    Sometimes Izuku wakes up from a dream where his feet are pounding against the sidewalk and his heart is doing a step dance in his chest and he’s pushing, sprinting, desperate to get out, to get away, to get somewhere safe but there is nowhere safe because there never has been and-

    Sometimes Izuku wakes up at three, four, five in the morning and needs to press himself in the back of his closet so he can shut his eyes and feel safe.

    "You- you do know that right?" Iida asks, because he has to. "You know that if we knew you were being mistreated, our whole class would step in if you needed us?"

    Midoriya doesn't turn around. But his head drops, then rises slightly. A nod.

    or, Midoriya learns to trust and lean on his class and teachers after almost a decade's worth of mistreatment
