Chapter Text

The office door opened.

The agent stepped into the hallway.

They readjusted their tie.

Smoothed down their shirt.

Fixed their gloves.

They took a deep breath.

you're okay.

The agent made their way to the office.

Everything else dissolved into static.

Their hand grasped the doorknob, twisting it, and they quickly entered the office, shutting the door behind them.

The intern jumped at the sound of the door closing, snapping him out of their daydream as they almost tripped over a stool.

He looked over to see who had entered, his face beaming at the sight of the agent.

"Oh, agent! Doctor done with ya already?"

They gave a small nod.

"Cool!"

"Want to hear what happened while you were gone? Or you wanna keep reading?"

The agent's eyes flicked towards the book, back to the intern, then to the book again.

"...No, thank you. I'm going to continue reading."

"Oh! Okay, tell me if you ever wanna chat!!" he replied, shrugging and returning to the counter as another visitor walked in.

The agent walked over to their original seat, sitting with calculated precision before picking up their novel, flipping to the page they last remembered reading.

They read the same page over and over, paws never moving once to flip the page.

The agent didn't even know they were doing so.

It wasn't because they couldn't understand it. They understood just fine.

The words just... refused to sink in.

...

The intern groaned, bored of waiting for another visitor.

He got the great idea of hopping over and asking the agent what they were reading.

The yellow bunny leaned over the agent's shoulder, his shadow falling across the page. The cat flinched ever so slightly, their shoulders stiffening.

Turning to look at the grinning intern, they opened their mouth to ask what the rabbit was doing, before being cut off.

"Whatcha reading?"

"...Just a mystery novel."

"Oo! Is it good?"

"...Decent, I suppose."

"Ookay!" And off the intern went, skipping over to the coffee machine.

The yellow bunny poured himself a coffee, taking a swift sip and burning his tongue on the near-scalding drink, causing the intern to let out a small "Eep!" of pain.

The agent's ears flicked, eyes looking over to the intern.

The yellow rabbit caught the agent's stare, coughing awkwardly.

"Ehe, I'm fine! Alsoooo, do ya want coffee?" the bunny asked, his smile never faltering as they waited for the agent's answer.

"...Sure."

The intern made a thumbs-up, reaching for the pot and a mug to pour coffee for the agent.

He brought the coffee over, setting it down on the counter beside the agent.

"Be careful!! It's still really hot!"

The agent nodded in acknowledgement, thanking the bunny.

Their eyes snapped back to the novel.

Secret Agent remained seated on that slightly too tall office chair for who knew how long as the world continued without them.
