Chapter Text
~AVERY POV~
“Jeez, how long have I been falling… feels like it’s been an hour.” I say while staring out to the pitch black void surrounding me. I would’ve been unnerved by the darkness, and seemingly endlessness of the void if not for the fact that I’ve been falling for God knows how long. And for the fact I ran out of my ADHD meds so the fucks I can possibly give are all out.
Suddenly the void turns to stone walls. “Wait wha-” THUD “Owwww” I whine.
“Avery? Is that you?” A voice says from under me.
“Derek? Y-you’re alive!” I exclaim.
“It seems I am. But uh Avery? Could you please get off of me?” Derek asks.
“RIGHT SORRY!” Avery exclaims heat creeping onto his face. Avery stands up onto the stone floor, then proceeds to help Derek up. “So… uh what happened?”
“After you pushed me into the void, I obviously died and respawned. Then I sprinted back over here to find the door closed. Believe me I tried opening the door but it didn’t work. But how are you alive?” Derek questioned.
“It’s a bit absurd how I survived actually- but uh we should probably leave first. My base isn’t that far from here I think.” And the two of us begin to slowly making our way out of the King’s domain.

“So you’re telling me, that the King in Yellow, Hastur, an Eldritch Deity, let you live because he couldn’t handle you having ADHD?” Derek questioned from across the couch. “Yeah pretty much.” I confirm.
“…”
“…”
“…that’s actually ridiculous-” Derek concludes with a snort. “I actually didn’t even take my meds today either so that helped I guess.” I say. The two of us sit quietly in comfortable silence.
“Hey Avery?”
“Yeah?”
“I have a…question.” Derek begins tentatively.
“Ask away.” I respond.
“Why were you so…well willing to just let the world end for me? Why were you so willing to die?” Derek asks.
“… I don’t know” I say quietly.
“Don’t lie to me Avery.”
“…I guess it was because you cared for me? And well people hadn’t cared for me like that in a while, y’know with me being a slime and all. And I guess I wasn’t really ready to let go of you. The least I could do was make sure you didn’t die alone. Besides, like I said before you’re also my first friend in forever, and I really like you.” I respond looking away. “More than just a friend I mean. It’s fine if you don’t return my feelings or whatever I just wanna stay friends.”
“Aver-” Derek begins, making his way to me before getting cut off
“It’s fine. I don’t know what you saw in me that made me so “special” anyway. There’s really nothing special about me. I’m not smart like you. I can’t solve puzzles. I can’t decode ciphers. I’m just plain old me. Just a boring-”
“Avery.” Derek softly cups my face in his hands guiding my eyes to his. When did he get here? “You didn’t even let me finish silly. I like you too Avery. Almost everything about you is something I love and would willingly give my life for.”
“Almost?” I question.
“I love everything about you except for the part that tells you, you’re not good enough. The part that tells demeans and belittles you into thinking you’re incompetent. I hate that part of you because it means you’ll never see yourself the way I see you. Your brave, loving, kind, stubborn, determined, and I will fight a god and I will crawl up from the pits of the underworld for the chance to love you. You’re perfect to me Avery, and you will never be anything less than that to me.” Derek finished fiercely bringing me onto his lap for a tight embrace.
The two sat in a comfortable silence with Derek rubbing one of his hands in a circular motion on my back, while I let small tears slowly stream down his face, arms laying at Derek’s waist.
“Thank you.” I whispered quietly into Derek’s shoulder.
“Derek?”
“Hm?”
“What does this make us?”
Derek was silent for a moment, pondering before answering and gently tugging on my chin, leading my face upwards. “This makes us whatever you want us to be.” He says, a small smile forming on his face. “May I?” He asks politely. I nod eagerly in response. I let myself be guided into a soft, loving kiss. The kiss was wonderful. It was warm and made me feel seen and loved. My arms wrap around Derek’s neck to bring us closer. We pull away, out of breath and panting.
“I love you Schatz”
“I love you too”
