Chapter Text
The moment Minute had informed the four about their planned vacation... varying reaction could be noticed.
Spoke was jumping around the room, holding year old - as he had claimed - glowsticks, that he acquired in a basement. Keyword being "a basement" not their basement. The glowsticks were twisted and put together in loops that hung around his neck and hugged his wrists.
Parrot seemed quite pleased. After everything that's happened recently, a vacation was much needed.
Although he's part bird, the cold never bothered him, infact he's become quite used to it after living in a small house located in a snow biome with a friend he couldn't quite remember...
Even though Flame doesn't appear to be the type to enjoy chilly places, he doesn't mind a little snow, especially if fun is involved. Being able to control your body temperature sure has its benefits. And hanging out with his friends and his...rival? Friend? Could prove to be very entertaining.
The only person who looked displeased or rather, like he's about to strangle the snow he hadn't even seen yet, was Wemmbu. Wemmbu absolutely despised the snow, cold or anything to do with any lower temperature place. Being cold-blooded had its downsides and he was not ready to face the harsh cold now nor ever.
Sure, he's been in lower temperature places before, but that was only if he was fighting, trapped or saving Egg. He'd never willingly go to a place like that, for vacation nonetheless.
The drive to the resort was scheduled to be around 6 hours and they would stay there for 10 days. After getting to their destination, Minute had booked them separate rooms in a log cabin, while staying there, he would leave them for the few days that they would spend at the resort so they could enjoy their time together.
Is it a good idea to leave the four trouble makers alone? Definitely not, but Minute is certain that Parrot and Flame are responsible and capable enough to take care of themselves and the other two. He hoped none of them would cause trouble
They had 4 days time to get ready and pack their bags for this adventurous vacation!
But first, everyone had to convince Wemmbu to come along with the rest of the group.
"Oh c'mon, stop being such a kid, it's a vacation bro, like you're supposed to enjoy it, not be afraid of it bro," Flame groaned, already annoyed at the purple half dragon, who was weirdly sitting on the very edge of the living room couch.
Wemmbu turned to Flame, the same annoyance visible in his expression, "Oh shut up, you don't get it. I'd prefer to not freeze to death rather than go on some vacation."
Flame crossed his arms, ready to leave and pack his stuff the moment Wemmbu finally comes to his senses. "You're overreacting bro, you're not gonna like freeze to death. Like if you really believe it's that bad bro, then you can just stay inside the whole day. Minute, bro, can't we just leave him here?"
"You- "
But before Wemmbu could continue his sentence, Minute interrupted, "Dalright, that's enough arguing. Wemmbu, if you really don't like the cold that much, then why don't you just stick with Flame more often? He can control his body temperature, no? Then you won't always be freezing to death."
The room went quiet for a split second before Wemmbu abruptly spoke, sounding... not too happy about Minute's suggestion. "Stick with... Flame? Are you serious? Do you really think I'd ever stick with that annoying, selfish chungie? I'd rather freeze to death. "
"Selfish? Annoying? Oh wow, look who's speaking. You're just describing yourself bro, like aint no way you're calling me annoying when you're literally scared of the cold and would rather argue about it then just get yourself together and go on the damn vacation bro." Flame kept arguing with Wemmbu, completely ignoring Minute's words.
Meanwhile the two bickered, Parrot and Spoke had already left to their rooms to pack their bags, leaving Minute with the two idiots. Perhaps Minute should remove Flame off his list of responsible people.
Considering Spoke is a voidling, he doesn't need to pack much with him, temperatures don't really affect him at all, only intense temperatures can get a reaction out of him.
Parrot was just packing the usual vacation stuff with him. A purple wool scarf, jackets, warm clothes and ...oh? There appeared to be a small pin located on the bottom of one of his drawers. A yin and yang pin ...it's seemed awfully familiar, but he couldn't quite remember where he got it from.
Wemmbu had finally agreed to go on the trip, but made a deal that he will stay inside most of the time. He's definitely going to regret this. Well... better get to packing I suppose.
-------------------------------------------------
The day of the trip had arrived. Everyone had woken up early, because of the long 6 hour car ride waiting for them right around the corner.
Wemmbu hadn't woken up in the greatest of moods, but that was to be expected. Spoke was energetic as always and still had his glowsticks for some reason, mabye he just really liked them. Flame still looked half asleep, but he could get the rest of his beauty sleep in the car. And Parrot was munching on some toast as he made his way to the front passenger seat.
"Hey-! Why does he get the front seat? I wanted it first!" Spoke yelled, way too loud in comparison to the time.
"Spoke, you can get the front seat on the way back, ok? Let Parrot have it this time," Minute calmly reassured Spoke. It was way too early to be dealing with this...
"Fine, whatever... you win this time, Parrot... ," Spoke murmured before heading to the backseat.
Spoke was considered the youngest of the group, so he always sat behind the front passenger seat. It was a sort of unwritten rule they had all just accepted.
Flame and Wemmbu on the other hand, were forced to sit next to eachother, which they didn't seem particularly fond about.
Flame sat behind the drivers seat and Wemmbu... got the middle. The worst place he could've gotten.
Minute, of course, was driving. After making sure everyone was present and Spoke hadn't run off somewhere, he started up the car engine and began the long 6 hour roadtrip towards their destination.
-------------------------------------------------
The first hour was noticeably calm. Flame was already passed out, his head resting against the black leather seat. Spoke was playing with some grass he had gathered from the side of the road at one of the gas stations they had stopped at, aswell as talking to himself, which was nothing unusual.
Parrot was chatting with Minute about his plans for when they reach the resort and Wemmbu... Wemmbu was bored out of his mind, he definitely didn't want to join in on whatever grass cult Spoke was hosting, yet he also didn't feel drowsy enough to sleep.
"Minuteee, are there any cool places we could stop at on the way?" Wemmbu asked, silently counting every blade of grass Spoke had collected.
"Uhh, well, let me check... there's a lake about an hour away from here. We'll pass by it anyway, wanna stop there for a few minutes?" Minute proposed, taking a sip of the latte he had ordered at one of the gas stations they had stopped at.
By now, Parrot was also gradually falling asleep. The only ones awake were Minute, Wemmbu and Spoke. Spoke was still doing... whatever he was doing. Wemmbu had moved on to counting every tree they passed by, while also chatting with Minute.
Hour two had come, time was passing by rather slowly for Wemmbu...
Parrot had woken up from his slumber and was now scrolling on his phone, occasionally exchanging a word or two with Spoke.
Flame... was still sleeping.
Geez, how much does he usually even sleep?
Right as Wemmbu was ready to fall asleep aswell, suddenly car did a sharp turn and now... Flame's head was resting on Wemmbu's shoulder.
Could this day get any worse...
But he must admit, Flame was quite warm and the outside temperature was just beginning to drop. Just Wemmbu's luck, oh how he wishes to be home right now... in his warm, comfy bed, away from all the cold...
"Here we are, this is the lake I mentioned earlier, we'll take a break here for a few minutes, no longer than half an hour though. And Wemmbu, wake up Flame, please," Minute spoke up, breaking the silence that had consumed the group.
The purple half dragon groaned, annoyed at having to do anything Flame related. "Flameee, wake upp, we're stopping for a bit." He said in that obnoxious tone of voice, while poking at the netherborn.
Flame groaned, frustrated at getting his much needed rest interrupted. Upon opening his eyes, he glanced at Wemmbu. Dark red, yet somehow vibrant irises gazing into the half dragons soul. If looks could kill, he'd be dead by now. "...You wake me one more time and I'll make sure you'll be the one not waking up..."
"Dalright, no violence Flame, if anything, I asked him to wake you up. Now, everyone get out and enjoy your few minute break before we're back on the road for the next 2 hours." Minute announced, watching as everyone hopped out of the vehicle.
The lake was slightly overgrown, although the beauty of it remained the same. Cattails were growing at certains sides of the lake and lily pads covered the surface of the body of water. Varying sizes of lily pads could be seen, ranging from the size of a hand to the size of a ball.
The water could be seen shimmering from the reflection of the sunlight, deep dark hues changing to almost blinding whites in a matter of seconds.
Located around the lake were a few worn-out, old looking benches. The wood seemed to be rotting on most of them and the metal rails bent in a completely opposite direction from where they were originally supposed to be.
A dock was located at the edge of the lake, gradually bringing itself deeper into the depths of the water. Emerald colored algae growing up the crooked, yet durable wooden pillars and stopping right at the water line.
Wemmbu headed over to inspect the sturdiness of one of the nearby benches, before plopping himself down on the slab of wood, admiring the stunning view of the lake and sunny, azure sky. He could've sworn he noticed something yellow and golden colored in the corner of his eye. Huh... a sunflower field... that's strange, this isn't the most typical place to find a sunflower field, but what does he know about that, perhaps someone else might know more.
Flame had grabbed a blanket from the trunk of the car and placed it down on the vivid green grass. As he sat down, Minute joined him and started rambling on about some book he read, which had described the type of fish living in lakes and other aquatic creatures and so on, Flame was too lost in his own thoughts to listen to whatever the voidling was yapping about.
Parrot had somehow already befriended two birds and was inspecting a ladybug, who was situated on top of a relatively large blade of grass. Except... right as he was about to pick it up, a loud sploosh was heard in the distance, scaring away his bird friends and causing Parrot to look over to the cause of the sound.
Spoke.
Spoke had somehow managed to get on the farthest edge of the dock and had conjured up this amazing idea to try feed the fish with the grass he'd started a cult with earlier. Getting down on his knees and reaching for the water on any other dock would already be a pretty dumb idea, but on a rotting, fragile dock it was an even worse idea.
As expected, the dock couldn't hold his body weight for much longer and had collapsed right under him...
Fortunately the water wasn't terribly deep and after kicking around a few moments, the voidling successfully made it to the shore of the lake. Minute heard the commotion and was already standing by the shore, holding a towel in hand he had taken from the trunk.
Minute knew the best out of everyone here, how much voidlings hated water and anything wet. Temperature didn't bother them, but water? It was such an uncomfortable and strange feeling against the voidling skin and often left it irritated and scratchy. Although the irritation lasted only about half an hour.
"Spoke, what were you planning to achieve by doing that? You alright?" Minute questioned, placing the towel over Spokes shoulders, who was now dripping wet and shivering.
Still coughing from having inhaled too much water, the voidling answered, a raspier voice than usual, "There was a plan, cough the dock just disagreed with it. But I'm fine, just cough breathed in too much water. "
"Right, well, how about you dry off as much as you can, then we'll get going. " Minute stated, heading back to the vehicle.
Somewhere in the background, Wemmbu was hysterically laughing, witnessing the whole ordeal, while Flame was just watching, snickering occasionally.
Parrot wasn't very pleased with Spokes idiocy making his new friends fly away, nevertheless he was still concerned about his voidling friend, so while the other two were laughing, Parrot went over to check on Spoke.
20 minutes later, Spoke was mostly dry, although every so often he would still scratch at his skin.
Meanwhile everyone was getting ready to get back on the road, Wemmbu was oddly crouched down near the lake, it seemed like he was holding something?
Oh dear gosh, he'd somehow caught a fish.
The fish was small in size, wriggling around, trying to get out of the half dragons grip, but to no avail. He was flaunting it around, showing it off to everyone, before Minute forced him to put the poor fish back.
By now, Minute was ready to just leave them at the side of the road, surely they could find their way to the resort, right?
Only after everyone had pulled themselves together and gotten in the car, Minute began driving again.
3 hours had already passed and there weren't any plans on stopping for the next 2 hours.
Remind Wemmbu to never go on roadtrips again, he swears he has never been this bored in his life. Just as he was about to try sleep for the next few hours, hoping to make the time pass quicker, Flame spoke up.
"Look! it's starting to snow already, " Flame pointed out the car window, light blue, frosty flakes could be seen gradually descending from the cloud-covered sky.
Everyone else looked outside aswell, instantly noticing the snow covered trees glistening in the sunlight. The snow on the road was alot mushier and dirtier, since vehicles would often drive over it, though in comparison the snow closer to the trees was a glimmering, pearly white. It seemed so inviting and soft... hiding harsh biting temperatures in its beauty.
People only see the beauty in things and are often oblivious to the pain it might cause them, but people who fear these things notice every little detail the beauty hides, especially the pain that comes from these things.
Wemmbu always notices the cold first. No matter where he is or what he's looking at, the first thing he'll notice is temperature. Looks won't fool him, if it's at the cost of his own comfort.
Currently he was fast asleep, a blanket draped over him, while Spoke was trying to invent new hairstyles with his purple, silky hair.
Flame was still looking out of the window, listening to music on his headphones and Parrot was once again, just scrolling on his phone.
Spoke had offered to play Uno earlier, though the others had declined saying "this wasn't a good place for it" or "mabye later". Most likely they just didn't want to play anytime soon, considering what occurred the previous time.
After 2 long, boring hours, they had finally stopped at a gas station located on the side of the road. Spoke had picked out some vivid, acidic looking drink, stating that it looked vibrant enough to glow in the dark, hence if he drank it, it would make him glow in the dark.
Flame and Parrot were both yapping about their plans and complaining about their limbs aching from being in the car for so long. They both picked out some crispy chips and coke, while heading back to Spoke.
Wemmbu wasn't feeling hungry, so he opted to stay in the car, rummaging to find another warm blanket, almost falling into the trunk in the process. In the end, he had acquired a second blanket from somewhere in the corner, behind the backseats. Sitting back in his place right as the others returned.
Just one more hour left to go.
The last hour was relatively quiet. Everyone was drained from the long drive and didn't have the energy to cause any trouble. Surprisingly, even Spoke was calm, silently counting every snowflake on his window.
Parrot had been chatting with Minute about some philosophical questions and such. Even if someone tried to listen in, they most likely wouldn't understand a thing.
Wemmbu and Flame were both in a deep sleep. Wemmbu was curled up in a very... uncomfortable looking position and Flame was resting his head against the window. Parrot had had this genius idea to take a picture of them earlier, perhaps it could be used as good blackmail...
Around 20 minutes later Minute announced that they had finally arrived. The resort looked huge, well from the parking lot it did atleast.
There were massive snowy mountains and hills in the distance and a series of well sized log cabins infront, looking like the perfect composition straight out of a painting, that would sell for millions.
Farther out were separate skiing and snowboarding trails, ranging from easy, beginner difficulty to much harder trails. A ski lift was located between the trails and the resorts main building.
Spoke had woken up Wemmbu and Flame. Flame seemed rather ecstatic, Wemmbu on the other hand was already moping and whining about how he'd rather be home currently than here.
While everyone was gathering their luggage, Wemmbu seemed to be hovering nearby Flame alot, good to know he took Minute's advice to heart. These few days might possibly make Wemmbu grow closer with Flame, hopefully they won't fight as much anymore...
After making their way to the main building and stepping inside, Minute was already making his way towards the receptionist, while everyone else patiently waited nearby.
When the voidling had gotten their cabin key, they all headed back outside in search of their new temporary home.
The group had found it after a measly 10 minutes out in the cold. Upon opening the door, the smell of old wood, earth and the burning wood from a fireplace hit them like an avalanche. The log cabin was nicely decorated and had a cozy feeling to it. It comprised of 2 floors, on the second floor were 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. However on the first floor was a giant living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a storage room. The living room consisted of 2 large couches, a fireplace and 3 armchairs.
The place looked very luxurious and incredibly spacious for 4 people and the view outside was just as incredible.
Once everyone was inside, Minute had explained to them everything they needed to know, a small lecture per say and bid them farewell. Just like that, the most responsible person in the group was gone. Yet, no havoc ensued, everyone was exhausted from the long day and were already searching for their bedrooms.
The moment the group had all found their beds, they flopped down and immediately fell asleep. It had been a long day for them.
What will be waiting for them the next day? Only time will tell...
