Wolf and Deer

Chapter Text

At first you thought it was your eyes playing tricks on you for some odd reason, but then you realized no. It was not. Farkas had been coming to Riverwood under the guise of work. What did that idiot take you for? Sure you didn't know the work the Companions got but even if it was for work he didn't need to make a point of seeking you out every time. First he caught you at the lumber mill chopping some wood, then when you were tending to the animals.

You could not escape him.

Today you were over the bridge just a bit, walking by the river and picking some flowers. Maybe Arcadia would buy them, or you could give them to Lucia. Despite your concentration on picking the flowers you couldn't help but notice the man following you. A groan left your mouth as you paused and looked over at him, as you expected Farkas stood there like a child who just got caught misbehaving.

"Well..odd seeing you here?" He chuckled, kicking a rock as he looked away.

"Have you been following me?" You crossed your arms as you prepared to reprimand him. He truly looked like a kicked puppy. "Oh by Talos, you're a Companion. You're acting more like a kicked puppy right now, what would your brothers and sisters think if they saw you?" You teased with a smirk and his head immediately snapped over to yours.

"If you even think of telling them I'll think twice before saving you from another giant."

You feigned offence and slapped a hand to your chest.

"Oh my! What will I do without a big strong man?"

Farkas seemed to catch on as he quickly moved to defend himself before sighing and giving up hope. There was no point arguing with you.

"Aye. I supposed that's my fault for saying it like that." He grumbled and looked at the rushing river. "Listen..the others..they don't exactly know I'm here." Farkas admitted with a quiet huff. You raised an eyebrow at the admission but he continued before you could speak. "They would be angry if they knew I was here. Angry is putting it lightly."

"Angry? Why would they be angry?"

He didn't answer, sitting down by the water and sighing.

"They don't think I'm that bright. No brains all brawn. I wouldn't be proving them wrong if they caught me.."

"Caught you doing what? You look like you're just enjoying the view? What, is that not allowed?" You laughed and sat beside him. "If it means anything.. I think you've got some brains. You're smart enough to know when to shut up atleast. That's more than alot of men in Skyrim."

A comfortable silence surrounded you two, only the chirping of birds and rushing of water made it not completely quiet. For once you felt yourself relax without worrying someone would catch you and judge you for it.

"So..dragons. You scared?" You asked curiously, not looking away from the water.

"I think if a dragon comes and decides it's my time I won't be arguing with it." He laughed roughly and you couldn't help but chuckle. "I'd fight, sure. But no much a sword can do against dragon, a bow would be better and that's more Aelas thing. She tried to teach me once. I shot Vilkas' arm."

   "How'd you shoot his arm?"

Farkas shrugged and laughed. The two of you remained like this for awhile, enjoying the sounds and the view. It was perfect for you two.
