Chapter Text
That evening, Loid prepared dinner for the Forgers and Franky, who had returned from walking Bond and wanted to eat the 'Hamburg' Anya talked about all the time.
The Forger Residence door flung open.
“Sis! I’m heeeere!”
“Hi, Yuri.” Yor smiled at him. “What are you doing here?”
“I had some free time. And I missed you. I thought we could go out this weekend?”
“Oh, that's perfect. Loid has work that day. We can take Anya to the park.”
Yuri grumbled but didn’t protest.
That’s progress, thought Loid.
“Would you like to stay for dinner?” He asked.
Yuri bit back his usual ‘as if I would eat anything you make’ response.
“Yes, thank you.”
All three members of the Forger family stared at Yuri.
“What!?”
“Unki, did someone hit your head?”
“Anya!” Loid scolded, and she sniggered.
“I just want to spend time with my sister, Chihuahua girl. Do you have a problem with that?”
“Nope.”
Anya suddenly jumped off her chair and ran into her room. She returned with a folded paper and gave it to Yuri.
“Is this some secret code from that stupid Spy show you watch?”
“No. It is a letter for you.”
“From whom?”
“Me.”
Becky had told her that she HAD to make a card for Yuri. “He’s your real uncle,” she had said. “Master will feel bad if you don’t give him one.”
“I can’t read a single word on this.”
“Yuri! Don’t be mean to her.”
“But Sis, look. Can you really understand anything?”
Yor took the letter and read it out loud.
“Hello Unki Yuri,
You are not very nice to Anya most of the time. But you try sometimes. That’s okay. At least you are very nice to Mama. So I am happy.
Becky says I should write something nice about you. You are good at studies. You are able to make friends (Aunt Chloe is very nice) that is also good. You are funny sometimes.
You should buy me more peanuts. Happy Father’s Day.
LoveThank you,Anya”
“Oh, Anya!” Yor returned the letter to Yuri and wrapped her daughter in a hug.
“You wrote this for me?” Yuri asked.
“Unki, are you sure nobody hit you?”
“Anya!” Loid scolded from the kitchen. "I’ve told you not to talk back."
“But Papa! There is no other Unki Yuri!”
“Do you want me to ban your Spy show for a week?”
Anya grumbled.
“Thank you for the card, Chihuahua girl. I’ll– uh– th-thank you.”
Chloe is right. I have made a six-year-old my rival.
He patted her on the head, and Yor smiled fondly at the sight. However, Franky glared at the man.
“What!?” asked Yuri.
Franky turned his glare towards Anya, who giggled.
“How could you! How could you!”
Anya gave him a deadpan look.
“You didn’t cry on Mother’s Day.”
“You! Ugh! Is this what I get? I take care of you all the time. I play with you. I protect you from, uh, from bad guys. I thought you liked me!”
Anya slid down from Yor’s lap and went over to pat Franky’s head.
“There, there. Silly Scruffy.”
“That’s it? He gets a card, and I get a head pat!?”
Yuri looked pretty satisfied with himself.
“Listen, Scruffy. You will get a card from Starlight Anya. But you will get it on your day.”
“Yeah? And when is that? Babysitter’s day?” he asked bitterly.
“Nope. Friendship Day, obviously.”
All four adults stared at Anya. Loid and Yor exchanged a glance and held back their laughter. Yuri had no such inhibitions.
“That’s even worse!” Franky screamed.
“He, he, he,” sniggered Anya. “You are so funny, Scruffy!”
“You just wait. I won’t bring you those coloured pens. Or the explosinator. Or the cape you wanted. Oh, and the jumping skates I told you about? Forget it! And–”
“Nooooooo! Scruffy, that’s very mean!”
Anya threw her small fists at him.
“Ow! Ow! OW! Now I’ll ABSOLUTELY not give it.”
Anya’s lips turned downwards and trembled, her eyes filled with tears.
“I HATE you!”
She turned to run away to her room, and Franky grabbed her.
“Oh! I am sorry, Starlight Anya!” He whispered loudly. “Of course, I’ll get it for you. But we have strangers amongst us. I can’t let them know about our secret weapons.”
“Really?”
Franky nodded, and Anya began cackling.
“Hey! Who are you calling a stranger?” Yuri shouted.
Loid shook his head.
As if there’s a single person in the world who can brave Anya’s tears.
