Chapter 4: Media

Chapter Text

Shane Hollander

@ShaneHollander24Official

I have spent a large part of my career learning how to keep certain parts of myself separate. Not because I wanted to, but because I knew that there were limits to what was acceptable in this league if you wanted to be treated respectfully, if you wanted to be safe, and if you wanted to keep your place on a roster.

This is not necessarily out of the blue while no one knew of my marriage, I recently made my sexuality clear to my teammate. This unfortunately cements my beliefs.

I experienced treatment, comments, and decisions that made it very clear to me that being openly honest about who I am would come with consequences. It was made to feel at times like I had to choose between my husband and my career. I thought that was what professionalism required.

This is not something I say lightly, and it is not something I am interested in continuing talking about. But I also cannot pretend anymore that it did not affect me, or that it did not cause me problems.

That being said, I think that honesty is the way I want to go.

I am married to Ilya Rozanov. He is my husband. He is my best friend. He is the person who has stood beside me through every version of my career—the best seasons, the injuries, and every moment where I felt like I had to shrink myself to fit into what was expected of me.

Loving him has never been complicated. What was complicated was everything around us that made it feel like it had to be hidden.

I love him more than anything. And I am no longer willing to treat that as something that needs to be hidden or justified.

We are two people who love each other and have built a life together in private for long enough.

Going forward, my focus remains on hockey and my team, but I will not be hiding the love of my life anymore. I am asking for respect—for my marriage, for my husband.

Ilya Rozanov

@TheIlyaRozonov81

A video from my teenage years was shared without my permission. That moment was private, and it was never meant to be public.

But I am not ashamed of who I am, and I am not ashamed of who I love.

Shane and I have been married for over a year. Together much longer. He is my husband, my lover, and the best part of my life. I wish we had been able to share that on our own terms, but I want everyone to know there is no Ilya without Shane and there never has been.

I will not apologize for the video or for who I marry. I will only ask for respect as we move forward together.

The Centaurs

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

The Centaur proudly supports our Captain Ilya Rozonov following today’s announcement alongside his husband, Shane Hollander.

We like to address concerns about the video release of our captain. We ask that this video not continue to be spread. It's always unfortunate to have your privacy violated and we wish nothing but happiness and peace to our Captain and Hollander.

It takes courage to be yourself, and we are honored to stand beside players who help make our game more inclusive for future generations.

Ilya Rozonov has represented this organization with integrity, professionalism, and heart, and today changes none of that.

Congratulations to them both on this exciting new development.

The Voyagers

@MotrealVoyagers

Recently our organization was made aware of the personal announcement involving Shane Hollander Captain of the Voyagers earlier today.

While we respect the privacy of all players and staff regarding matters unrelated to hockey operations, our focus remains on the current season and the continued success of our team on and off the ice.

We will have no further comment at this time.

The Raiders

@BostonRaiders

Everyone at the Raiders would like to congratulate our former Captain Ilya Rozonov and Montreal's Shane Hollander on their marriage and public announcement today.

Rozonov was an important part of our organization during his time here, and we are proud to support him as he continues both his professional and personal journey.

Hockey is at its best when everyone feels safe, respected, and welcomed in our sport.

We wish them both nothing but happiness moving forward.

NHL

@TheOfficialNHL

The NHL is aware of today’s public announcement involving two current players. As an organization, we remain committed to maintaining a professional environment focused on the integrity of the game and the responsibilities of our athletes to their teams, fans, and league obligations. We ask that media and fans respect the privacy of those involved as attention returns to the sport itself.

Cliff Marlow

@MarlowTheOriginal

Congratulations to my little bro. I always worried you didn’t have enough people in your corner. I'm glad to know there has been someone else there this whole time. I better be invited to dinner soon since I wasn’t invited to the wedding.

Hayden Pikes

@JackiesHusband

I've never been the best with words, but I hope you know I'm your best friend and you always have my support. Jackie said come by for dinner. I guess you can bring Rozonov.

Luca Haas

@LucaRozonov

I'm so excited. I may have to actually let Cap adopt me if it means Shane Hollander, is my other dad.

Wyatt Hayes

@GoalieHayes27

There are very few people I respect more than Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozonov.

What they shared today took courage, whether people want to admit that or not.

We're proud of you, Cap.

Zane Boodram

@TheBood92

A lot of people are going to have opinions today. Mine is simple: if you come for them, you come through all of us first.

Roz is the best Captain ever and while I don't know Hollander personally his reputation precedes him.  They deserve the same respect, support, and happiness as anybody else in this league.

Couldn’t be prouder to stand beside them.

JJ Boiziau

@Jean-Jacques

I’m really happy for them. Truly.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little blindside. We spent years on planes, road trips, and in locker rooms together, and somehow, I still got blindsided by a marriage announcement like everybody else.

But you're one of my best friends. I love you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad you're happy. Even if you picked the worst possible choice.

Rose Landry

@RoseLandry

Couldn’t be happier for these two. Seeing them finally able to share this part of their lives openly is something really special.

Proud of both of you always. Love you boys.

Svetlana Vetrova

@Svetlana

Надеюсь, Джейн понимает, как ему повезло.

Твоя мама бы гордилась тобой, Илюшка.

The Centaurs

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

“We told you something big was coming…

Welcome to the Centaurs, Shane Hollander. 👀🔥 “

Maybe another chapter of social media reply's but I consider this done. This is a series I have a few more planned. Hope you enjoyed.
