As such, Hawks understandably has many questions when he picks up a call from his intern in the middle of the night and hears the villain Dabi on the other line, frantic because Hawks' intern just got shot in a back alley in Shizuoka city. Questions such as: what the fuck was Dabi thinking, taking his intern out so late at night? But also: what the fuck is Dabi doing hanging out with his intern at all? And: what the hell is Shouto doing hanging around the man who tried to murder his dad on national television?
And, most importantly: why does Dabi seem to care so much about Endeavour's son?

Summary

Shouto is a masterpiece, his father claims. His quirk is strong. He is two powers given form, two imperfect things brought together to create perfection. Two negatives make a positive, the absolute value of the sum of two numbers raised with his growth.
He will be Number One, his father declares. Shouto will be perfect, will be the best— he will be everything his father wants, an ambition realized.
Shouto will be a hero. His path is carved in stone, bricks and hardened clay laid down by his privilege, his pedigree, his bloodline. He will be a hero, he will be the best.
There is no other path for him to take.
