Chapter Text
The heavy bedroom door remained shut for most of the afternoon, acting as a solid barrier between their quiet bubble & the rest of the penthouse. Inside, the room was entirely warm, smelling faintly of clean linen, coffee, & the familiar vanilla scent of Juhoon’s favorite hair serum.
Juhoon was curled up on his side, his body completely buried under the weight of the heavy duvet. He was still wearing James’s oversized black hoodie, the extra fabric bunching up around his chin as he slept. James sat right beside him, propped up against the pillows with his laptop resting on his thighs, quietly reviewing some choreography notes from their performance director. Every few minutes, his eyes would drift away from the screen just to look down at the boy resting beside him.
Juhoon let out a soft, tiny whine in his sleep, his brows furrowing slightly as he shifted. The movement sent a lingering wave of soreness through his lower body, a stark reminder of how intensely he had ridden out his release against James in the back of the van the night before.
Recognizing the restless movement, James immediately set his laptop down on the nightstand. He slid down the mattress, closing the small distance between them, & wrapped his long arms securely around Juhoon’s waist. He pulled the younger boy’s back flush against his chest, tucking his chin right into the crook of Juhoon’s neck.
"Shh, I've got you, Jju," James murmured, his voice a low, gravelly morning rumble against Juhoon’s skin. "Go back to sleep, sweet boy."
The moment James's solid warmth anchored him, Juhoon’s entire body went loose. He let out a deep, contented sigh, his fingers instinctively reaching back to tangle into the hem of James’s shirt. He didn't wake up completely, but he nuzzled backward into the embrace, completely yielding & soft in a way he only ever allowed himself to be when they were behind locked doors.
James smiled against his skin, pressing a sweet, lingering kiss right to the sensitive spot behind Juhoon’s ear. He kept his large hands flat against Juhoon’s stomach, tracing slow, comforting circles over the thick fabric of the hoodie to ease the lingering tension in his muscles.
By the time the late afternoon sun began to dip, painting the bedroom walls in deep shades of amber & violet, Juhoon finally began to wake up. His eyes fluttered open slowly, heavily hooded with residual fatigue. He felt incredibly lazy, his limbs heavy & warm as he blinked against the soft light.
"Jamie-hyung..." Juhoon whispered, his voice incredibly thick & raspy from sleep.
"I'm right here, my angel," James replied softly, his face just inches away on the pillow. He reached up, his thumb gently wiping away a stray eyelash from Juhoon’s cheek. "Did you sleep well?"
Juhoon hummed softly, turning around in the hold so he could look directly at him. His face was slightly puffy from the long nap, his cheeks a natural, dusty pink, & his hair was a beautifully messy halo of ruffled strands. He looked entirely vulnerable, stripped completely of the sharp, charismatic main vocalist persona he wore on stage.
"Mmh... too well," Juhoon mumbled, hiding his face right in the center of James’s chest, his nose nudging against his collarbone. "My legs feel like jelly."
James let out a low, incredibly fond laugh, his chest vibrating pleasantly against Juhoon’s cheek. He wrapped his arms tightly around his waist, pulling him so close there wasn't a single inch of space left between them.
"That's because you worked incredibly hard last night, precious," James teased softly, his lips brushing the crown of Juhoon's head. "You deserve to be lazy today. Come on, let's get you some water."
Padding out into the living room was a slow process. Juhoon refused to take off the oversized hoodie, the sleeves completely hiding his hands as he walked a step behind James, his bare feet sliding quietly across the polished hardwood floor. He was still half-asleep, his eyes blinking slowly as the bright afternoon light of the open-concept apartment hit him.
The rest of Cortis was scattered across the massive sectional sofa. Martin & Keonho were in the middle of a quiet video game match, while Seonghyeon was stretched out on the lounge chair, a laptop balanced on his knees as he went through fan edits from the concert.
The moment Juhoon walked into the room, the atmosphere shifted. The members looked up, ready to drop another round of relentless kitchen teasing, but the words immediately died in their throats.
Juhoon looked incredibly soft. He was moving in slow motion, his shoulders slumped relaxed inside the giant black hoodie that practically swallowed him whole. His eyes were small, heavy with sleep, & his lips were parted in a tiny, unconscious pout as he pulled the long sleeves over his knuckles. There was absolutely no defense up he looked like a sleepy toddler wandering out of bed, completely radiating a quiet, gentle warmth.
Martin dropped his controller onto the sofa cushion, his jaw softening instantly as a fond, quiet smile replaced his usual mischievous smirk.
"Oh, wow," Martin whispered, his voice dropping significantly so he wouldn't startle the younger boy. "Look at our main vocal. He’s completely out of it."
Keonho leaned back, a soft, rare look of pure affection crossing his face as he watched Juhoon slide onto the very edge of the couch right next to James. "He looks so tiny in that hoodie, hyung. Did he just wake up?"
"Mmh," James murmured, completely ignoring the members as he pulled a soft, plush throw blanket off the back of the sofa & draped it entirely over Juhoon’s shoulders. He sat down right next to him, & without a single second of hesitation, Juhoon collapsed sideways, resting his heavy head right in James's lap.
Juhoon let out a soft, whiny grunt, curling his knees up onto the cushions as he buried his face into James’s thigh, completely blocking out the rest of the room.
Seonghyeon closed his laptop slightly, looking over at the pair with a quiet, knowing expression. The teasing from earlier was entirely gone, replaced by the deep, unspoken camaraderie that kept the group together. They all knew how brutal the world tour schedule was, & seeing their usually stubborn, perfectionist vocalist this completely relaxed & cared for was a relief to all of them.
"He really crashed after the encore, didn't he?" Seonghyeon asked quietly, his eyes fixed on the way Juhoon’s shoulders rose & fell in a slow, rhythmic pattern against James’s leg.
"Yeah," James replied softly. He brought his large hand down, his long fingers gently sliding into the messy, dark strands of Juhoon's hair, untangling the knots with practiced, soothing motions. "His system just completely shuts down when the adrenaline drops. He needs the rest."
Juhoon let out a tiny, contented hum at the feeling of James's fingers massaging his scalp, his body sinking even deeper into the plush cushions. He didn't care that the rest of the members were watching them; he felt entirely safe, wrapped up in James’s scent & the quiet comfort of their shared home.
Martin smiled softly, picking his controller back up & turning the volume of the television down to a low murmur. "Let him sleep here then. We'll keep it quiet."
James nodded, his eyes dropping back down to the boy resting in his lap. He leaned down slightly, pressing a quiet, unseen kiss to the soft fabric of the hoodie covering Juhoon's shoulder.
"Sleep well, my sweet boy," James whispered, his hand continuing its slow, rhythmic strokes through Juhoon’s hair as the lazy afternoon carried them toward the evening.
The quiet warmth of the living room felt entirely undisturbed as the sun finally disappeared behind the city skyline, leaving the penthouse bathed in a peaceful twilight. The low clacking of Martin & Keonho’s controllers acted like white noise, perfectly matching the low, rhythmic rise & fall of Juhoon’s chest where he lay completely dead to the world across James’s lap.
James hadn't shifted an inch. His long fingers were still buried in Juhoon's messy dark hair, occasionally mapping out slow, soothing patterns over the younger boy’s scalp just to keep him grounded in his sleep. Every now & then, Juhoon would let out a tiny, soft sigh, his nose twitching against the denim of James’s jeans as he burrowed deeper into the familiar scent. The main dancer’s heart swelled at the sheer vulnerability of it all on stage, Juhoon was a powerhouse, but right here, he was just his precious Jju.
The front door suddenly clicked, the electronic lock chiming softly before the heavy oak frame swung open.
Their head manager stepped into the foyer, balancing three massive, stacked cardboard boxes of late-night fried chicken & tteokbokki in his arms. The rich, spicy aroma of garlic, gochujang, & crispy batter hit the room instantly, cutting right through the quiet vanilla scent of the living room.
"Delivery," the manager called out in a low, hushed voice, knowing better than to blast the room with noise after a stadium weekend. "Company card covered it. Eat up & make sure you clean the kitchen before tomorrow’s call time."
"Chicken!" Keonho practically scrambled over the back of the sofa, his video game completely abandoned as his stomach let out a loud, traitorous rumble. "Hyung, you are an actual lifesaver. I was about to start chewing on the couch cushions."
Martin was already on his feet, helping slide the boxes onto the low coffee table in front of the sectional. "Seonghyeon, get the sodas. If I don't get sugar in my system right now, I'm going to pass out on the rug. And make sure they're cold!"
Seonghyeon emerged from the kitchen corridor, balancing a handful of napkins, small plates, & a few cans of pear juice. "Relax, Martin. I’ve got it covered. Don't go wild & knock the boxes over before we even get plates out."
The sudden flurry of movement, the low chatter, & the unmistakable, mouth-watering smell of hot food did exactly what James knew it would. Juhoon’s eyelashes fluttered, his brow furrowing as he let out a distinctly whiny, raspy groan. He rubbed his face aggressively against James’s thigh, trying to block out the sudden noise of his members.
"Jamie..." Juhoon mumbled, his voice thick with deep sleep as his fingers tangled blindly into the hem of James’s shirt. "Too loud. Tell them to go away."
"I can't go away, Jju, I have the food," Keonho shot back, already prying open the first box of garlic-soy chicken with an eager grin. "Wake up, lazybones. You sang the most high notes last night, your throat needs the grease. Besides, if you don't wake up, I'm eating your share of the sweet potato crust."
James let out a quiet, incredibly fond chuckle, his hand sliding down to rest flat against Juhoon’s lower back, rubbing sweet, comforting circles through the thick fabric of the oversized hoodie.
"Come on, sweet boy," James whispered, leaning his head down until his lips were brushing the shell of Juhoon’s ear. "Time to wake up, my angel. If we don't eat now, Keonho is going to inhale all the drumsticks, & you know how much you like the spicy ones."
Juhoon let out one last dramatic, lengthy sigh before slowly pushing himself up into a sitting position. He looked incredibly small & soft, his eyes heavily hooded & blinking rapidly against the dim twilight of the living room. The giant black hoodie sleeves completely covered his hands as he tucked his legs beneath him on the cushions, his lips formed into a permanent, sleepy pout.
Seonghyeon dropped a can of cold pear juice into Juhoon’s lap, dropping down onto the floor rug with a paper plate. "Look at him. He’s still eighty percent asleep. Someone feed him before he drops his head straight into the tteokbokki sauce & ruins James's hoodie."
"I am awake," Juhoon protested weakly, though the effect was entirely ruined when he leaned his entire body weight sideways, resting his shoulder heavily against James’s chest. He stared blankly at the steaming food boxes, his brain clearly still struggling to catch up with his body.
"Sure you are, sweetheart," James teased softly, his arm automatically wrapping around Juhoon's waist to hold him steady.
He didn't care that the rest of Cortis was watching them so closely. He picked up a piece of the crispy, golden chicken, carefully checking to make sure it wasn't too hot before holding it right up to Juhoon’s lips. Juhoon didn't even hesitate—he leaned forward & took a bite straight from James’s fingers, chewing slowly with his eyes half-closed, completely trusting & sweet.
Martin paused, a piece of pickled radish halfway to his mouth as he stared at the two of them. A slow, knowing smirk spread across his face, but instead of the loud, relentless teasing from the kitchen earlier that day, his tone was surprisingly soft, filled with the deep camaraderie of a group that had spent years in the trenches together.
"Seriously though, you looked great during the encore last night, Juhoon," Martin said, gesturing with his chopsticks toward the center platter. "The fans were losing their minds during your bridge. Your vocals were absolutely insane. Even if you look like a sleepy, tiny kitten right now."
"A very whiny kitten," Keonho added, his mouth full of chicken as he nodded in agreement. "But yeah, that high note during the second chorus? Perfection. I almost messed up my blocking because I was listening to you."
Juhoon swallowed his food, his cheeks turning a lovely, deep shade of pink under the sudden praise from his teammates. He hid his face slightly behind the long sleeve of his hoodie, a small, genuine smile finally crinkling his eyes as he leaned closer into James. "Thanks, hyung. You did well too. Your center part during the dance break was incredibly sharp."
"Of course it was," James chimed in smoothly, his voice full of pride as his arm tightened around Juhoon’s waist. "I trained him myself, after all. He better be sharp."
"Hey! I have natural talent, thank you very much!" Martin defended playfully, throwing a crumpled napkin at James, which James caught effortlessly with his free hand, laughing softly.
Seonghyeon cracked open his soda can, looking over at Juhoon with a gentle expression. "How are your legs feeling today, Jju? That stage floor was harder than usual last night, & the choreography for the transition took a toll on everyone's knees."'
Juhoon peeked out from James's shoulder, his voice quiet but grateful. "A bit sore, Seonghyeon-hyung. But Jamie-hyung ran a warm bath for me earlier, so it's much better now."
Keonho nudged Martin's shoulder, winking conspicuously. "Oh, a warm bath? How luxurious. James really pulls out all the stops when our main vocal is tired."
"Eat your chicken, Keonho," James cut in with a broad smirk, though his fingers gently played with the hem of Juhoon's shorts under the blanket, reassuring him.
They spent the next hour like that, a chaotic but incredibly cozy indoor picnic spread across the living room floor & the soft couch cushions. The boundary between their larger than life idol personas & their real selves blurred into something entirely comfortable & safe. They talked about the funny fan signs they’d spotted in the crowd, laughed about Keonho nearly tripping over a stage monitor during the opening track, & quietly checked in on each other’s physical injuries from the intense choreography. Through it all, James kept his hand anchored on Juhoon's thigh under the blanket, a silent, steady presence that Juhoon leaned into without a single drop of his usual backstage hesitation.
By the time the boxes were completely empty & the trash was neatly shoved back into the plastic delivery bags, the penthouse had settled back into a heavy, comfortable quiet. Martin & Keonho had dragged themselves off to their own rooms to shower & unwind, while Seonghyeon turned off the main lights, leaving only the soft, warm glow of the kitchen counter LEDs to illuminate the long hallway.
James looked down at Juhoon, who was once again blinking slowly, his head resting heavily against James’s shoulder as the brief burst of food-induced energy completely faded away into deep fatigue.
"Come on, precious," James murmured, sliding his arms under Juhoon’s thighs & back before Juhoon could even vocalize a protest. He lifted him up effortlessly, carrying him down the dark, quiet hallway toward the absolute privacy of their shared bedroom.
Juhoon didn't fight it for a second. He wrapped his arms tightly around James’s neck, hiding his face in the cool, familiar fabric of James’s shirt as the bedroom door slid shut behind them, the lock clicking securely into place.
The room was pitch black, save for the faint, silver moonlight spilling through the sheer curtains & casting soft patterns on the carpet. James carefully laid Juhoon down on the mattress, sliding under the heavy duvet right beside him before pulling the younger boy flush against his chest, wrapping him in warmth.
For a long time, neither of them spoke. The silence of the room was heavy, thick with the lingering, deep intimacy of the past twenty-four hours. Juhoon let out a soft breath, his fingers tracing the collarbone of James's shirt in the dark, his mind completely clear of the grueling tour stress for the first time in months.
"Jamie-hyung?" Juhoon whispered into the dark, his voice incredibly small, sweet, & vulnerable.
"Mmh? I'm right here, sweet boy," James replied, his hand moving up to stroke through Juhoon’s hair, his fingers exceptionally gentle as he cleared the strands from his forehead.
Juhoon paused, his fingers tightening slightly in the soft fabric of James's shirt as he looked up in the shadows. "Do you ever get scared? About... us? If the company finds out, or if the fans notice how we look at each other on stage during the ending poses?"
James stopped his movements for a brief second, the weight of the question hanging heavily & realistically between them. The idol industry was brutal, a world where a single rumor could shatter years of hard work, sleepless nights, & absolute dedication. They both knew the immense risks they were taking every single time they closed that privacy curtain in the van or locked their bedroom door at night.
James shifted closer on the pillows, pressing his forehead directly against Juhoon’s in the dark, his breath warm & steady against the younger boy’s lips.
"Sometimes," James admitted honestly, his voice dropping into a deep, gritty register filled with absolute, unwavering sincerity. "But then I remember that the stage is just a fraction of my life, Jju. The cameras, the fans, the management... they get James of Cortis. But this? Right here in the dark? This belongs entirely to me. You belong to me, & I belong to you. I would face whatever comes next a hundred times over if it means I get to keep holding you like this, my angel."
Juhoon let out a shaky, emotional breath, a single tear slipping down his cheek that James caught instantly & gently with the pad of his thumb. The sheer, deep depth of James's devotion was completely overwhelming, melting away every single drop of anxiety & heavy tour pressure that had been building up in Juhoon's chest since the world tour first started.
"You say the most ridiculous, romantic things when you're tired, Jamie," Juhoon whispered, though his voice cracked slightly with pure, unadulterated fondness.
"I only say what's true, my precious boy," James countered smoothly, a soft smile touching his lips before he leaned forward to capture Juhoon’s mouth in a deep, agonizingly sweet kiss.
It was a slow, unhurried reassurance of everything they shared away from the flashing stage lights. Juhoon hummed contentedly into the kiss, his arms wrapping tightly around James's neck as he yielded completely, letting himself be held, loved, & cherished in the absolute safety of their private sanctuary until the heavy weight of sleep finally carried them both away into the early morning hours.
