Chapter Text
"'may i be of assistance?' rather than 'need any help?'
if only it was someone, anyone else
because they were too perfect
too good to be true
he knew he'd fallen
he hopes they'd fall too
it wasn't like a mirror, that would be creepy
more like an old friend who you'd be glad to see
similar people, different fonts
different needs, different wants
confusing, conflicting, emotional turmoil
a loaded crossbow with unknown recoil
caught in the little things, missing the big picture
two people raised to be perfect little fixtures
alone as a runaway, leaving everything behind
alone as a survivor, watching everyone else die
together it could be both love or lies
two minds in a shootout, or two hearts in disguise."
Pyro finished reading his work aloud. Cindy, his audience, was half-asleep on the desk, chirping quietly when he finished. His other audience member was Drift, who gave Pyro a round of applause.
"So... thoughts?" Pyro asked carefully.
"And prayers," Drift replied without hesitation.
"Okay, rude," Pyro said, annoyed.
Drift sighed, standing up and stretching--she'd showed up around an hour ago to apologize for teasing him, thinking she'd crossed a line. While there, she'd found him mid-crisis and taken it upon herself to give him therapy. He'd explained everything and now she was giving him a pep talk. About halfway through, Pyro had started writing a poem about... well, everything. Drift had offered advice and, when she realized he wasn't listening, she'd started ranting about what had been happening with her.
“Well, congratulations, you’re in love with Osteon. Now what?” Drift asked.
“The same could be asked of you,” Pyro countered.
“I’m not in love with AJ!” She yelped defensively.
Pyro smirked. “I never said anything about AJ.”
Drift blushed pink, opening her mouth but finding nothing to say. She settled for throwing a boulder at him. He dodged with a laugh. Yet he grew serious once more.
”What now?” Pyro asked quietly.
“I mean… just let things happen naturally. I think you have a chance,” Drift advised.
Pyro smiled at her. She smiled back as she got up to leave.
“Thank you, Drift,” he called after her.
Drift waved goodbye. “Anytime!”
