Chapter Text
A year later, Logan finally took Morph to meet his mother.
It was just the two of them in the quiet cemetery. Morph stood beside Logan, hands shoved into the pockets of their jacket. For once, they weren’t talking. Logan appreciated that. They were standing in front of a simple headstone.
Elizabeth Howlett
Logan hadn’t been here in years. He crouched and brushed a few leaves away from the base of the stone.
“Sorry, it’s been a while, Mother,” he smiled faintly. “Thought there’d be more time.”
The breeze stirred around them. Logan stared at the engraved name. Then he found himself talking.
About the garden she’d loved.
About the books she’d read to him.
About the way she’d always known when he was lying.
About the way she’d laughed.
About the way she’d made the world feel safe.
Morph listened to every word.
“She would’ve liked you.”
“I… you don’t know that.”
“I do.”
“No, seriously.” Morph pointed at themself. “Look at me.”
Logan looked confused.
Morph rolled their eyes. “You know what I mean.”
Logan stood and turned toward them. “No, I don’t.”
Their smile faded slightly.
Logan reached for their hand. “She would’ve loved you.”
“Logan—”
“I’m serious.”
His thumb brushed across their knuckles. “She would’ve loved how stubborn you are.”
Morph laughed weakly. “That’s not usually the first thing people like about me.”
Logan kept going. “She would’ve loved how kind you are. How hard you try.”
Morph looked away. “Logan.”
“How you make people laugh. How you somehow manage to make every room brighter just by being in it.”
Tears started to form in Morph’s eyes.
Logan smiled softly. “She would’ve loved you because you’re you.”
Morph wiped angrily at their face. “Damn it.”
Logan chuckled.
“Shut up.”
“About how wonderful you are? Never.”
Morph laughed through the tears.
The sound made Logan’s chest ache. Because for so many years, he’d thought this moment would never happen. Thought he’d missed his chance.
Instead, Kevin Sydney was standing right in front of him.
His soulmate.
His best friend.
The love of his life.
Logan reached into his pocket.
Morph frowned. “What are you doing?”
“Hold on.”
Their eyes narrowed. “Logan...”
He pulled out a small ring box.
Morph stopped breathing. “Oh.”
Logan suddenly felt very nervous, which was ridiculous. He’d fought in countless wars, endured unspeakable torture, but this? This was terrifying.
“You’re… you’re kidding.”
“Nope.”
“Logan.”
“Kevin.”
Morph laughed. Then immediately started crying. “Oh my god.”
Logan dropped to one knee, and for a moment, all he could see was Morph.
Just Morph.
Always Morph.
"I spent over a century looking for K.S." His eyes softened. "Worth every second.”
Morph made a broken sound.
“I love your stupid jokes.”
Morph laughed.
“I love how you steal my food. I love that you somehow convinced me to like movie nights.”
“You’re welcome.”
Logan shook his head fondly. “I love you, Kevin Sydney. So…”
Logan opened the box. “Will you marry me?”
Morph stared at him.
For a terrifying second, Logan thought they might pass out.
Instead, Morph threw themself forward and tackled him into the grass.
“YES.”
Logan laughed.
Morph was crying openly now. “Yes, yes, yes.”
Logan wrapped his arms around them.
Morph pulled back enough to look at him.
Their cheeks were wet. Their smile was beautiful.
“I never thought this would happen.”
Logan brushed a tear from their cheek. “What?”
“This.” Morph gestured helplessly between them. “Any of it. My parents spent my whole life telling me nobody would ever love me.”
Logan’s chest tightened. “Kev—”
“They said I was a monster. They said soulmates were only for normal people.”
Logan pulled them closer. “They were wrong.”
Morph laughed shakily. “Yeah.”
Logan kissed them. “They were real wrong.”
His forehead rested against theirs.
"Because I don't love you despite who you are, Kevin."
Another tear slipped down Morph's cheek.
"I love you because of who you are."
For a while, they lay together in the grass, just holding each other.
“So...”
Morph immediately looked suspicious. “So?”
“Don’t suppose you’d go for eloping?”
“Hell no.”
“I figured…”
“We are having a HUGE wedding.”
“Oh?”
“A gigantic wedding.”
“Uh-huh.”
“The gayest wedding in history!”
Logan laughed so hard his stomach hurt.
“I’m serious.”
“I know you are.”
“There will be dancing.”
“Mmhmm.”
“There will be matching outfits.”
“Nope.”
“There will be embarrassing speeches.”
“Absolutely not.”
Morph grinned.
Logan shook his head.
Then leaned forward and kissed them.
When they finally pulled apart, he rested his forehead against theirs. “I’ll do it for you.”
Morph smiled. “I know.”
Logan squeezed their hand.
“I love you, Kevin Sydney.”
“I love you too, James Howlett.”
