.
“Betty Brant, visitor-level one.” Everyone made their way through the gates—ecstatic that the AI of Iron man knew their name.
Peter tried his best to go unnoticed, so went to the very last of the line—but it had to be his turn eventually.
Wincing, he stepped through the gate and braced for the worst. “Peter ‘Underoos’ Parker, classified-level 11”
It was louder than Peter anticipated and his classmates heads whipped around.
Eyes were fixated on Peter, awkwardly standing behind the gate like he committed a crime.
Luckily, the tour guide’s jaw snapped up quickly. “A-alright class, let’s move on”
Ellen broke into a fast stride. Even Flash averted his gaze, he was smart enough to not say anything right in front of her.
Everyone shuffled to keep up with Ellen, who was spitting out facts left and right; about SI, the tower itself, Tony stark and of course several accomplished SI achieved over time.
Peter, however couldn’t listen. He recognized the way they were going—The avengers museum.
There had recently been an addition. A small but important addition.
The first spider-man suit—goggles and all. Along with a small plaque with some facts about spider-man.
They were ridiculous but Peter had allowed it. (Not that he could’ve stopped it but he liked to think so)
“This, everybody, is the avengers museum. A lot can be found in here. From old suits to nonfunctional alien residue—collected at the battle of New York”
Ellen’s voice stayed professional even at the loud excitement of the class.
“You can all take a couple of minutes to check things out.”
Groups were formed and ‘ooh’s’ and ‘aah’s’ filled the room. Ned pulled Peter to the spider-man exhibit.
He was grinning as he read the plaque aloud.
“Spider-man’s first suit was made completely by himself—like yes we can see that” Ned chuckled and Peter glared at him as he added the comment.
“He is known for helping the little guy—but saving lives is still something he does regularly. When he is startled, spider-man will jump onto the ceiling and stays there until he calms down”
“Tony insisted on putting that up” Peter tried to defend himself when Ned started snickering again.
Suddenly they were tackled by Flash and his group. “Hey Puny Parker! What are you doing here man? Wish you could be him don’t you?”
Flash nodded to the display. “Give it up. As is he would ever even notice you.”
Ned opened his mouth to retaliate, but Peter cut him off. “Let’s just go”
At that moment Ellen called them all together and they moved on.
They marched into the large elevator which was just big enough to transport the class. “FRIDAY, take us to the R&D labs please”
A button in the elevator lit up and Peter perked up a little. He wasn’t particularly often there, but sometimes he would pop in and help the interns.
The doors opened and Ellen swiped her ID so they could enter the labs.
“Hey Peter!”
And his cover was blown. Peters gaze skimmed over the interns until he found the culprit.
“Hey André” he answered with a lot less enthusiasm. “How do you know the interns?” Ellen finally asked.
“O-oh I kinda have an internship here” he admitted, knowing that wasn’t the whole truth. Ellen frowned because why would an intern have such a high level? But she was interrupted.
“Are you still going on about that Penis Parker? How much did you have to pay these people to pretend they know you? This is getting really pathetic Penis.”
Peter said nothing. And he didn’t have to. A person strode through the doors.
A crisp, tailored suit. Tinted glasses. A demanding stride.
Tony stark in the R&D labs. No one dared to move.
He walked closer, took his sunglasses off and leveled his stare on Flash. “What did you just call my kid?”
Flash’s mouth opened but no sound came out.
“Peter has an internship with me personally. We do not tolerate bullying at SI. And especially not my kid.”
When Flash still didn’t say anything, Tony continued.
“Right” he quipped. “Tour’s over. Go home.” He dismissed the class with a wave of his hand.
“Oh- and Eugene? You’re permanently banned from ever working at SI or attending colleges sponsored by Stark industries. A college like MIT” And that hit hard.
Ellen quickly ushered the class out and Peter tried to go with them, but Tony stopped him.
“Where do you think you’re going? I need your help with something at the lab” Peter smiled and followed him up to their lab.
“Thanks Dad.”
“Of course kid.”
