Chapter Text
Light bled into the bedroom, a greenish hue from one of their seven suns making its presence known and forcing Yellow to acknowledge that it was daytime, a brand new day ahead of him. He hadn't been able to sleep well that night, he woke up in the middle of the night and no matter how much he thrashed around and squeezed his eyes shut thinking of nothing, his body refused to sleep any longer so now he laid in his fort, tired but not sleepy surely the worst thing you could possibly be.
Yellow's tired eyes were only half open, his head resting in his beloved's chest, his brain fogged and blank, not even a whisper of thought inside. He blinked slowly as if his spirit had escaped his body and was running off somewhere leaving his body an empty husk, the only thing keeping him completely grounded was Blue's chest falling and rising as he slept. Blue looked beautiful sleeping, so serene, so peaceful, though everything Blue did was beautiful in Yellow's mind but maybe that's beautiful Blue is beautiful in general. Yellow carefully reached up and gently put his hand on the other's cheek, brushing a thumb across it, being as careful as possible since Blue is an extremely delicate sleeper a pin dropping could wake him.
Yellow smiled at the sight, his beloved resting like a princess (prince in this case he supposes) in a fairytale, his gentle almost silent snoring being music to Yellow's ears. The cowboy wonders how he and Blue manage to sleep together, considering how different they were in how they rest, Blue was so delicate and Yellow regularly finds himself on the floor halfway out of bed (and if Seth was right he snores extremely loud). It was a mystery truly, though a part of Blue was a mystery to Yellow in general, the way he holds himself, the way he speaks so poetically it confused the simple man but gosh was it beautyful.
He took a few moments longer to admire his sleeping Blue, like a painting inside those museums that he's been told about, Yellow liked doing this some mornings when he woke earlier than Blue just stare at his lover until he awoke. A part of him always worried it was creepy, he didn't want to make Blue uncomfortable after all, but those woes were brushed away the moment his beloved opened his eyes and gave him that sweet precious smile he adored. It makes Yellow ponder, how much of their baby's features will take from Blue, will they gain his soft smile, his gentle loving eyes, or maybe his sharper features like his jaw or glare when upset, maybe they'll gain his beautiful textured hair or his elegant poise or poetic speech.
Now that he thinks about it, Yellow's unsure what features he would want the baby to gain from him, unlike Blue Yellow is just… average. He's tall, maybe they'll get that, but he's also lanky and his bones are a tad more fragile than everyone else's. His hair easily got tangled and frayed, his eyes were big and unintimidating, more like a sad dog’s, and his teeth were wonky with a large gap on his right side. He's far from perfect, not like Blue at all, but Blue always said: “Humans are filled with imperfections and flaws, they're what make our bodies so beautiful in the first place. A unique signifier, we are all the same but never exact.” ; which, truth be told, Yellow didn't fully understand but it was something that stayed in his mind constantly like a lot of things Blue told him.
… Man, Yellow was really hungry.
He huffed as he carefully wiggled his way out of Blue's arms, he debated on if he should wake him, a part of Yellow selfishly wanted to make him get breakfast for him worried about facing the others. But he pushed it down, he wasn't a coward, he knew this. Plus Blue deserves his beauty sleep, he's surprised Yellow with food enough it's time Yellow returned the favor.
Creeping out into the hallway, Yellow didn't care about changing clothes or brushing his hair believing nobody would even see him, he did take his hat though he never goes anywhere without it after all. He made his way towards the kitchen pondering what to make for Blue and him, it's definitely early enough that nobody should be awake so he'd have to cook himself which… didn't go well last time. Yellow shivered at the memory of nearly burning down the whole kitchen, he got temporarily banned from cooking because of that, it was lifted a while back but he still hasn't touched it because of that guilt. Green scolding is much scarier than you could ever imagine.
The castle was empty, no chatter of the citizens talking or sound of them walking through the halls- not even Yellow made a sound due to his lack of boots just wearing socks (which he sleeps in. It's not weird he swears despite how much he's teased for it, it's comfortable darnit!). Yellow felt a tad unnerved by the silence, making him be on his guard despite knowing he's not in danger.
However what was more unnerving was when he reached the cafe doors, his hand grabbed onto the doorknob but paused when he heard… talking? The other flowers' voices were muffled by the barrier between them, Yellow was confused- they shouldn't be awake yet!! He pinched himself before wincing softly, ok so he's not secretly sleeping.
He glanced around, he didn't want to walk back to bed because he's still very hungry but he didn't know if he wanted to see anybody right now. After a moment of thought he grabbed the doorknob again, cracking open the door ever so slightly so he could peak inside.
The rest of the flowers, with the exception of Flowery who was likely doing dishes considering the running water, were gathered at the table surrounding a large basket, Yellow couldn't see what was inside due to Green being in the way. They were all in their pajamas still as well, everyone looking as if they were at a sleepover instead of breakfast, it was common for one or two of them to not fully change for breakfast (usually Aqua and Pink) but everyone seemed strange as if they had done this purposefully.
Everyone was speaking in a hushed voice, so Yellow leaned closer trying his best not to make any noise so attention wasn't drawn to him, he wasn't the best at being sneaky but he'd do his best.
He couldn't catch the beginning of the sentence but he heard Orange speaking. “........Even like? I've never seen one of ‘em before! Do they just like… normal stuff or?”
“I don't think babies are complex enough to understand normal concepts...” Seth said, flipping through a book.
“But me and Aqua understand that kinda stuff! Why wouldn't they?”
“You guys aren't babies!! You're kids! Babies are different. See!” Seth presumably showed Orange the book, Yellow suspected that it must be some child care book.
“Uuu… Are they gonna be a baby foreverrr?” Aqua asked, she was messing with something that made noise in her hands.
“Nobody is a baby forever!.. I think.”
“I'm with Seth, they'll probably just age until they just stop, like you!” Pink said, petting Aqua's head. “Maybe they'll stay little forever or they'll grow bigger like their dads… but truthfully I want them to stay a baby forever, they'd be so cute, mew!~” Pink giggled making Aqua giggle with her.
“Uu I want a new playmate too!! Do you think they'll like knives!”
“DON'T GIVE THE BABY A KNIFE!” Seth yelled.
“Heyy I never said I'd give them oneee… right away! I'm nice, I'll ask, I'll ask!” Aqua hopped up and down.
Green seemed to reach over and take what Aqua had, Yellow saw it was… a rattle? It looked hand painted with a pastel yellow and blue color scheme, it actually looked like Aqua herself painted it. Green placed it inside the basket, he tried tilting his head to see it better but all he could see was some decorative flowers that were inside, different shades of yellow with a few shades of blue as well… he hoped those weren't special flowers, he didn't want to lock up his friends for stealing!
Green then pulled out a sign which Yellow couldn't read which was a tad frustrating, but surely context clues will help…
“Of course he will! Who doesn't like gifts!” Pink said. “Plus all this stuff is gonna be useful later so they don't gotta worry about it, though I do gotta ask Flowery about a few of the bigger things..”
“But is it gonna be enough?” Seth sighed. “We messed up really badly…”
“Yellow's not a grudge guy I'm sure it'll be okay!... Hopefully.” Orange frowned at the floor. “I don't want him to be mad at us forever…”
Ah. Right. He should've suspected this is what they were talking about, it was obvious. They were guilty about last night at dinner, it makes sense none of them had argued like that before, sure there were times they didn't get along or had small squabbles but never full blown arguments. A part of Yellow felt guilty as well, maybe it's just a leftover of him being guilty about everything though, but he never wants his family to think he hates them or that he's mad. No matter what happens or how criminal they act, he loves them, they love him, they never meant harm about what happened. They shouldn't feel like doing something big to make it up to him, did they really think he was that type of person? One who held grudges and never let go? Or that he was somebody selfish enough to need material possessions to make up for their makeshift crimes?
Before Yellow could go too heavily in his spiral, he had accidentally let go of the doorknob; its lack of stability led the door to slowly open with a loud awkward creaking noise. All the flowers looked to the doorway, Yellow quickly stood up straight staring at everyone else, he gave them a nervous smile trying not to seem like he was just eavesdropping.
“Oh uh- howdy y'all! What'cha all up to so early?” His voice slightly wavered but he tried to act regularly.
Everyone blinked for a minute before suddenly they were surrounding him, giving him sad apologetic eyes, Aqua and Orange even holding onto each of his hands.
“WE'RE SO SORRY YELLOW!!” Everyone yelled in unison. (Even Green's sign was loud… somehow.)
Yellow felt his head spin. “W-Wha-”
“We didn't want to upset you with what happened yesterday!!” Orange started.
“We shouldn't have yelled so much.. We must've stressed you out, we're so so sorry!” Pink continued.
“Uuu.. We didn't mean to spread it around..” Aqua added.
“You shouldn't have had to tell us like that… “ Seth said.
‘You deserved to tell us on your own time. We're sorry.’ Green concluded.
“H-hey! I ain't holdin' it ‘gainst y'all… It's fine, really! Don't worry ‘bout it.” Yellow waved his hands about while talking
“Guys give him space to breathe!” Flowery had appeared, surprisingly he too was wearing his pajamas. “Plus don't you have something else to give him?”
The flowers shuffled away, Green turned to grab the basket from the table and walked up to Yellow placing it in his hands. It was a gift basket, having fake yellow and blue flowers inside that were being crushed by multiple baby related items. Yellow sifted through the items, a “how to care for babies” book, a hand-painted rattle, a few tiny onesies with flower patterns, a nightlight and a hand sewn plushie of a butterfly.
“Uh- Flowery also has a few more useful things for you guys later..” Seth said with a nervous smile.
Yellow stared down at the items then back up at the flowers, back and forth back and forth mouth agape. His body shivered as tears quickly spilled from his eyes, sniffles and hiccups coming from his throat, he shifted the basket to one arm and he attempted to wipe his tears away.
“O-Oh no!!” Orange stammered. “Awe jeez we messed up again he's crying!! Were our gifts really that bad!?”
“No! No no…” Yellow grinned through his sobs. “Just… oh y'all are too sweet…Yew didn't have'ta do all this fer lil' ole me…”
“Of course we did! We did something terrible to you.. You deserve a proper apology!” Pink said, everyone nodding alongside her.
Flowery approached Yellow, taking out a handkerchief to help rid his brother of his tears. “You don't gotta be so humble all the time Yellow, you deserve some good from yesterday's chaos.”
“Awe shucks but… I feels a lil' bad fer y'all wakin' up so early just ta make this…”
“Actually, as far as I'm aware everyone woke up early for unrelated reasons.” Flowery chuckled. “Seems like nobody could sleep properly last night, so don't sweat it man!” He tugged at Yellow's cheek making the cowboy laugh.
The door slowly opened, everyone turning their attention to the last flower groggily walking into the cafe drool still on his chin. Blue rubbed his eyes and paused, staring at everyone else who were also staring at him.
“Am I… interrupting something..?” Blue said while rubbing his eyes. “Why is everyone…”
Blue was cut off by Yellow moving in front of him. “Sugar look at what everyone made fer us!!” He showed his lover the gift basket.
“Oh! Why, how lovely..” Blue smiled, looking over at all the items inside.
Yellow and Blue chatted to each other, occasionally the others would butt in to add something about the gift they picked out. Flowery watched with a smile, glad his family was getting along again, he hated when they disagreed he hated fighting, from his memories they never went well always ending in mental injury, distrust, agony. His face wrinkled ever so slightly at the thought of everyone staying mad at each other for even a moment longer, the concept made his blood turn to ice.
He was snapped out of his thoughts by Pink tapping his shoulder, he leaned down slightly to hear what his sister had to say, she whispered ideas into his ear making him get a lightbulb over his head which he quickly flicked away before clapping his hands loudly to get attention.
“Is anybody else hungry? We should get breakfast! Then later we should meet in the middle of the castle- Pink gave me a great idea! I'll come get everyone when she's done preparing!”
Everyone agreed with head nods and words, Green clapped their hands together and pulled out their frying pan. This breakfast felt oddly special, all of them extra early in the morning in their pajamas, eating together. Like a normal non flower family would on special occasions, and they suppose it is somewhat special.
Flowery makes a mental note of getting everyone to do this more often.
————
It was still early in the day, almost everyone was gathered in the middle of the castle with the exception of Pink, Aqua, and Orange. Flowery was leaning on the large vine in the middle, Seth was in the middle of the recent book they've been reading, Green was wiping down their frying pan, Blue and Yellow were in the middle of a small conversation Blue checking to make sure his beloved was feeling alright.
Suddenly Pink dropped from the top, hitting the ground with an elegant post with her hands hidden behind her back. She bounced back up, she scanned to make sure everyone was there, when she didn't see Flowery she turned to see him still leaning there, when they made eye contact she gave him a glare with a loud hiss. Flowery laughed and rushed to stand with everyone else in front of her. Pink smiled then cleared her throat.
“So! As we all know there's going to be a new flower soon.” She started gesturing to Yellow, the cowboy gave a bashful look. “BUT! I have concerns, you see I know how babies work and I know that babies…ARE STUPID! and love dangerous stuff, which is terrible for them, because they're delicate. But fret not! We have conducted a brilliant plan! We're going to baby proof this ultra dangerous castle, mew!~”
The other flowers nodded along, but Seth raised their hand. “Uhm… where's Aqua and Orange?”
“So glad you asked, mew!~” Pink revealed her hands, Orange sitting in her left and Aqua standing in her right, both wearing pink sparkly bike gear. “These two are going to be our test subjects to make sure it's fully protected, because babies are tricky, but they're also WEAK! and don't know how to open gates and locks.”
The two jumped off of her hands as Pink continued. “Groups of four will be going to each side, Orange will lead the left, Aqua the right. And they get to pick, so make sure not to fight you two! I've also made sure to get all the stuff we may potentially need and more!” Pink then pulled out two bags from behind her and dropped one near each girl. “Just don't ask how they work, mew! Cat's secret, mew!~” Pink's body added.
Everyone nodded in agreement, so Orange and Aqua began picking their teams Pink making sure they didn't start fighting over people. After plenty of debates their teams were decided: Orange, Flowery, Pink, and Yellow to the left - Aqua, Seth, Green, and Blue to the right. While Yellow and Blue were a tad worried about being separated they told everyone it was completely fine.
So the teams departed, deciding to give themselves five hours to get everything all in order then regroup at the cafe! Great plan! Nothing could go wrong!!
————
The right side of the castle was in desperate need of safety guards, nobody here was any professional in that case but the amount of ledges that led to certain doom for anybody that couldn't float was insane, Aqua didn't even have any chances to be a test subject because of how glaring everything was. Though that didn't stop her from hurling herself off every other edge and having to get brought back up before excitingly shouting “Unsafe! Unsafe!”.
Currently they were barricading one specific room that had absolutely no walls, Seth was telling some of their workers to help which they were always excited to do, Green was helping Aqua set some up and making sure they didn't break. Blue… Blue was working obviously, however his mind was busy on something else, a dance of fear of uncertainty of doubt all intertwining together in one disturbing gross ballet that plagued his mind no matter how much he tried to rid of it.
“Blue?”
The dancer jumped lightly at Seth's voice, turning his head to look at the younger flower.
“Ah hello Seth dear, is everything alright?” He gave them a simple smile.
“You just look like you're thinking really hard about something, do you.. Wanna talk about it?”
Blue blinked for a moment before shaking his head. “Oh no Seth dear, I do not wish to burden you with such things, little ones like you shouldn't be shouldered with such thoughts that adults like I have.”
“I'm not a child!” Seth huffed. “I can handle adult stuff like that, isn't it better to talk to somebody than- bottle it all up?”
“I suppose..” He hummed. “However I am just dwelling on the future and the little one, regular woes of a soon to be parent, so I don't believe you should be too worried about it Seth dear.” He reached over and ruffled their hair making Seth whine and complain.
Truthfully there was more to it than just a simple future parental role, Blue would never admit it but his overthinking may rival his beloveds with how far it can spiral downwards into depreciation, he just happens to have a different way to express it all, though this causes trouble when a lone butterfly continues to rest itself on him refusing to leave. A constant signal about his current mindset.
Seth was about to say something again when Aqua's voice caught their attention, Blue turned to see Seth rushing after her as she hurled herself off of another ledge summoning a flower to go after her. Blue let out a soft chuckle as he put his attention back towards what he was doing beforehand, finishing up placing the last fixture down before turning, jolting when he saw Green standing there.
“Green!- goodness dear don't scare me like that again..”
Green shrugged before pulling out a sign.
‘You okay? I heard you and Seth talking.’
“I'm alright Green dear…” Blue said, pushing their sign down. “I am sure these feelings will pass.”
Green raised an eyebrow at Blue. ‘If you're worried about something, wouldn't talking help?’
Blue tapped his fingers against his chin. “I… suppose so but… What do I even say…”
‘What's on your mind obviously.’
“Dont get snarky with me.” He chuckled. “Just… I worry about not being good enough of a father, I know I am not cruel or unkind but still these thoughts swirl in my mind like a never ending carousel… yet I am the only one riding it.”
Green nodded along before gesturing for Blue to continue, but he didn't immediately start back up instead sighing softly and turning on his heel resting his arms on the newly placed railing. Green moved to stand next to him.
“Green, could I…Admit something to you?”
They gave him a thumbs up.
“Sometimes my love feels… Strange.”
Green tilted their head, it took a moment for Blue to continue speaking, his nails digging into his hand ever so slightly, a tad painful but kept him grounded to reality and the conversation.
“I know I have so much of it, it makes up my soul and ichor, my life was an act of love after all… however it brings me more woes than it should, is my love faulty? Just a mandatory thought I am forced to give to all, if it is something I give to everyone then what would be left for those I truly adore? Would it be too little for them or too much? Would they wilt due to my lack or affection or will they wilt because my love is too suffocating?” He took a second to pause, taking a breath. “I know Yellow can handle such a thing, his mind wavers like chaos as does my love, but will the little one be able to handle such a crushing burden I wonder…”
Green didn't respond, just put a hand on Blue's back patting it softly. Blue gave them a smile, maybe words weren't necessary in this situation, just the embrace of another soul to help keep his mind in a better place. His mind rolled over everything again, he needed to talk with Yellow about it later surely…
“GREEN! BLUE!” Seth's voice caught their attention, turning to see Seth and Aqua in the doorway. “Come on we got things to do we can't keep standing around!”
“I'm gonna go test out the next room!” Aqua said before running off.
“Wha- N-No wait, come back!!!”
Seth ran over Aqua, Green and Blue walking into the hallway after them. Green was quick to catch up to the two but Blue fell behind, further and further his mind being more important than the task, quite selfish of him really but he did not get upset at it, selfishness is just another form of love after all.
When he came too he realized he had walked ahead of them actually, hearing their voices in a room behind him. He stared behind him before his eyes relocated their gaze downwards.
“Blue?”
The dancer didn't flinch, just raised his head to look at Seth. He was quick to reply, making an excuse for himself and his actions.
“I'm going to go check up ahead, you three seem to have everything handled after all and I…need a moment to myself.”
Seth glanced away for a second before looking back. “Okay just.. Don't do anything stupid alright?”
“Of course dear.” Blue bowed as a goodbye before turning and walking off.
He did what he said he would, checking rooms placing items where they needed to be, but it all felt robotic as if his body was moving on its own. No semblance of his usual grace as he worked, just a mechanical knowledge of what he had to do. His mind other places outside of his mortal form.
Such a strange thing, mind and love were to him…
————
The left side of the castle didn't need much renovation unlike the right, considering one of its main purposes IS being dangerous to even regular folks, but there were still some things that needed fixing such as thorned vines or large ledges. Pink and Orange were testing out safety fixes while Flowery and Yellow were cutting down some of the vines or ridding them of their sharpness, all while making sure to be careful around Blue's flowers.
Yellow wasn't paying much attention to the task at hand, his brain focusing on other things at the moment- or well his brain was TRYING to focus on one thing but he kept shoving it down thinking about anything else. His eyes continually flickering towards the direction of the punishment room, he tried filling his mind with thoughts of things that made him happy, like flowers or butterflies or cowboy stuff.
“YELLOW! YELLOW!” Orange's shouting snapped his attention to her direction, she was hopping up and down pointing at some newly added railings. “Does this look good!?”
Yellow took a second to squint and inspect it before giving her a thumbs up. “Looks purty darn good ta me!”
Orange beamed rushing over and hopping on his head. “Awesome! Pink said we got this area covered- you almost done here bro?”
“I'unno…” Yellow mumbled looking at the thorns, he felt Orange getting lifted from his head and a hand being placed on his shoulder. He turned his head to look down at Flowery who was standing there now.
“Hey Orange, how about you and Pink go ahead of us yeah? Don't worry about us, we've got everything covered!” Flowery said.
“Oh okay!” Orange hopped off his hand. “but you two better not lag behind us too far!!”
The younger flower ran off, yelling at Pink to follow after her which she did, waving the other two flowers a goodbye. Yellow had returned to his previous task but Flowery didn't, looking at his fellow golden flower his smile falling.
“Hey Yellow…” Flowery's tone made Yellow turn his full attention to him. “You good?”
“Of course I am! Why wouldn't I be?”
Flowery opened his eyes, giving Yellow a look. “Come on buddy, I know you, something's troubling you. You can talk to your big brother Flowery!”
Yellow thought for a moment, fiddling with the item in hand before sighing. “I've just been… Thinkin' ‘bout.. A few things… I-I really shouldn't trouble ya like this-”
“What if I want to be troubled by it?”
The cowboy stayed quiet, tilting his hat downwards. “ ‘m just worried ‘s all…”
“About what?”
“Y'know… Bein' good ‘nough fer them…” Yellow pulled the jacket he was wearing closer to him. “I don'ts wanna be sum terrorbell father… I knows I ain't good at a lotta stuff…”
“Oh come on Yellow… you're going to be a great dad.” Flowery patted Yellow's back.
“I'unno… what if I do sumthin’ stupid and hurt ‘em!? Or I… get too caught up in mah head and…” Yellow left his sentence unfinished, but Flowery knew exactly what was on the other's mind.
“Yellow.” Flowery forced the cowboy to fully face him. “I understand that you're not always the most… sound of mind person, far from it actually sometimes, but I also know you better than-...okay maybe not better than anybody that's Blue but I know you pretty damn well. And I know that even despite your tendencies you would never do something like that to your kid.”
“But-”
“Do you ever punish yourself when you have plans with Orange or Aqua? Or…anybody really?”
“N-No course nawt!”
“Then why would this be any different?”
Yellow opened his mouth to reply but fell silent, his head falling to look at the floor. Flowery kept his eyes on Yellow, a hand still on his shoulder.
“I know you're scared but you're stronger than you know, mentally I mean we all know you're physically scary strong.” He chuckled. “You'll be a great dad, plus you have Blue and everyone else by your side!”
The cowboy kept his eyes glued to the floor for a few more moments before lifting his head ever so slightly giving Flowery a small smile.
“Thanks a'million…”
“No problem!” Flowery smiled back letting go of Yellow. “Let's go follow the girls before Orange starts calling us chibis!”
Yellow laughed dryly as Flowery began walking away. Yellow went to follow but stopped when his head dizzed, he placed a hand on his forehead as his breathing began getting rugged, he hunched over ever so slightly putting his other hand on his knee. His body felt disgusting, he felt bile coming up his throat but no urge to vomit, sweat sticking to every part of his skin.
He forced himself to sit, the world spun around him like he was stuck on the world's worst carousel all by himself except he didn't have a horse to ride, which probably wouldn't help but it'd be nice to have. He shuffled to lean against the wall, his body feeling as if it was hotter than the sun yet quivered as if it was as cold as winter. He gagged, his vision blurry, he leaned his head back to look at the ceiling as it spun in circles.
“YELLOW!”
Punk's voice made Yellow's ears ring but he turned his head enough towards the direction it came from, seeing Pink, Flowery, and Orange rushing towards him. The taller two sat on each side of him while Orange stayed next to Pink, Flowery and Pink having a hand on his shoulder each.
“I-Is he okay!?” Orange whined seeing Yellow's condition.
“He might've overexerted himself- he is pretty delicate right now..” Flowery muttered.
“But pregnancy doesn't make you THIS delicate!” Pink huffed, placing a hand on Yellow's forehead. “Maybe he's sick too… whatever is wrong he's gotta get some rest!”
Pink carefully moved her arms underneath Yellow, standing and hoisting himself up with her. “Orange! Flowery! Can you two look around to make sure everything is in order for me? I'll wait for you two at the cafe when I finish with Yellow.”
The two nodded, saying something but Yellow tuned them out, his brain becoming complete mush. He felt as Pink ran off with him away from their siblings, he rested his head on her shoulder, it felt nice being carried outside the vileness spreading across his body.
————
Blue didn't go meet with everyone at the cafe that evening, he was still lost in his mind as he walked to his bedroom. However he was snapped out of his thoughts when he entered, expecting it to be empty but instead seeing Yellow lying there curled into a ball.
The cowboy wasn't wearing the get up he had the whole day, instead wearing one of Blue's fancy robes alongside his socks, his clothes were neatly folded on their previous bed with his hat on top.
“Yellow..?” Blue approached his lover with worry.
Yellow groaned, rolling over slightly, his hair sticking to his forehead. He slowly pushed himself up before Blue snatched him, pulling Yellow's head to his chest making the cowboy let out a small “yip!” noise.
“Are you alright!? What's wrong!?” Blue's voice was raised more than usual showing his panic.
“ ‘m fine bluebell…! Just got real dizzy fer a bit so Pink brought me in here ta rest… ‘m feelin' better now..” Yellow's voice sounded a bit weak.
Blue frowned softly. “You better feel better…” he held his lover closer. Yellow chuckled softly. “Do you need anything dearest?”
He thought for a moment before replying. “Could we… Go out fer a minute? I thinks I need sum fresh air…”
The dancer nodded, not wasting a moment to pick Yellow up, making the cowboy make another cute “yip!” noise, he giggled a little before walking out with him.
Blue was quick on his feet to leave the castle, walking from where their bedrooms were to a part of the castle they rarely went to during their usual days. Slowly a door opened to the outside a large garden that resides inside the castle, it was always stagnant it seems the flowers would softly blow in the air yet there was never more or less of them, the water ran through the waterfall and stream but no matter what was placed inside it never seemed to alter its flow. This area wasn't usually used by the flowers unless for special occasions, the last time either could remember being here was when Pink was officially indoctrinated into the family, they had a pleasant picnic ending with everyone soaked in water.
The two sat on the soft grass surrounded by different colored flowers all of which were shades of blue, yellow and green. The dancer had his lover inside of his lap which the cowboy didn't detest, it was always nice to be in this position no matter who was in whose lap.
Yellow took a deep breath of the air around them, it wasn't all too different from the air inside the castle however the context made it more refreshing, it helped clear his head ever so slightly from the buzz inside of it. He leaned his head to be on top of Blue's having to shift himself to do so, Blue giggled ever so softly.
The silence between the two was comforting, just being in each other's presence away from everyone else. It wasn't the first time they had done such a thing, it was a regular occurrence really, the two had the tendency to run off for hours at a time just to be by themselves, sometimes they would talk for hours sometimes they'd just bask in one another's presence.
“My love… ?” Blue's voice was hushed, as if he was telling his lover a whisper. “Do you… worry? About… being a parent…”
“... Yeah… I dew..” Yellow returned the hushed tone Blue had. “I worry lots ‘bout it…”
“So do I…”
“... Are we even ready fer it..?”
“I don't think we ever would be…” Blue looked down at Yellow. “But I am not upset at such a thing, the world is an ocean inside of a storm full of uncertainty and we are just sailors that must survive its harsh tides in hopes to see the oncoming clearness…”
“.. We ain't sailors though?...”
Blue chuckled. “It's a metaphor buttercup, what I mean is that we are never ready for anything but we must adapt for it regardless.”
“Ohh!” Yellow thought for a moment. “Yer right… ‘m scared but excited, I'unno if we'll be good parents but…We just gotta try ‘n do our best!”
“You are right my love…” Blue brushed a hand through Yellow's hair.
The two sat in silence again, the sound of running water filling the air for them. Butterflies around them that weren't Blue's for once, made of many shades and sizes, the tranquility was nice.
They didn't need to know everything, their worries exist and will stay alive for a long long while but it's not a bad thing. Worry is a part of human nature is it not? Nature will run its course and they must survive, but they'll survive hand in hand surrounded by those who’ll love them no matter what. Their thoughts were calmed for the time, even once they return it'll be less than before, they'll get through it.
The quiet was nice..
“... If I wore a pirate hat woulds I become a sailor then? Or would I be a cowboy in a pirate hat?... Or woulds I become both?” Yellow thought out loud.
Blue snorted at the suddenness. “Pfft- I suppose it won't depend on what you decide.”
“Hmm.. Well I think I'd wanna be a cowboy in a pirate hat!... Unless yew wanted ta be a pirate then I'd be a pirate cowboy!”
“Wouldn't that make us both criminals then?”
Yellow stammered. “I-uh-we-.. W-Well it wouldn't be a crime if yous were doin' it to…”
“You're so cute and silly~” Blue booped Yellow's nose making him giggle.
The two then began to talk about situation or possibility, nothing scary however only non serious fantasies which was actually uncommon for them. Usually Yellow would end up spiraling over something then they'd have to talk about anything else, the concept of Yellow getting better was wonderful and Blue being able to keep up with his mind for once…
… They'll be okay. No- better than okay.
They'll be good.
