Chapter Text
It seemed every interaction that Peter had with Mr. Stark recently ended with him passing out or almost dead. And yesterday was the perfect EXAMPLE!! He had passed out in the middle of their conversation!!!
It also seemed that every time he woke up he was in the medbay.
Parker luck
Peter paced the length of his room. Dr. Cho had said he was fine to start walking around but take it slow, his shoulder and ribs still needed time to heal. But of course that didn't stop Peter from immediately jumping out of the too comfy bed and pace away his problems, even if his body was still throbbing.
Ok peter what are you going to do?
You can jump out of the window again? But that was probably too risky with his shoulder. He didnt want to injure himself further and he was pretty sure that tony had locked down the entire tower while he was here. He remembered seeing something on the news about how tony had invented practacly invisible barriers that could contain the hulk. It was more than likely that he had put them all around the tower.
Ok that idea was stupid, and it would give him a bad name. Spiderman the kid who jumped out of avengers tower every other day. And it didnt count that he already jumped out of windows alot, this was different.
Peter ran his thumb over the thin bracelet on his wrist. The metal warm from his fidgeting.
Peter had almost forgotten about the bracelet, until he woke up and saw it on his wrist and remembered that tony and pepper thought he was their son.
Oh my god he was so doomed.
And peter was pretty sure the bracelet was some kind if high tech monitor of some sort.
Peter pushed away the thought of a baby monitor.
He still wasnt sure what it could do but he had some ideas. Heart monitor, movement tracker, regular tracker, which SUCKED, breathing monitor? He thought of what else tony could have included in the small device, as he contined to pace the room.
Without his knowing peter had walked up the wall and was pacing the ceiling.
Having the little device on him would not do. He was Spiderman and was doing his best to get away from Tony Stark. He couldn't have Tony TrACK him. That would defeat the whole “distancing himself from everyone thing”
And the universe would probably cave in on itself again. Peter couldn't risk it, so he had to find a way out of here. Friday had probably alerted that he was roaming around on the ceiling by now. So he had limited time.
Just as he was thinking of his brilliant escape plan, the door opened and in stepped little miss morgan.
“Shit.”
He had forgotten about Morgan. That made him sound like a terrible almost big brother. But hey his life was stressful right now. And Morgan might help Peter get some answers.
Why did she remember him, and how??
“Shit!” Morgan echoed looking up at him on the ceiling.
“NO no no, you were not supposed to hear that!”
“Shit shit shit.” She singsonged, to him from the ground.
“Morgan! don't say that.” He jumped down from the ceiling grunting as the impact jolted his throbbing body.
Morgan stared at him smugly, like he did exactly what she wanted.
You played right into her hands, Parker.
Morgan grabbed his hand and pulled him down so he was eye level with her.
“What did you do this time?”
“I fought an octopus lady.” He answered truthfully.
Morgan huffed and inspected his tattered and bruised body.
“Well you didn't win.” She said lightly smacking his arm.
Peter laughed at her blunt remarks but it was strained. The knot of anxiety in his chest was tightening with every breath.
“Morgan, I have to ask you something.”
“Ok…” she looked right in his eyes. He could see the worry and confusion in her little face. No little sister should have to worry about their older brother getting into fights, about whether he’ll come home that night.
“Morgan…do you know… why do you remember me?”
“Why would I not remember you? You're my big brother.”
His heart melted a little bit at the word. But he steeled himself.
“Morgan, you shouldn’t remember me. It's dangerous that you do.”
Peter saw the fear flicker in her eyes but it was quickly snuffed out and child determination replaced it.
Peter groaned inwardly. Morgan was just as stubborn as her dad, which was saying something.
“Did you do something to make everybody forget? Is that why mommy and daddy don't remember?”
She looked at him, her brown eyes the same shade as Tony's, her gaze unwavering.
“Sort of… Morgan, how did you even get in here?” He asked genuinely curious. He was in the medbay which was at least five floors below the penthouse.
There was no way she wandered in here by herself. Her dad might have been a genius but there was still no way she navigated all the way down here without somebody seeing her.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Morgan suspiciously. She looked right back at him with her big ol’ brown eyes.
The back of his neck prickled, he balled his fists, prepared to throw hands but instead of someone catching these hands he felt Morgan fling her arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight hug.
He forcefully exhaled and let his fists uncurl, his muscles loosen. There is no one to fight. You're safe.
“I'm happy you're ok Peter.” She mumbled into his shirt. Peter slowly let himself melt into the hug. He was still trying to convince himself that he was here, this was real. It wasn’t all just a dream and he was actually in his dingy apartment eating salty canned soup and crackers. He was here. Morgan was here and she remembered him.
She remembered him and that’s all that mattered right now.
He didn’t realise that he was crying until he pulled away from Morgan and realised her shoulder was covered in tears and snot.
“Oh Morgan your shirt.”
She looked at her sleeve and then looked at him exasperated.
“This is the second shirt I have had to wash because of you crying on me.” She said it like she was angry but Peter could see the smile that betrayed her and the slightly watery eyes from their sob fest moments before.
She really was Tony’s daughter making light of everything with humor.
He laughed, a watery sound.
And of course right in the Parker luck fashion the back of his neck prickled again. He shot up all the previous comfort gone.
He looked around the room, there was no obvious danger so the ringing in his head was consistent until he heard footsteps from outside his room.
Morgan didn’t hear it, super hearing and all that. She just stood up and looked at him.
“Petey what’s the matter?”
He didn’t respond, why were there no sharp objects in this room??
Some part of his brain knew that he was probably being irrational. He was in one of the most secure and heavily fortified buildings in the world but the majority of his brain was on autopilot bracing for impact minutes before the hit ever came.
He heard his heartbeat in his ears and soft talking from the other side of the door. He grabbed Morgan by the shoulders and had her crouch on the other side of the hospital bed.
She looked like she was trying to say something but every sound sounded like he was underwater. Everything except the sound of talking and the door creaking open.
Tony had decided to call an avengers meeting about the current resident in the medbay. After the fight at the compound upstate the team had all decided to crash at the newly rebuilt Stark tower, meaning a whole floor of the building dedicated to the avengers. Tony and Pepper had a floor/penthouse to themselves of course but the avengers floor was easily accessible from their floor.
Having everyone at the tower also meant that there was a lot more domestic drama.
Clint was somehow always in the vents, Tony wasn’t even sure how he even fit in there. Thor would drop by sometimes and Sam thought it was a good idea to introduce the grandpas (Steve and Bucky) and the Asgardian to pop tarts. Thor had to be restrained from eating the whole box and then promptly went into a sugar coma (don’t even bother asking, it was not pretty). And they discovered that capsicle had a secret sweet tooth. Since then Tony saw Bucky secretly buying pop tarts footage courtesy of Friday.
Tony mainly wanted to call this meeting because he wanted the team to be up to speed. He had been working on his communication skills. And he wanted to compare notes with everybody to see what they knew about Spider-Man and what gaps there were in memories.
He walked into the meeting rooms one of the spare ones for peppers fancy corporate meetings. It would have to work. He sat at the head of the table. Pepper sat in one of those office rolley chairs. Her shirt slightly crumpled from last nights fiasco but she still managed to look flawless.
Tony checked everyone off on his mental checklist as they walked in.
The grandpas check. Pointbreak check. Nat check. Banner check. Wanda check. Sam check. Rhodey check. No yelena, Loki or vision today though.
“Dang Tony we haven’t had one of these since Ultron, who are we fighting now?” Clint said as he walked into the room a bag of Doritos in his hand.
More annoying Legolas check.
“No were not-“
“Tony I swear if it’s another robot that you lost control of I’m not helping you. You dug that grave yourself.” Sam ever so helpfully chipped in.
“Yeah, why did you call this meeting Tony?” Nat nicely added, she did not ask nicely.
Why did everybody always assume that when he called a meeting it was about a robot on the loose that was only ONE time.
He pressed the heel of his hands into his eyes. The visual of the team was gone but he could still hear them jibber jabbering about how raccoons are just as menacing as a bear in the right context.
“No no no have you seen a raccoons hands they are tiny and menacing just like-“
“Clint if you say that I am tiny and menacing one more time.”
“I don’t think we have such creatures on Asgard. I would like to see one.”
“No Thor you don’t. they aren’t menacing, they're just a menace to the trash cans.”
That last voice was Bucky. He wasn't as comfortable as the rest of them, still uncertain about living in the tower but he was warming up to the rest of them. Tony had a feeling it was mainly because Steve was here but hey who was he to judge? He was here most of the time because of pepper and Rhodey.
“Ok enough of the chit chat I did call this meeting for a reason.” He gave Nat a pointed look. She responded with a shrug.
The chatter died down and FINALLY he had the teams full attention.
“Ok I wanted to get us all up to speed on a situation that we have going on in the tower.”
“Tony what kind of situation are you talking about?” Rhodey asked his tone more serious now.
The rest of the team looked equally concerned.
He grabbed a thin manila folder off his chair. He tossed the file in the middle of the table.
“All of you are familiar with spider-man, correct?”
“Yeah, where is this going Tony?” Sam asked
“That is all the information I have on him.”
Wanda slid the folder toward herself.
Clint looked over her shoulder.
“Tony, that's half a page.” Clint said, baffled.
“How is that possible?” Sam looked at the single piece of paper.
“I guess we don’t really know much which is strange considering…” Wanda whispered quietly.
“Considering we’ve fought with him multiple times. he was there when we fought thanos at the compound he was there on titan, I saw him blip.” Tony’s throat tightened as he mentioned titan, swallowing roughly he continued.
“Cap, don't you think it’s weird that he was at the fight in Germany.”
Steve’s brow furrows.
“Why would a teenager that we don’t know was at a very personal fight. And I mean I have the best surveillance AI in the world. How could I not know who this kid is?!”
“Tony what are you trying to say.”
“I don’t know.. I don’t know. none of this makes any sense, it's like the kid was erased. I have run everything through Friday and she can’t find a single thing about this kid besides the surface stuff and the occasional YouTube video.”
Tony collapses down in his chair dramatically, hands scrubbing his face.
“Tony, that doesn’t make sense didn’t you look into Spider-Man more after Germany? Yeah you took him in as a hero in training or something.”
He tilted his head to the side. Did he do that? everything after Germany was a blur he chalked it up to stress and ptsd.
“I did?”
Pepper frowned from where she was sitting in the corner of the room.
“Tony, you don’t remember that?”
“No I guess not.”
“This is freaky. I remember that pretty clearly.” Clint said.
Did anybody remember Spider-Man or Peter as he called himself. What was extra weird was Tony didn’t remember this kid but it was like part of his brain did. His arms ached to wrap the kid in his embrace and hug the hurt away. Not to mention that the kid might be his son there was about a 60 percent chance. Yeah that thought was bouncing around his head like the dvd screensaver.
“Ok we need to gain common factors.” Bruce spoke up his scientists showing.
“We need to find every time where Spider-Man was with us and piece the holes together.”
Natasha shifted in her chair, she was originally sitting with her legs on one armrest and back on the other. She was now at full attention leaning forward elbows on her thighs.
“Ok where do we start?" she said.”
Bruce started talking with cap and Bucky chiming in occasionally, but they turned into white noise as he looked at the notification on his watch.
“Shit.”
“Tony what is it?”
Pepper looked at him, she had moved closer to the table to take part in the group puzzle.
He looked into her piercing gaze. An unspoken message floated between them.
“Where’s Morgan?” She asked
He glanced at his watch again.
“With the kid.”
Pepper shot up. Tony followed suit, his chair thumping to the carpet.
They dashed toward the elevator, the room of avengers calling after them.
