Chapter Text
Sirius is based off my old cat, Sirius, who I had to put down in December. He really was the best 😭

You don't realize you're still wearing Robby's jacket until you get home, and you flushed, carefully taking it off to drape it across one of the mismatched chairs that sit at your table.
Despite making a proper paycheck, you couldn't bare to part with your eclectic furniture, that you'd slowly acquired over the years from your grandparents and different vintage stores around the city.
You quickly pull out your phone, to text Robby.

You watch the ellipses dance before he replies:
𝘖𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺. 𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦
Next time.
You bite your lip, grinning as you head over to the couch where Sirius is snoozing.
"Hi baba," he blinks awake, yellow eyes bright as he gets up to headbutt your hand, and you can hear his purr as he licks the back of your hand.
He'd been your ride or die for the past ten years - you'd adopted him during your Junior year of high school - when your parents had finally relented, as long as you could pay for him and you'd picked up every available shift you could at Aldi.
You'd wandered through Humane Animal Rescue Pittsburgh, taking a deep breath as you stepped into the room with the kittens. It was crowded despite the fact that you'd arrived right when it opened.
It was then that you heard a soft plaintive meow and you slipped past a middle aged woman holding an adorable tuxedo kitten, heading to the back of the room to a cage.
A sign that said I'm shy was taped to the front of the cage and you scan the wall for his information.
Sirius is a six month old domestic shorthair mix. I came here with my brother Abbott, and I'd love to be adopted with him.
You peered into the cage, and realized quickly that his brother must have already been adopted and you frown, reaching up to open the cage.
"Hey, Sirius," you whispered, and he just watched you for a moment before taking a step closer to sniff your outstretched hand. "Can I pet you?" You murmured, reaching up to brush his head and he ducks back. "Oh -" You gasped as he headbutts your hand and once he's done that you're able to stroke his neck.
"You're a sweetheart," you grinned as he stepped forward, and you stand still as he reached up to plant his paws against your chest, reaching into a long, languid stretch.
Once you tucked him back into his cage, you grabbed his paper, and the rest, as they say, was history.
You drop onto the couch, reaching down to pull off your heels, as he steps into your lap, letting out a little trill.
"I had so much fun," you tell him, stroking his soft fur, "and he wants to go out again." Sirius looks at you, "I know," you mutter, grabbing the remote, "I'm not going to get my hopes up."
Ha a small voice in the back of your head laughs, keep telling yourself that. You sigh, running a hand through your hair, remembering the feeling of Robby's hands in your hair, and how careful he'd been when he kissed you.
You jump when your phone buzzes next to you.

Your phone comes to life in your hand.
"Angel," Robby mutters, "sorry, I hope you don't mind me calling."
"Oh, no. Not at all."
"So, what are you watching?"
"I haven't decided," you reply, easing your legs onto the couch so you can run the arches of your feet. "My feet are killing me - there's a reason I don't usually wear heels."
"Really?"
"Yes," you blush, "but I wanted to look nice."
"Next time we'll do something that doesn't require high heels."
"What were you thinking? I know that work's busy -“
"It is, but I have some time off next week. Do you drink beer?”
“It's not my favourite, but I do like some of the fruity craft beers -"
"Southern Tier Brewery is having a block party, with beer and food if you wanted -
"Yes, I love their Blackberry Lemonade Ale."
"Perfect, it's a date."
"Great."
"Well, I won't keep you -"
No, please keep me, you think clasping your hands.
“Okay."
"I'll text you with the details."
"Sounds good! Bye.”
“Goodnight."
You hang up, kicking your feet before you finally opening Netflix, hauling Sirius into your lap.
"Do you think Devonte is actually going to marry Brittany...?"
