Chapter Text
The door slowly creaked open.
“𝘋𝘢𝘻𝘢𝘪..?”
Chuuya had a bad feeling about this. Dazai hadn’t been showing up to work for weeks and suddenly he had even stopped opening Chuuya’s messages.
Chuuya stepped into the dim room. He took one step and—
The metallic scent of blood hit his nose. He looked down where he felt his shoes squelch from liquid underneath them. He followed the trail of blood, his usual bright blue eyes turning pale at the sight in front of him.
“D-DAZAI?!”
Chuuya rushed over to check on his partner in crime.
“No, no, no, no, no, no..”
Chuuya knew Dazai always joked about killing himself but..He had never thought..He never thought he’d actually see the day it happened. Chuuya reached out to check the pulse on Dazai’s wrist, but he was already cold to the touch.
Dazai’s eyes were still open. Chuuya would think that that was the most horrifying thing about this if it wasn’t for the peaceful expression on the dead man’s face.
Drawing in a shaky breath, Chuuya closed the man’s eyes. This..This shouldn’t be that bad. He had seen a dead body before.
𝙎𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙤 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝?
Dazai was dead. Dazai was dead and Chuuya had no idea what to do. His thoughts were in shambles. His breaths came in a bit too fast for his liking. He knew he should calm down but—
But what? This was something he always knew would happen deep down. Why was he fretting over it now? Why hadn’t he stopped it? Why didn’t he check in on Dazai more? Why. Why. Why. Why. WhywhywhywhywhywhywhyWHyWHyWHWyWHyWHy𝙒𝙃𝙔𝙒𝙃𝙔𝙒𝙃𝙒𝙔𝙒𝙃𝙔𝙒𝙃𝙔𝙒𝙃𝙔𝙒WH—
“Why didn’t you tell me..?”
Chuuya waited for a response that would never come before he remembered.
Tears brimmed his eyes. He hadn’t cried in a long time but right now? He felt like breaking down completely. He sobbed.
“Why didn’t you tell me?! I could’ve helped you! You idiot!!” He kicked one of the only lamps lighting the dark room. He was angry. He was so, so angry..but he was also another emotion. One that was much harder for him to identify.
He didn’t waste his time pondering it. He needed to do something. He had to do 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.
Chuuya got out his phone. His thumb hovered over his contacts. He hesitated. He knew he needed to do this. Why couldn’t he do it?
His grip on his phone tightened. His ability unconsciously activated, triggered by his distress.
Dazai was dead and he couldn’t do anything about it. Dazai was dead and he didn’t know how to live without him.
If Dazai was gone, was Chuuya even human anymore? Was he just some numbers of code?
He never got the answer. He never would because the one damn person who could make him believe he was is gone now. Everyone who he had cared about was gone. Taken away from him in the blink of an eye.
First his mother and father, who he hadn’t even known properly; then the Flags, the people who had cared about him and welcomed him with open arms; and now Dazai…The one who had made him believe that he was real. The one who he had loved so much that it was destructive.
He hadn’t noticed when it had happened but tears were running down his cheeks and his shoulders were shaking with every heaved sob that came out of his throat. He hated it. Hated being this pathetic at a time when there was so much to do.
Hate. Hate was all Chuuya felt right now. Hate for the world. Hate for everyone for leaving him alone. Just pure, unrelenting hate.
If he activated corruption right now, who would be there to stop him? No one. No one could stop him from becoming as self destructive as he wished. The one person who could was dead..and Chuuya didn’t think he could live like that.
If Dazai couldn’t have lived, then why should he deserve to? Why should he want to live after this cruel world has caused him such despair over and over and over again?..There was no reason for this injustice and yet it still happened.

Half of Yokohama’s city was destroyed that day. Two promising port mafia members were lost that day in a blink of an eye. Over a hundred casualties were made before the destruction stopped. It would be a long while until this city would ever heal from such darkness.
