Chapter Text
Windforce laughed softly as she watches Boombox chase after a butterfly, her wings shuffling lightly against her back. She adored Boombox as if he was her own child. She loved his little songs and tunes, his sparky yet kind personality, and of course, that silly smile that always seemed to be on his face.
But then, something changed in his face when that little red one showed up. Skateboard, so Boombox called him. Windforce disliked him, quite a lot. He didn’t do much that helps—just skated all over the place. So, Windforce threw Skateboard from Splintered Skies, hoping that it’d get her son’s attention back on her.
However, Boombox just looked…hurt, betrayed even. Like she just crushed his heart right in front of him. Then, he bursted into tears, as he clutched a photo of himself and Skate smiling happily together.
But this time, Windforce didn’t care. At least he’s now focused on her, and not that skater, right? Yeah! She was twice as important as a best friend or whatever.
Yet, Boombox started to drift away from her. He started snapping at her and cried even more. Windforce immediately knew what it was. It was because she’d thrown his precious little skater out of her domain.
She didn’t believe that Boombox could be so selfish. He’s unworthy of staying here in Splintered Skies if he wants to be with that skater so badly.
So, in her outrage, she exiles Boombox.
She throws her own son off the edge of Splintered Skies.
Windforce huffs as she pushes away that terrible memory. Her wings, once proudly resting against her back, droop with sadness and guilt. She’s pretty sure Boombox hates her now.
She wouldn’t blame him though. She did throw his best friend, and then him from Splintered Skies, which is several hundreds of feet above the ground.
Windforce misses Boombox a lot more than she thought she would. She told herself she wouldn’t care, and yet, here she is, wallowing in self-pity and despair. All she really wanted was for Boombox to stay in Splintered Skies.
She was just scared of being abandoned, in reality. She knows that’s a selfish fear, but she can’t help it.
Then, she suddenly hears it again. The echoes of Boombox’s voice singing one of his many songs. It’s not real, but it sounds so authentic that it hurts.
“I betrayed my own son…in my own hopeless hate…and every time I wake, I second guess the game I play…did I make a mistake?” Windforce whispers softly.
”Of course you did!”
”You threw your own son off the edge of Splintered Skies.”
”He hates you. He has every right to.”
Thoughts swirls in her head like loose flowers on a windy day—wild and somewhat chaotic. Her fingers tremble as she holds a photo of Boombox smiling in her hands—when did she even pick it up?—oh well, she doesn’t know, nor does she want to.
All she truly wants is to take back what she did and said. She still remembers how venomously she said Boombox’s name before throwing him from Splintered Skies. Her own voice echoes in her mind, haunting her.
Windforce, for once, feels lonely. It’s a horrible feeling, and she hates it. The world around her is too quiet. Her breath hitches as she swears she hears Boombox’s voice calling for her. But no, it’s just her own mind playing tricks on her again. Then, a tear falls. One turns into several as she starts to sob.
The world seems so much quieter without Boombox. Like he was never there at all.
She tries to stop herself from breaking down too badly—this kind of behaviour is unacceptable from one of the seven swords. She’s meant to be strong, not weak and sobbing over some inphernal who shouldn’t matter so much to her.
But, Boombox was and still is the most important thing to her. And she ruined everything between herself and him.
She guesses she only has herself to blame.
Boombox, who’s been a bit up and down lately, has been thinking of Windforce, despite what she did to him and Skateboard. He’s still mad at her for it.
If she really thinks that he’s just going to forgive her, she’s got rocks in her head. The last thing he heard from her was his name getting spat out like poison in her mouth.
And that…stung. A lot. Mainly because he thought that she’d never, ever do that to him.
But that’s the thing, isn’t it? The more you trust someone, the more you think they won’t betray you. And then it hurts when they do.
He hates her. What kind of mother just throws her child, adopted or not, off the edge of a domain that’s several hundreds of feet above the world below it?
Windforce is dead to him. She’s not his mother. She doesn’t deserve him, and he knows it.

.
She’s just selfish.
