Chapter Text
The start of the start
Fishemi smiles as he swims by Mams side, showing off his new spins and backwards swimming that had taken him ages to learn. Mam laughs, ruffling his final, but warning him not to hurt himself.
Fishemi grins and keeps going with his tricks, rushing ahead and dodging through the floating seaweed, only to stop when a huge thing crashes from the surface of the water.
He let's out a small screech as the think starts thrashing. It's huge, with giant claws that flails everywhere, the small fish desperately tries to dodge the blackened hands. Mam rushes over, panic in her eyes as she tugs Fishemi away from the fray, pushing him away.
"Go find your siblings, make sure they're okay," he nods and starts to swim away, glancing back only to see Mam getting slashed by those huge hands. Fishemis eyes go wide and he sees the things head turn towards him, and red eyes lock on his.
His blood goes cold when he sees those clod dead eyes turn into slits before the thing pushes up and swims out of the water. Fishemi trembles in fear before forcing his fins to work, he swims as fast as he can towards Mams sinking body, reaching out to hold her close, sobbing against her scales.
It feels like hours he stays there, when her tail twitches. Fishemi gasps and pulls back in time to see Mams eyes open, only for his stomach to sink. Her eyes... They're not... They're-
Fishemi doesn't have the time to think as Mam lunges at him, her teeth sharp, fins held out, razor thin. He squeaks and darks to the side, just grazing past her. He shoots away in fear, heart thruming as he weaves through seaweed to get home.
He pushes the pebble working as the door away from the small hole, rounding up his confused baby siblings, and us seeing them out, ordering Sea Giraffe to grab as much food as he can so they can leave.
His about to grab his own pouch to fill when a scream hits through the water. Fishemi swims as fast as he can out of their tiny cave only to see his sister in Mams jaws, his brothers corpses already shredded.
Sea Giraffe is right behind him, only to yell out and rush forwards, trying to calm Mam down, tears already flowing down his face. Fishemi tries to pull back his brother, but not soon enough to keep him from being cut by Mams knife edged fin.
Fishemi doesn't have time to think as he snatches up a small stone, swimming as fast as he can to his crying brother, and smacking Mam against the head so she doesn't grab Sea Giraffe. Fishemi doesn't stop hitting her till her head is half hangging to the rest of her body. Even then he doesn't stop, hitting her between sobs before throwing himself away from the whole thing.
He turns to his baby brother, and pulls him into a hug.
"We're okay, we're okay." He wails, feeling Sea Giraffes heaving chest against him. He hugs tieghter, only to be shoved back, confusion and hurt spikes through him, the anger in Sea Giraffes eyes a harsh slap.
"You killed her."
"W-what?"
"You killed Mam! You murder! You're evil! I hate you, you killed her! You murder!" Sea Giraffe shrieks, before swimming away.
It's the last time Fishemi sees his last living family for years.
