Chapter Text

Author's Notes:

Hi everyone!

Bad news…

Remember when I said:

"Exam season has ended and summer has started, so y'all can expect more frequent updates now that I have more free time!" Yippee!

Yeah... that aged poorly.

Turns out I've been signed up for a summer program without my knowledge, so updates might not be as frequent as I hoped :(

Thank you all for reading, and here are some responses to recent reviews!

Guest: Yeah, I forgot about that ngl. Thanks for reminding me!

Rosymalik: Thanks for the compliment! You really found me on all three of the sites I post on, huh? Hope you enjoy this week's chapter as well!

Adelalovesmadara: Thanks for commenting! I love Gojo too.

Afro1Ninja8: I will try my best to stay consistent.

Thunrady: Keen observations. Theoretically, with perfect control and the ability to literally see energy, he could possibly enter Sage Mode without being taught it or having a summoning contract. The physical trait part is probably true, but I love the Sage Mode look too much, and the red cloak has to be the best fit Naruto has ever had. And yeah, with all the abilities he will possess, people would definitely consider him the second coming of the Sage.

Johndoeismiasma: He will, but I want to focus on the Six Eyes for now, since too many things at once might overwhelm him. Thank you for reading!

Uzukage-3710: I'm not even gonna lie, my friend's younger sibling was watching Peppa Pig when I went to their house, so I somehow stumbled onto the idea. Naruto is gonna be a bit sad leaving the Wave after his celebrity treatment.

Night-mare7420: Without the ramen analogy, Gojo would have lowkey lost his mind trying to teach Naruto. Don't worry, I would never abandon y'all… right?

XBG: Thanks for reading.

Deadpoolnumbuh11: I bet Minato would have wondered how the Uzumaki were so good at the sealing arts after spending years with Kushina and Naruto.

Slick21: I kinda forgot about that… And yeah, the opposite will apply here: negative chakra will be blue and positive will be red. Thank you for reading and pointing this out!

SunZap12: Yeah, Naruto having eyes that have the best aspects of both the Sharingan and Byakugan and then dialing it up is gonna make them so pissed—especially Sasuke. Like, imagine you jumped in front of your homeboy to save him after awakening your clan's legendary dojutsu, and the person you saved gets eyes that are way better than yours and out-scales you instantly. I would be too pissed ngl; asking for a rerun and shit. Orochimaru is gonna be drooling after seeing all their potential, especially Naruto's. Space-time techniques are OP in Naruto; I wouldn't be surprised if he forgot about Sasuke entirely.

Dragonkeeper10: Quite the experience for Naruto. He's gonna be a little sad when leaving, glad you enjoyed the chapter!

Alright then, let's head into the chapter!

Chapter 6: Held Hostage (By Fashion)

Kakashi let out an exhausted sigh as he walked across the newly reinforced bridge. The construction site was far louder than usual today; with Gato out of the picture, dozens of local workers had come out of the woodwork to reclaim their town. Sakura was quietly chatting with a few villagers nearby, though she still looked completely drained from the week's stress.

Deciding to leave Sakura to handle the minor bridge logistics, Kakashi headed back toward the village. He needed to check on his most unpredictable student.

Before he could even step off the main path, a loud, booming voice hailed him.

"Ah! Hatake-san!"

Kakashi paused, turning to see Tazuna jogging toward him. The old bridge builder had a canvas measuring tape draped over his shoulder, a group of anxious-looking tailors fluttering right behind him like a flock of panicked birds.

"Tazuna-san," Kakashi greeted, giving his signature eye-smile. "Is something wrong with the architecture?"

"No, no, the bridge is fine!" Tazuna waved a calloused hand dismissively. "We have a much more pressing matter! The village council is finalizing the celebratory feast for tomorrow night, and the tailors need Naruto's exact measurements for his custom ceremonial haori. But the brat is nowhere to be found!"

Kakashi's eye slightly narrowed. "He isn't at the house? I left him there to rest a few hours ago."

"The girl said the room was completely empty when she checked," one of the tailors piped up anxiously, wringing her hands. "We need to find him soon if we're going to have the fabric dyed and cut by sunrise!"

"I see," Kakashi muttered, pulling a hand out of his pocket. "Don't worry. I'll go locate our guest of honor."

Forming a quick, one-handed Tiger seal, Kakashi focused his senses. He didn't need to summon Pakkun for a job this close to town. He caught the faint, distinct scent of Naruto—ozone, sweat, and a strange, sharp metallic tang that definitely hadn't been there before—and traced it directly toward the dense forest surrounding the outskirts.

Stepping beneath the heavy green canopy, the atmosphere completely shifted. Kakashi moved silently through the trees, expecting to find Naruto practicing his tree-walking or throwing kunai to burn off his restless energy.

Instead, he stumbled into a literal warzone.

Kakashi stopped dead on a thick oak branch. Cut deep into the earth below was a massive, ragged crater that looked as if a miniature meteor had slammed into the dirt.

Trees nearby were splintered like toothpicks, their leaves completely stripped away by some violent, localized force.

'What happened here?' Kakashi's mind instantly went into combat mode. 'An ambush? Did Gato have a hidden rogue ninja waiting in reserve?'

He picked up his pace, leaping from branch to branch to track the path of destruction. As he went deeper, the craters changed. They got smaller, then suddenly erupted into a massive, jagged trench, before rapidly shrinking again. It looked like someone was violently struggling to control the output of an incredibly unstable jutsu.

By the time Kakashi neared the epicenter of the scent, the chaos stopped. The craters weren't jagged or explosive anymore. Instead, the ground was pockmarked with neat, perfectly consistent holes exactly the size of a baseball.

His heart hammered against his ribs. Assuming Naruto was in the middle of a deadly fight, Kakashi dropped from the trees, a kunai instantly sliding into his hand.

He burst through the brush, ready to intercept an enemy—only to stop.

There was no enemy. It was just Naruto.

The boy was slouched casually against the trunk of a massive oak tree, his old Academy goggles pulled tightly over his eyes. He was drenched in sweat and covered in mud, but he looked completely unbothered, tilting his head back to take a long, messy gulp from a water bottle.

Sensing a presence, Naruto's posture didn't stiffen. If anything, it loosened. He lowered the water bottle and gave a bright grin.

"Yo," Kakashi said, letting his kunai slip back into its pouch as he assumed his usual, low-energy slouch.

"Hey, Kakashi-sensei! You're back!" Naruto chirped, wiping his chin with his sleeve.

"Yeah," Kakashi said, looking around at the surreal checkerboard of baseball-sized voids in the dirt. "It seems like you were having some fun out here."

Kakashi walked over, kneeling down next to the nearest hole. He ran a finger along the inside edge. It wasn't burned like Fire Style, and the dirt wasn't displaced or piled along the rim like a paper bomb explosion. The earth was simply... gone.

"What exactly are you practicing, Naruto?" Kakashi asked carefully, his Sharingan spinning beneath his tilted headband as it tracked the bizarre, spatial residue still vibrating in the air.

Naruto laughed, rubbing the back of his now-paler blonde head. "Oh, you know, just working on my control! It took a while, but I think I finally got the hang of it. I can do it consistently now, but Gojo-sen—I mean, I still have to work on making it even smaller!"

'Nice save, idiot,' Gojo's voice immediately drawled in Naruto's head, laced with lazy amusement.

Naruto's eyebrow twitched behind his goggles, but he kept his smile plastered on.

Kakashi definitely caught the slip of the tongue, but chose to focus on the immediate display of power instead. "Alright. Can you show me, Naruto?"

"Of course, sensei!" Naruto stood up, shaking out his arms.

He didn't weave a single hand-sign. He simply lifted a single index finger, pointing it toward a thick, rotting log a few yards away.

Kakashi focused his Sharingan, tracking the sudden surge of energy to the boy's fingertip.

For the briefest instant, Kakashi thought Naruto was forming an incomplete Rasengan. The compressed rotation was familiar. Minato-sensei's chakra had felt similar during the early stages of the technique.

Then the energy abruptly collapsed inward. Space distorted. Kakashi's Sharingan widened in genuine shock.

No. This wasn't rotational force. The chakra wasn't drilling through matter.

Matter itself was being displaced by a vacuum.

"Technique Lapse: Blue," Naruto whispered.

For a split second, the air around Naruto's fingertip twisted. A tiny, pressurized marble of brilliant blue light manifested in reality.

Zip.

A sharp, high-pitched vacuum sound echoed in the clearing. The blue marble shot forward instantly. When it struck the log, there was no loud explosion. The negative space simply folded inward, leaving a perfectly spherical hole clean through the center of the heavy wood.

Kakashi's visible eye widened. "Wow... that is pretty cool." He straightened up, his tactical mind racing through every documented Jutsu in the Hidden Leaf archives. "Naruto... is that space-time manipulation?"

Hearing the technical term, Naruto's face lit up with excitement. He started bouncing on the balls of his feet.

"Yes! Exactly! It forces the space to become negative, and then the world tries to fix it by pulling everything together! It's called Blue!" He leaned forward eagerly, his goggles reflecting Kakashi's masked face.

'Wow,' Gojo snorted inside his head. 'You copied my explanation word-for-word. I'm honored.'

"Hey, hey, sensei, do you have any tips for it?" Naruto continued, completely ignoring the voice inside his head.

Kakashi stared at his student, a wave of profound, heavy nostalgia hitting him like a physical blow. He offered a closed, U-shaped eye-smile.

"I don't have any specific tips for that technique, Naruto," Kakashi said softly. "But... I knew someone who used space-time manipulation. He was incredibly proficient at it."

Naruto blinked, his excitement shifting into curiosity. "Really? Who?"

"A story for another time," Kakashi replied smoothly, placing a hand on Naruto's head and ruffling his frosted hair.

"Ehh? Boo! You're no fun, Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto groaned, slumping his shoulders.

Kakashi's visible eye drifted toward Naruto's noticeably lighter hair. He stared at it for a long, quiet moment.

"…Hm."

Naruto blinked. "What?"

Kakashi gave a lazy, teasing eye-smile. "I'm flattered you admire my appearance enough to start copying it."

Naruto stared at him, blankly processing the words. "…What are you even talking about?"

Kakashi gestured vaguely toward Naruto's pale hair and the goggles covering his eyes. "The silver hair. The covered eyes. Very fashionable, Naruto. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Naruto's face immediately contorted into a scowl. "THIS ISN'T ON PURPOSE!"

'Oh, no no no,' Gojo's voice practically vibrated with dramatic rage in Naruto's mindscape. 'The masked buffoon thinks you want to look like him! Don't let him take MY credit, kid! Tell him his fit is mid!'

'Stay quiet idiot,' the Kyuubi said, being awakened from his slumber. 'I am trying to rest.'

Naruto nearly choked on his own breath. "WHY ARE YOU OFFENDED?!" he yelled aloud.

Kakashi blinked once. "…I didn't say anything."

"NOT YOU!" Naruto snapped, his fist clenching as he desperately tried to ignore the mentally unstable sorcerer echoing in his brain.

"Anyway, I am not copying you, Kakashi-sensei! My hair just... did this! And the goggles are completely functional!"

"Of course they are," Kakashi drawled, his tone dripping with amused skepticism as he turned back toward the path.

Then Naruto looked up. "Wait, why are you out here anyway?"

"Well, you've been summoned. Tazuna and a small army of terrifying local tailors are looking for you. Apparently, you need to be measured for a custom outfit for a village party."

Naruto's face instantly paled. A look of pure horror replaced his earlier excitement. "A party?! With all those villagers who want to name their babies after me?!"

'Told you that wasn't a joke,' Gojo snickered in the background.

"The very same," Kakashi chuckled, gesturing for him to follow. "Come along, Hero of the Wave. Duty calls."

The walk back through the village was painfully awkward. Every few steps, someone recognized him.

"Hero-sama!"

"We have named our goat after you. Please come and bless it."

"Thank you again, Naruto-sama!"

"We owe you our lives!"

It wasn't just words, either. Vendors actively tried to hand him free skewers of grilled fish and fresh produce.

"Hero-sama, please accept this ceremonial radish of gratitude!"

A group of little kids trailed behind them, whispering loudly and pointing in absolute awe.

A woman carrying heavy groceries bowed so deeply Naruto nearly panicked, waving his hands frantically in the air.

"PLEASE STOP DOING THAT," he blurted, his face burning bright red. "I'm just a genin! Normal bowing is fine! Actually, no bowing is totally fine!"

Kakashi's shoulders shook slightly beside him, his visible eye crinkling in delight.

"You're enjoying this way too much," Naruto grumbled, glaring up at the taller shinobi.

"I have no idea what you possibly could mean," Kakashi replied innocently, casually sidestepping a townsperson who looked like he was about to drop to his knees in prayer.

'This is incredible,' Gojo laughed inside his head, the sound echoing with clarity. 'You look like a stray cat someone accidentally promoted to feudal lord. Go on, wave to your subjects, Naruto. Give them a royal paw.'

If looks could kill Gojo would have been sent to the airport ten times over.

Eventually, they reached the familiar dirt path leading to Tazuna's house.

The moment Naruto slid the front door open—

"NARUTO-NI-CHAN!"

A small blur launched straight at him.

With his newly awakening senses, the world briefly slowed down. Naruto's Six Eyes mapped the exact trajectory, speed, and mass of the incoming projectile with effortless precision. He didn't even have to think; his body instinctively braced his legs to absorb the momentum.

Naruto barely had time to pretend to react before Inari slammed into his stomach with a fierce hug, burying his face into Naruto's dirty orange jacket.

"You disappeared all day!" the boy complained loudly. "Mom thought you got lost again! Or that you left without saying goodbye!"

Naruto blinked in surprise, the lingering tension from his training session slowly bleeding out of his shoulders before he awkwardly patted the kid's bucket hat. "Uh… sorry? I was just training in the woods."

Kakashi watched the interaction quietly from the doorway.

It was subtle.

But Naruto looked… different.

Not physically. Well, not just physically.

Naruto looked... grounded. The frantic, desperate energy Kakashi had grown used to over the past few weeks was absent. Even when the boy acted loud, there was a sharp presence underneath it. Like something behind his eyes had fundamentally shifted. Kakashi analyzed the way Naruto stood, perfectly balanced, weight distributed evenly, instinctively protecting his center of gravity without even realizing it.

And judging by the terrifying spatial distortion Kakashi's Sharingan had witnessed in the forest...

That change was only the beginning.

Then Inari stepped back, looking up suddenly and tilting his head. "…Why is your hair weird?"

Naruto froze.

Kakashi immediately looked at the ceiling to hide his amusement, coughing politely into his fist.

"IT'S NOT WEIRD!" Naruto squawked, his newfound cool completely shattering.

"It's kinda weird," Inari replied honestly, pointing a tiny finger. "It's all pale now. And why are you wearing your goggles indoors? You look like a bug."

'The brat is incredibly observant,' Gojo muttered. 'Though I resent the bug comparison. We are fashion icons, kid. Remember that.'

Naruto's eye twitched violently.

Before he could argue with an eight-year-old about contemporary style, Tsunami poked her head out from the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron.

"Oh good, you found him, Hatake-san. Naruto-kun, the tailors have been waiting for almost an hour."

Naruto's face drained of color, his skin suddenly matching his frosted hair. "…They're still here?"

"Of course we are!" a sharp voice shouted from deeper inside the house.

A terrifying stampede immediately followed. Footsteps hammered against the wooden floorboards like an incoming cavalry charge. Naruto took one horrified step backward, his hands instinctively coming up in a defensive guard.

"No..."

Three tailors rounded the hallway corner simultaneously with predatory synchronization. One wielded a massive spool of crimson thread, another held a menacing pincushion, and the leader snapped a yellow measuring tape tight between her hands with a loud, ominous crack.

"THERE HE IS!" the leader shrieked, her eyes locking onto Naruto like a hawk spotting a field mouse.

"Don't let him escape! We need his measurements!"

Naruto spun toward Kakashi, pure, unadulterated betrayal in his eyes. "KAKASHI-SENSEI, HELP ME."

Kakashi took one smooth step to the side, completely clearing the path.

"Good luck, Naruto. Remember, a shinobi always endures." Then, he casually pulled out his little orange book.

"YOU TRAITOR—"

Then the tailors descended upon him.

The lead tailor Miyuki, a fiercely determined older woman who looked like she had wrestled giant sturgeons out of the Great Naruto Strait with her bare hands, did not hesitate.

"Hold his arms!" she barked.

"Wait, wait, wait! Time out!" Naruto yelled, trying to use a basic evasion maneuver he'd learned at the Academy.

It was completely useless. The two assistant tailors moved with a synchronization that defied logic, pinning his shoulders against the wall.

Before Naruto could even think about channeling his newly discovered negative chakra to break free, a cold fabric measuring tape snapped around his neck.

"My, look at these shoulders," Miyuki hummed, her eyes narrowing as she frantically scribbled numbers onto a small notepad. "Too tense. And his jacket is absolutely filthy! Take it off, we need an accurate chest measurement!"

"Hey! Don't touch the orange!" Naruto protested, but the jacket was already being peeled off his shoulders.

From the corner of the room, Kakashi lazily flipped a page in Icha Icha Paradise, not even looking up. "Just cooperate, Naruto. The sooner they finish, the sooner you can get back to... whatever it is you do."

"You're dead to me, sensei," Naruto hissed, his voice muffled as a linen shirt was aggressively pulled over his head. "Dead."

'Oh, come on, look on the bright side,' Gojo laughed, lounging very comfortably and unharmed in the back of Naruto's mind. 'A custom-tailored haori? That's high-class stuff. Back in my day, people paid top dollar to see me in traditional formal wear. Just make sure they don't give you any tacky colors. If it's not black, white, or deep blue, we burn the shop down.'

'Shut up! They're poking me with needles!' Naruto thought back aggressively.

'Pain builds character, kid.'

'You wouldn't be saying that if you were the one getting poked!'

"Stand straight!" Miyuki ordered, slapping the back of Naruto's legs with the rolled tape. "Honestly, your posture is excellent, but you keep twitching. Stop moving!"

"I'm trying!" Naruto whined, his eye twitching underneath his tightly fastened goggles.

While the tailors continued their relentless assault with chalk, pins, and various measuring instruments Tazuna stepped into the entryway, carrying a large wooden crate that smelled faintly of fresh pine and lacquer. He set it down on the floor with a heavy thud, wiping a layer of sweat from his brow.

"Alright, the village elder sent over the ceremonial sandals and the formal hairpieces," Tazuna announced, glancing over at Naruto's noticeably paler hair. He paused, blinking heavily. "Wait a minute... Did the kid always have white hair? I could've sworn he was blond a couple of hours ago."

Kakashi finally lowered his book by a fraction of an inch, his dark eye glinting with mischief. "Ah, Tazuna-san. Our resident hero is just entering his rebellious phase. He's trying out a new look to match his favorite sensei."

"I AM NOT!" Naruto roared, nearly tripping over an assistant as she attempted to measure his inseam. "And you're barely my third favorite sensei!"

'Yeah, take that you second-rate copy!' Gojo yelled in Naruto's mind.

Inari, who was sitting on a wooden stool nearby chewing on a piece of dried fruit, pointed at Naruto. "He looks like an old man. An old man who got stuck in a mud puddle."

"Thank you, Inari," Kakashi murmured smoothly, entirely unbothered at Naruto's earlier remark. "Your honesty is always refreshing."

"I'm twelve!" Naruto screamed, his voice cracking slightly. "I'm not old!"

'To be fair,' Gojo chimed in thoughtfully, 'with the amount of stress you put your brain through today, you probably aged a solid six months. But don't worry, white hair makes you look sophisticated. Unlike that fraud over there. He uses it to hide the fact that he's a boomer and a total bum.'

Naruto bit his lip so hard he thought it might bleed. He couldn't yell back this time, or Kakashi would definitely think he was losing his mind.

"Done!" Miyuki suddenly declared, snapping her notepad shut with a definitive click. The two assistants immediately released Naruto's arms, stepping back and bowing politely to Tsunami. "We have everything we need. The fabric will be dyed by midnight, and the stitching will be finished by sunrise. He will look like a proper and distinguished gentleman for the festival tomorrow."

"Thank you so much, Miyuki-oba-san," Tsunami smiled warmly, reaching for her purse.

"No, no, I can't accept payment, Tsunami dear," the older woman stated firmly, waving her hands and heading back to her assistants. "A savior of our village doesn't pay for his own threads."

The three tailors packed up their gear with unbelievable speed, casting one final, scrutinizing look at Naruto's pale hair before marching out the front door like a victorious military unit.

Kakashi glanced up from his orange book as Naruto stalked past him into the hallway. The boy looked like he had just survived a localized flour explosion. There were white chalk lines drawn across his shoulders, pins sticking out of his collar, and his newly frosted hair was sticking up in every erratic direction.

"No hard feelings?" Kakashi offered lazily, not quite hiding the amusement in his visible eye.

Naruto stopped dead in the hallway. Slowly, deliberately, he turned his head. His blue eyes, hidden behind the tinted glass of his goggles, were completely flat.

"I'm burning your books."

Kakashi froze, his finger pausing halfway through turning a page. "…Naruto."

"Every single one," Naruto said, his voice entirely devoid of its usual energetic pitch. It was cold. Calculating. And Kakashi decided he did not like it.

Kakashi's eye narrowed slightly. "Now, now, let's be reasonable."

"I'll use Blue."

Kakashi instantly snapped the little orange book shut, clamping both hands over it and pulling it tight against his chest like he was protecting a sacred family heirloom. He had just watched that technique effortlessly delete a solid oak log from existence. A paperback novel wouldn't even leave behind ash!

"Now listen here," Kakashi said with sudden, genuine urgency, dropping the lazy act entirely. "A shinobi and his literature share a sacred, irreplaceable bond. You don't cross that line, Naruto."

"You sacrificed me to the measuring demons," Naruto countered ruthlessly, taking a single, predatory step toward his sensei.

"Technically, I delegated and it also built character." Kakashi pathetically countered.

"It built trauma."

From the kitchen, Tsunami let out a sudden, echoing laugh, followed by the clatter of a plate she had nearly dropped in her amusement.

'Do it,' Gojo encouraged instantly, his voice echoing in Naruto's mind like a devil on his shoulder. 'Destroy the smut. This is an important life lesson for him. True strength requires letting go of earthly attachments.'

Naruto's eyebrow twitched. 'Why are you cheering this on?!'

'Because character growth,' Gojo stated smoothly. 'Also, I want to see if Blue works on paper weight distribution. For science.'

Kakashi, sensing the strangely intense aura radiating from his student, slowly shifted one step sideways, keeping his literature completely shielded.

"Naruto, let's be reasonable adults about this," Kakashi said, trying to steer the situation back into safe, diplomatic waters. "I'll get you ramen. Two bowls. On me."

"Five," Naruto said immediately, not missing a beat.

Kakashi exhaled a long, suffering sigh, his shoulders slumping. "I'm trying to maintain a comfortable lifestyle as well, you know. I have a pack of ninken to feed!"

A beat of silence passed. Naruto's arms crossed tighter over his chest, rubbing slightly at the chalk dust on his sleeves. When he spoke again, his voice dropped slightly, losing the exaggerated comedic anger.

"…You still abandoned me."

The air in the hallway subtly changed. Kakashi didn't fire back a joke immediately this time. His grip on the orange book loosened. He looked at the kid standing in front of him, a kid who had spent his entire life in an empty apartment, completely alone, desperate for anyone to just stick around.

The silence stretched, the ambient sounds of Tsunami cooking in the kitchen suddenly feeling very far away. Kakashi lowered his book a few more centimeters. He let out a quiet breath, completely dropping his guard.

"…Fair enough."

Kakashi took a step forward and reached out, gently ruffling Naruto's pale, messy hair, ignoring the chalk dust that transferred onto his glove. He added, quieter but still firm: "Five bowls of Ichiraku on me when we get back to Konoha. Any toppings you want."

"Tch. Fine," Naruto replied, the tension finally leaving his shoulders as a small, victorious smirk broke through his scowl.

Suddenly, Inari leaned out from the kitchen doorway, his bucket hat tilted back. "So, can I help burn the books or—"

"NO!" both Naruto and Kakashi shouted at the exact same time.

Inari blinked, holding up his hands defensively. "Okay, okay, geez…" He ducked back into the kitchen.

Kakashi slowly reopened Icha Icha Paradise, but his posture was noticeably less casual now, his eye still keeping track of his student's hands just in case a blue orb decided to manifest. "…We are not revisiting this later," Kakashi muttered into his collar.

Naruto turned toward the staircase, his smirk widening as he adjusted his goggles. "We most definitely are revisiting this later."

Kakashi sighed. "Yeah. I know."
