Chapter Text
Why now, of all times?
The call ended, just like that. No goodbyes and no explanations.
Wifies’s phone was still pressed against his ear, even after the screen had long gone dark. He considered, just for a brief moment, just this once..one practice. Just one, would be all he ever needed. One singular hour where his life belonged to him, and him alone, instead of the constant whirring of machines and injections…
The thought dissipated as soon as it came.
Nervously, Wifies tugged at the hem of his hoodie as he went to go call his best friend to tell him. Parrot would forgive him right? Even if there was a higher chance he would, he felt the guilt of the situation sink to his stomach.
The static sound of the call went on before the avian answered, humming softly, “Yeah?”
“Parrot, something came up and I can't come to practice, sorry...” Wifies’s voice was full of shame – and not only disappointment in the situation, disappointment in himself.
“Hey, It's no worries!” Parrots' voice was full of warmth as per usual, ”But you better come next time, okay…? Promise!” Parrot's voice felt like a dump of cold water to his rattled senses.
Wifies muttered a low agreement and hung up the phone, eyes averted to the floor. Despite Parrot not being mad at him, he still felt really ashamed in himself.
Like, he was technically the one who found the music room yet he bailed out on their plans to practice. What type of friend was he???
…A horrible one obviously. The worst friend Parrot would probably have..!
Wifies picked up his small bag with all the stuff he usually needed when Evilfies told him to come to the lab. It was usual things that a normal patient would need, but he wasn't a normal one. He was an anomaly.
He needed to be there quickly, or else he'd definitely get in trouble– Or maybe it wouldn't just be the experiments so his body wouldn't shut down.
He saw what Evilfies made the other clones go through. He witnessed it with his own eyes a plethora of times.
…Evilfies never really said it, but he was oddly fascinated over how Wifies worked. Because he was the only clone that was this sentient. That was the main reason why Evilfies never did all these horrible things to Wifies.
Of course, all the other clones were too, sentient, but… Well he was the only one who actually went to school, and he doesn't even mean that in a joking way, he's full on serious.
Evilfies texted him again, the notification beeping loudly on his phone.
the car is waiting for you
outside campus. be here quick
ok
Wifies felt his heart racing as he walked over out of campus, out the gates and out the administration where he saw the car and another clone of him in the drivers seat.
Usually, seeing it would creep Wifies out, but at this point he's seen it far, far too many times to even be bothered with it anymore. It was just something to be used to now.
He sat in the passenger seat, his fingers hovering over the passcode of his locked phone before he unlocked it, pressing the messages button and onto his best friend's contacts.
Parrot 💕🐦
wifies

then we can do our first official

First… official practice?
Wifies couldn't help but let out a soft laugh, hiding the smile on his face. They really did want to be with him.
Parrot really did want him to be there.
Theo really did want him to be there.
His mind drifted off to them, and he just wished this feeling of joy would last endlessly, far into the utopia of eternity into the afterlife.
Just him, Parrot and Theo.

“Wifies, We have arrived.” Compared to Wifies firm yet soft voice, this robotic clone of his’ voice sounded more.. automated. Sure it did sound sort of like him… Not enough though.
He was the most sentient clone, so it did make enough sense for him.
He grabbed his bag with a lightweight grip, hands shivering slightly as he opened the car door and walked out to the labs.
To the one he usually went to for appointments.
Well, a better word for it was experiments.
Never really was that greatly scheduled for him always.
The halls were cold-coloured and smelled sterile, like an empty hospital would. Glass tubes stood dormant across the corridor, and cables strung from the ceiling like vines. There were a few tables with sharp, polished equipment all around the lab along with rooms that showed other clones.
Clones that weren't as lucky as him.
He found the door, stalking around it for a few seconds before he knocked lightly eyes averted to the floor as he waited patiently.
“Doors open, #1108.”
Wifies flinched at the name before opening the door and hastening to sit down onto the hard, plastic chairs. The room smelt artificial. The surroundings? All painted over with ashen information, numbers and codes etched into the laboratory. The sounds of clones walking in the hallway reverberated throughout the room, echoing endlessly.
“I'm sure you know why I called you here today.” Evilfies voice was firm as he spoke, his arms crossed as he gazed straight into Wifies’ eyes. Screens illuminated the background as he spoke.
The dog hybrid nodded, albeit a bit nervously, as he tried to keep eye contact with the scientist, his body feeling stiff and itchy under Evilfies’ relentless stare.
“Words.”
“Yes sir, I know why you called me here today.” Wifies replied quickly, biting his lip as he fidgeted with the hem of his hoodie.
“Your heart rate has been increasing over the past few days, hasn't it? You feel less energetic, less motivated in general.”
Wifies felt his hands shivering at the spot on analysis his creator gave him. Of course he would know what was wrong.
Wifies muttered under his breath a small agreement, biting his lip softly to hold any whimpers as his creator started the ‘tests.’
It didn't feel the best to go through.
Even if he had done it many times.

Parrot was in his room, studying as he ate some leftover cheesecake he bought from the cafe just outside of campus.
Theo was in his room and as per usual, was playing Minecraft PVP and screaming at every win he got.
Parrot let out a soft groan but couldn't stifle the small laugh that rose out of him at hearing the yellow haired boy complain and groan.
He laid down on the soft couch he was sitting on, pulling the weighted blanket over him as he sighed.
He really wondered what Wifies was doing that was so important.
He hadn't been back in awhile.
He grabbed his phone from the coffee table, unlocking it as his fingers hovered over Wifies contact for a few seconds, his eyes hesitant.
He turned off his phone, pulling his knees up to his chest.
Wifies was probably busy, if Parrot texted him maybe Wifies would get annoyed or it would distract him. He wouldn't want to distract his best friend from something important.
He also did really want to text Wifies though…
No, Parrot no! You're not texting him! If you do you– you won't be the biggest bird anymore!
Parrot got up from the couch, pulling the blanket with him and draping it over himself, making him look half like a cheap ghost and more like a (not scary at all) mummy.
He quickly speed walked to Theo's room, knocking multiple times impatiently and just saying his name over and over.
“Theo?? Theo… Theo? Theo! Theo. Theo… Theo Theo Theo Theo–”
The cocktail opened his door, crossing his arms and looking annoyed as he looked over at Parrot.
“Why exactly are you repeating my name like an actual Parrot and absolutely knocking on my door???”
Theo tilted his head, expression a mix of amusement and slight irritation.
“Uh…Hang..Out? You can like .. teach me how to… do cart pvp..?”
Theo let out a teasing laugh as he glanced over at him, “I fear I might need some.. convincing.”
…
He wants to be glazed.
No way Parrot has to glaze this bum bro.
Parrot took a deep breath as his wings fluffed up, “You're the best… Cart Pvper in the whole of minecraft..?”
“Yeah?” Theo smirked, walking to sit on his old ass gaming chair. Wow, that gaming chair sure looks like it's been through stuff.. Parrot mused before letting out a soft huff and continuing.
“You..like…play violin..?”
“...Is that what you consider a compliment?”
Parrot let out a quick scoff, shaking his head rapidly, "Don't be mean bro, I rarely compliment people the last time I was told to I complimented them on how good they were at complimenting me.”
Theo looked at Parrot like he was special– Okay maybe he should've expected a reaction like that.
“Don't judge me! I'm not a glazer bruh, I'm the one who gets glazed! And I deserve it too because I'm the biggest bird.”
“No way the smallest bird thinks he's the biggest when the biggest one aka me is already here.”
The cocktail and Parrot had a playful argument for a few more minutes, exchanging a few simple jabs at each other and laughing after.
Now, Parrot was sitting in the gaming chair, looking at Theo's keyboard incredulously, “Is this what you use to play..?”
“Ok the difference between me and you bro I live for Cart PvP you? Have never touched that in your whole life bro.”
Parrot let out a small huff, rolling his eyes playfully over at Theo. “Bro did not have to be so blunt about it.”
“Yeah yeah man, go ahead and try what I do with my eyes closed.”
Parrot walked around in the game, looking around awkwardly as he took out the tnt Minecraft and almost tried to place it by itself because realising what he was trying to do.
“Oh this is so not amazeballs..!” Parrot let out a all nervous laugh, putting the rails down on the ground and a Minecraft TNT cart on top before blowing it up.
“Nahnahnah let me show you how a true pro does it.”
Theo pushed Parrot's hands off the keyboard and mouse, making Parrot let out a small gasp of fake shock.
“Cant believe you'd do that to your future king..”
“What are you blabbering about bro?” Theo cut him off before he somehow managed to blow up the tnt cart all within what– barely even two seconds.
“Bro how do I genuinely do that.” Parrot replied in awe, glancing over at Theo who had an absolutely locked in expression on his face.
After a few seconds, Theo paused to look over at Parrot, his face smug and confident, “Well I guess I could teach my soon to be loyal follower.”
“Who is bro?” Parrot groaned, putting his head in his hands, his wings fluttering as he let out a soft laugh.

Parrot regretted asking Theo, ok maybe not completely regret, but his hands hurt like HELL.
“Ok now you try.”
Parrot took the keyboard and mouse, going into a PvP game mode and starting the round.
The avians tongue stuck out in concentration, a focused look present on his usually calm features.
…
Ok, he just bombed himself.
Theo burst out into a fit of giggles, roughly patting Parrots back which made the avian squeal and chirp loudly.
“Y..You're so…do another round for me plea–”
“I'm not playing this bum ass game, on my mama I'm not bro Its– it's ragebaiting me!”
Theo huffed, “I'll teach you more soon, you know cuz you're like my new student. I'll be your mentor. Because I’m the biggest bird.”
Parrot just put his head in his hands, his hair cascading down to cover him completely, “Whatever you say, whatever you say..”
Theo sat down on the bed, crossing his legs and leaning against the plush mattress. “Did Wifies ever tell you where he went?”
Parrot glanced over at Theo, a slightly sullen expression on his face before he shook his head, “No. It's probably something important.” Parrot started, quickly walking over to sit next to Theo.
“He seemed.. really down when he called me about it. And even when he texted me.” Parrot finished, letting out a light groan as he rested his head on Theo’s pillow.
“Whatever it is, maybe we just aren't close enough to him for him to tell us.” Theo reassured.
It still didn't feel right to Parrot. How could he become closer to Wifies then?
Was.. was this a problem that Parrot could solve?
Parrot stood up quickly, his wings stiffening up. “I'm gonna go back to my room for today. See you tomorrow, Theo.”
Theo waved, a concerned expression on his features, “Don't let it get to you, ok? Wifies might just also not be confident enough to say what the problem is.”
Parrot tuned Theo out, speed-walking away to his room.
His dorm felt exactly the same, which somehow made everything feel worse.
The only thing that remained on the line was silence.
Parrot hesitated near the piano that Wifies got him. Fingers hovering over the keys, hesitant to play.
The first few notes came out wrong. The next, better. Not right.
And another, and another, and the room stopped feeling silent.
…
Parrot left a gap in the melody for when someone was supposed to join in. Nobody did, however.
The final note lingered. The piano fell quiet, and what followed after…didn’t feel like music.
