Chapter 5
Together with Her
(Normal POV)
Some time passed and the event was over. Caine had suggested everyone get some sleep since tomorrow, there will be a new adventure planned for everyone that hopefully will convince everyone to take part, and also announced that there is a new surprise waiting for them in their rooms. Which left them surprised, yet also confused about what surprise Caine has for them.
But the moment they all entered the hallway with all of the bedrooms, they could then see what Caine was referring to: many of the doors had two faces together, which means these rooms are now for couples! Kinger and Queenie quickly find their room that had originally been just for Kinger now set for him and his wife.
Scratch had a room with a cat, surprising. Ribbit and Ragatha have their rooms combined into one with the original being Ribbit’s. Kaufmo shares a room with a very flexible jester. Gangle and Zooble together in what was originally Zooble’s room. Jax and Pomni together in Jax’s room. While the other original rooms currently have no faces on the doors.
Everyone is excited to be sharing rooms with someone dear, Gangle laughs as she and Zooble take hands and enter their room together, Ragatha pulls Ribbit along to their room. Eventually everyone else had been going into their newly prepared rooms, leaving Jax and Pomni the last ones in the hall.
Taking one more glance at her former door, her face missing, felt odd. But honestly, back when Jax was abstracted, Pomni had stayed in his room in order to feel close to him and her room just made her feel more lonely without him.
He noticed the sad look in her eyes then he looked at the door. “Your old room makes you feel off?” Jax asked, picking up what is making his jester sad.
“Yeah,” Pomni admits, “while you were abstracted, when I wasn’t visiting you, or not on an adventure or not with the others, I would stay in your room. It was one of few things that made me feel that you were still here.”
Noticing tears forming in her eyes, Jax thinks to himself without looking towards their door when he looks towards the stage, where something else may still be there. “How about we go back to the fort?” He suggested, Pomni look up at him in surprise with a few unshedded tears.
“Really, Jax? You’re ok with the fort?” A single nod and that was enough. Taking one hand each, Jax and Pomni walk away from their room and leave the hall, hearing soft snores behind most of the other doors, meaning most everyone was all fast asleep.
They did have a quick run in with Caine, who simply wished the pair sweet dreams before he retired to his office himself, after a single snap and their regular clothes became sleep wear with Jax in sweats and a loose black shirt and Pomni in red shorts and blue short sleeve shirt.
The lights had dimmed in the circus, yet the limited light proved no problem for both Jax and Pomni. To find the fort still standing, the pair enter the fort with Jax laying down first in the ring in the middle, Pomni crawling over until she is close enough for Jax to wrap his arms around her and she gently holds his face in both hands.
For a while they just laid there in comfortable silence, Pomni’s thumbs gently stroked Jax’s cheeks with their eyes locked on each other. But then Pomni blinks with tears shedding from her eyes, her head down so he wouldn’t see the bitter tears.
But he saw them, causing a pang of guilt to hit his heart, aware of how much she missed him. Jax caresses her face. “Pomni, look at me.” He said gently.
Pomni looks back at Jax, the tears visible and starting to sting her eyes. “I’m sorry, Jax. It was hard witnessing your abstraction and I still wish you had talked to me before we reached that point.”
“I told you, it was too late for me at that time. I had brought the punishment I deserved for hurting you and the others upon myself.” Jax said honestly. “I doubt I was worth being saved from abstraction.”
“Don’t you dare say that!” Pomni couldn’t believe her ears that Jax didn’t believe he wasn’t worth saving. “We may never know how the abstraction was able to be reversed, but that miracle brought you back to me, brought Queenie back to Kinger, brought Ribbit back to Ragatha. And the miracle also restored everyone else that was abstracted and for once in a long time, it brought hope upon the circus.”
Jax wiped the bitter tears from Pomni’s eyes before cupping her face. “I’m sorry, Pomni. I’m just still surprised this miracle decided to save me, bringing us back together and closer than before. And I’m eternally grateful for this.” Jax leans his forehead against hers, Pomni leans into his back.
“As am I.” Pomni agrees. Their smiles and gaze soft, Pomni and Jax lean much closer to share a kiss. After they break the kiss, Pomni then notices something about the ceiling of the fort. “Jax, look up.”
He does so and notices that the ceiling of the fort appears like the night sky, full of countless stars. “Since when was the fort ceiling like this?” Jax asked as he repositioned himself so he was laying on his back so he could look upwards.
“Not sure, but it’s a nice feature for the fort.” Pomni also repositions herself so she’s on her back, Jax taking her hand into his and they just lay there for a while, watching the stars sparkle like precious diamonds.
“Pomni,” Jax suddenly spoke, still keeping his eyes up, “could you do me a favor?”
“Of course.” Pomni replies, also keeping her eyes on the stars.
Before he continued, Jax felt shy and nervous over what he was about to reveal to her. Taking a deep breath to calm down, he starts with, “When you and I are alone,” Jax and Pomni look at each other, “could you use feminine pronouns with me? And don't use them around the others until I am ready.”
She could tell what he, well, she meant. Pomni had witnessed one of Jax’s memories, the one with Ribbit promising to help keep her secret and helping Jax feel more comfortable with the fact he is in fact trans.
With this being what Jax wants, Pomni gives him a smile as she moves so she could hover over her partner, her eyes widening slightly. “Jax, I want you to know that whether you are a boy or a girl, I love you, no matter what.”
Her declaration caused happy tears to form in her eyes. “Pomni, thank you.” Jax grabs Pomni’s face to pull her in close enough to kiss again. When the need for air arose and ended the kiss, they once again locked eyes on the other’s all too familiar pair, smiles growing.
They both know one thing felt right; Jax is lucky to have a loving partner in Pomni and she felt the same for her.
