Chapter Text
He sits on his bed, desperately trying to think.
Avery's only reassuring thought is that neither him or Derek actually know what happens to someone with a "dirty" mind. after they merge
God, Avery should've never moved away from home. He should've never taken a leap to New York. The city is so big it hurts. Why him? Why any of this? Why did he have to find that laptop?
Without it, though, he would've never met d3rlord3. His heart breaks more at the thought.
Without Avery, would Derek have even had to do what he did? Avery sits up in his bed. Without him there wouldn't have been anyone to trade places with.
Is this Avery's fault?
He was spiralling and he didn't know what to do. He was pacing, taking small laps around his messy apartment bedroom.
Avery can't think. He pauses and manages to shove the thought out of his head. It isn't helping. This is when Avery realizes he's crying. Tears stream down his face. Avery has plenty of friends, people he's know for months, but Avery doesn't think he's ever cared about them this much.
He needs a plan. He needs a delusion to cling onto. Avery glances over to his computer, Minecraft is still open, his crosshair trained on d3rlord3's head. Neither of them knew if Derek was going to die in that moment. That's enough for Avery.
He scrambles to his gaming chair and sits. After the spell was said, the person who voiced it would merge with the king in yellow. This was meant to be done with a clean mind. The king would eat away at the person until only it was left. Derek's mind wasn't clean, though. Derek's incomprehensible knowledge was forced into his mind, but at the end of the day, it was never his. It was like its own being living inside of his head.
Maybe instead of taking Derek down with king, it simply took down the truths of the world, dying with them. If the knowledge is even it's seperate being, there's still a chance Derek would die, freeing the knowledge.
This is stupid.
Avery almost laughs at the idea. It's so poorly stitched together. An almagamation of hope, but hope nonetheless. Don't ask Avery to explain the logic behind his idea, he has none.
So Avery latches onto this idea. This idea that Derek could be alive. He needs a plan, Avery sighs. He was never very good with plans.
He opens a new browser tab, blocking d3rlord3's face. Avery flinches slightly at the loss. What does he need to find out? He supposes he needs Derek's address. How is that even possible. Avery lists everything he can. Derek must live at least somewhat near him, how else would he find that laptop? What else does he have from Derek. He never left the world, so there's that. Maybe he can find something from his ping?...
Avery feels so helpless and so stupid. He's never done anything like this before.
What else?
He pushes his palm into the side of his head. Think. He has that Google drive from him. Avery knows he can't do anything with that. His coding professor, though, could.
He opens up outlook and tries to manifest a way to convince him to find someone's address.
"Hello! Sorry for the late email on a holiday. I've been really trying to get more into coding and hacking and I was curious if there's any way to get someone's address out of simply a Google drive? Thanks."
Avery sends. He taps his foot. His laptop pings.
1 new email.
"Hello, Avery! I'm happy to see your interest! I'm very sure why you need an address, though. Care to explain."
Avery groans.
"It's for a project I'm doing with a friend. Are you not good enough to do it? I can ask someone else."
He sends. Immediate notification.
"I never said I couldn't. I'll do it. Just please be careful, Avery."
He was very pleased with himself. He knew his way around his professors. Avery sends his last email of the night. The Google drive link, both of them.
