Clouded Souls

Chapter Text

Shouta walked into the school, Hizashi at his side after they had dropped the other students off at the dorms. He stopped, looking over as he heard Nemuri walking towards them.

“Shou! Zashi! What the hell is going on? Why am I suddenly getting flashes of memories with Midoriya in them?”

“Nemuri, calm down. He got hit by a villain while we were at our volunteer project today. The villain sent him to the past, apparently. He’ll be reappearing in the same spot in a week. If my memories are correct, we’ll need to be there for him…”

“Oh god. I-I was hoping it was wrong. That my memories were wrong. I-Is the green bean really Oboro’s soulmate?”

“He is.” Shouta and Hizashi both nodded, gripping each other’s hands. “He’s either going to lose the bond when it happens then, or when he comes back. Neither option is good.”

“You’re right. So, what’s the game plan, boys?”

“We need to talk with Nedzu. Figure out our next steps and go from there. Either way, we’ll be dealing with the aftermath of a broken bond, and a boy whose only friends in the past were us. He’ll need us.”

“Indeed he will, Shouta-kun!” The three heroes jumped as Nedzu popped up beside them. “Midoriya-kun being in the past is not ideal. We will need to discuss a full plan of retrieval shortly. For the time being, what can you tell me of Midoriya-kun’s bond with Shirakumo-kun?”

Shouta raised an eyebrow. “Why do you want to know?”

“Calm down, Shouta-kun. I simply wish to know what type of Soulmate bond they have. Seeing as Midoriya-kun is my personal student, I just want to know so that I’ll be able to help as best I can when he returns.”

He sighed, glancing at Hizashi and Nemuri for confirmation before nodding slightly. “They’re able to hear each other’s thoughts.”

“Oh dear, that is concerning. Thank you for telling me. Now, I’ll inform the other teachers that Midoriya-kun will not be in classes for the next week, at minimum, though it may be longer. I’ll need you to inform his homeroom class of the simple facts. Try to avoid too many details. We don’t need to be telling the students everything. Let Midoriya-kun have his privacy.”

“Understood.”

“We’ll have a meeting over the weekend to discuss the best plan for his re-acclimation upon his return to the present.”

Shouta nodded and left with Hizashi and Nemuri, starting to walk back to the dorms. As they approached the door, they all paused, their faces going grim as a new memory returned to them.

“I’m going to kill All Might.”

“Calm down, Shou. You’ll have a chance to do that later. For now, you need to help Nem and I inform your class that their friend is stuck in the past.”

Shouta sighed softly, looking up at Hizashi. “You’re right. Let’s go.” He walked into the common room, noting a few people standing around, though it seemed like most of the class was in their rooms. “Iida. I need you and Yaoyorozu to gather the class in the common room.”

“Of course, Sir! However, I must inform you that Midoriya never returned from the field trip today!”

“I’m aware. That’s why I need to talk to the whole class. Now hurry. We don’t have time to waste.” Shouta walked over to the table, grabbing a chair and pulling it over to sit in front of the TV once Uraraka had shut it off.

As the class slowly filtered into the common room, Shouta glanced at Hizashi, waiting for the last student to sit down before he spoke. “Now. I’m sure by now you’ve all noticed that we are down one student. During the field trip today, Mic and I failed to protect Midoriya, and he was affected by a villain’s quirk. Midoriya will return in one week. In the meantime, he is safe.”

Uraraka raised her hand, frowning. “How do you know that, sir? Do you know what the quirk he got hit with was?”

“I do. Midoriya was sent back in time by fifteen years. He just so happened to come across myself, Present Mic, Midnight, and one of our friends as we were walking to UA for private lessons. He’s currently with us in the past. And we are gradually getting back memories that were fuzzy for the three of us. We’ll be able to keep tabs on him as he is in the past. However, we will not be sharing those details. Not only are these our own personal memories, they are also Midoriya’s private business. If anyone tries to push for more details than what we give you, I will make you run my parkour course on the hell difficulty. Without your quirk. Understood?”

A chorus of “Yes, Sensei.” could be heard from the nineteen students as they all nodded.

“Good. Now, one thing I will say is that Midoriya may need some space when he returns. We will be playing this by ear, but I need you all to understand this. Present Mic, Midnight, Nedzu and I will likely be the only ones to retrieve him when he returns. Now, return to whatever you were doing. I’ll be in my dorm if anyone needs me.” Shouta stood, watching as most students returned to their rooms before he turned to go to his own, only to be stopped by Bakugou.

“Do you need something, Bakugou?”

“Can we talk?”

“Of course. Do you want to talk in my dorm, or outside, or somewhere else?”

“Y-Your dorm.”

“Okay. Come on.” Shouta led the way to his dorm, walking in quietly. “Do you want some tea, Bakugou?”

“No.”

“Okay. Let’s sit at the table.” He walked over, sitting in his usual chair and motioning for Bakugou to join him. “What did you want to discuss?”

“This whole thing. It has something to do with the nerd’s soulmark, doesn’t it?”

“You know I’m not going to give out Midoriya’s private information.”

“But it does, doesn’t it? He-He’s had a half-colored mark since we were little. I had kinda forgotten about it when he started covering it up, but now this… His mark was half-filled in because his soulmate had already met him, wasn’t it? And when he gets back, he’s going to need space… Y-You know that he’s going to lose his bond when he gets back. His soulmate is dead, aren’t they?”

Shouta sighed, holding back tears before nodding slightly. “I expect you to keep this quiet.” Once Bakugou nodded, he continued. “Midoriya’s soulmate was one of my best friends. He was killed in a villain attack about 4 months into our second year. Midoriya showed up right at the start of our second year. That’s why it’s important that we be ready for anything. We’re getting memories slowly, so we aren’t sure how long he’ll spend in the past before he returns here. Of course, in our time, he’ll only be gone for one week.”

Bakugou sighed, staring down for a few minutes before speaking.“I-I’ll try to keep things calm around here until Deku is back to normal… You all are having to relive the months leading up to losing your friend, so I’ll make sure things don’t get too crazy for you and him.”

“Thank you, Bakugou. I appreciate it. Now go ahead and get back to your classmates.”

Bakugou nodded a bit. “Y-Yeah… Just ummm… When Dek-… When Izuku gets sad, he tends to shut himself off and just- He gets depressed. He doesn’t take care of himself, He doesn’t eat… It’s really bad… Just so you know.” He sighs softly before walking out of the dorm room, leaving Shouta alone.

“Oh god… Izuku, I hope you’ll be alright…”

~Meanwhile~

Deep within Tartarus, Kurogiri sat in his restraints, his form flickering as he felt new information pouring into his head. He watched the new memories as they appeared, his head tilting. ‘Who are these strange teenagers? Why do I know them? Sensei must have removed my memories of them for some reason. But why are they returning?’

He watched closely, eyes narrowing as he saw a green haired boy enter his vision, hand grasping his as he stood from the cloud.

Shirakumo Oboro”

Midoriya Izuku

Who are you? Why do I know your face? Wait… The boy from the USJ. The one who attacked Nomu… Sensei was interested in him… Why is he in these memories?’

Deep in his mind, a voice cried out as the new memories appeared, his consciousness trapped by Kurogiri as he watched the villain focusing on Izuku.

Izuku!! Izuku, I remember you! I’m trying to get control! I swear, I’m trying! But I need you! I need you, Izu!! I’m sorry! I’m sorry… I wasn’t strong enough.
