Chapter Text

"Oh, I almost forgot. Would you like to go to a party? It's at Charles's house. It's a decades-themed party, and I'd love for us to go together and dress up as a couple," Carlos asked, slightly blushing at what he had just implied.

Oscar wasn't entirely sure about it, but he decided not to listen to the voices in his head. He wanted to go and have a nice time with his boyfriend, so he agreed.

"Sure, I'd love to. What day is the party?" Oscar asked with a smile, taking Carlos's hand to reinforce his answer.

"Friday. Can you make it?" Carlos asked, hoping for a positive answer.

"Hmm, let me check my mental calendar," Oscar said, pretending to look through an imaginary calendar. "I don't have anything! I'm completely free."

"Omg, yes! We're going to have to figure out what we're wearing. Let's meet at my house and talk about it, okay?" Carlos said excitedly.

"I don't think I have anything planned for this afternoon, so sure," Oscar replied, leaning in to give him a sweet kiss on the lips.

Before they could continue, the bell rang for their first class, forcing the lovebirds to separate since they had different classes.

Oscar's class was Mathematics. Fortunately, they had to do a group assignment that day. Luckily, he shared the class with his friends, so at least he didn't have to socialize more than necessary.

After finishing the assignment given by their teacher, Oscar decided to ask them about Charles's party and told them about his boyfriend's invitation.

"You're going?" Lando asked, putting a hand over his heart dramatically. "Carlos managed to accomplish something that took us years."

He laughed before continuing.

"But jokes aside, you two are really cute together. Do you know what you're going to dress up as? Logan and I are probably going too," he said, pointing toward his friend.

"Mm, not yet. We're meeting at his house today to figure out what we can do," Oscar said, scratching the back of his neck, slightly nervous about admitting it.

"Look at you, already planning matching outfits with your boyfriend," Lando teased.

"Shut up," Oscar replied, trying to hide his smile.

"I'm just saying! Two months ago you thought someone was trying to murder you with a rose," Logan added.

"I still think it might've been a trap."

"And yet you're dating the guy who sent it."

Oscar rolled his eyes, but he couldn't stop himself from smiling.

After School, Oscar and Carlos spent the afternoon scrolling through Pinterest, looking at different outfits from different decades.

"What about the 70s?" Carlos suggested.

"Absolutely not."

"Why?"

"I don't think I can pull off those pants."

Carlos laughed. "Okay, fair enough. What about the 80s?"

Oscar stopped scrolling.

"The 80s..."

He looked at the pictures again.

"They actually look really fun. Aesthetically speaking."

"Then it's settled. We're going as an 80s couple."

The days passed until the long-awaited Friday finally arrived.

Oscar was wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, paired with a loose, light-gray jacket that hung casually over his shoulders. He had on a pair of straight-leg blue jeans, a black belt, and black shoes with white socks peeking out above them.

Carlos, on the other hand, wore a light-blue button-up shirt underneath a black leather jacket, paired with high-waisted, straight-leg blue jeans and a brown belt. He completed the outfit with a pair of black boots and white socks.

They both looked like they had stepped straight out of the 80s, but somehow, their outfits complemented each other perfectly.

They decided that Carlos would pick Oscar up since he had a driver's license, which would also help them save some money on transportation.

Oscar was standing outside his house, looking at his phone to kill some time, when suddenly he heard a car horn. He startled and looked up.

The passenger window rolled down.

"Being that distracted, someone's gonna steal you, sweetheart," Carlos said with a wink.

The comment made Oscar blush slightly, and he quickly got into the car.

"Oh, Carlos, don't say things like that," he said, gently hitting him on the arm as he settled into his seat.

"Ow! I think you broke my arm. I'm not going to be able to drive anymore," Carlos complained, holding his arm and making exaggerated sounds of pain.

Oscar laughed.

"Come on, I didn't hit you that hard, idiot. What can I do to make it up to you?" he asked, looking at Carlos's little performance.

"Oh, I know what you can do," Carlos said flirtatiously.

He leaned closer to Oscar and kissed him.

It started as something innocent, soft and gentle, but gradually became more passionate as the kiss went on. Carlos's hands moved to Oscar's waist, keeping him close.

They continued until they were both starting to run out of breath.

"You're... crazy," Oscar said, fixing his clothes and trying to catch his breath.

"Crazy about you, baby," Carlos replied, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before starting to drive toward the party.

Before heading to the party, Lando and Logan took advantage of Oscar having a boyfriend and asked Carlos if he could pick them up as well. Carlos happily agreed.

After all, he had already been approved by Oscar's friends as a good boyfriend, which was important if he wanted to keep his place in their little group. Luckily, everyone got along well.

Fortunately, Charles's house wasn't too far away.

When they arrived, the house looked pretty normal from the outside. It was a two-story house that seemed rather quiet and ordinary.

Carlos parked the car, and the four of them got out and walked toward the front door.

They took advantage of the fact that Carlos was the one who got along best with Charles, since the two had been friends for quite some time.

They rang the doorbell, and Charles opened the door.

"Hey, guys! Come in, welcome!" Charles said, stepping aside to let them through.

"Hey! Thanks for inviting us!" Carlos said, shaking his hand in greeting, which Charles gladly returned.

The other three walked in somewhat nervously. It was their first time at Charles's house, so they greeted him with a small, polite "Hi."

The party was actually pretty fun.

They drank, danced together, and every now and then, the two lovebirds found little moments alone to enjoy each other's company as if nobody else was watching.

At one point, Oscar separated from his boyfriend to get some drinks. They had been dancing quite a lot. Oscar wasn't particularly good at it, but he was trying his best.

Carlos, on the other hand, was pretty good.

It was obvious his Spanish blood was doing its job.

While Oscar was pouring himself a drink, completely lost in his own thoughts, he heard someone make a small sound to get his attention.

It was Charles.

"Hey, Oscar!" Charles said as he approached him.

"Oh... hey, Charles! Everything okay?" Oscar asked.

"Oh, yeah. I just wanted to talk to you. I'm glad you're with Carlos. Ever since you two started dating, I've noticed that he's been better than before. Happier," Charles said as he poured himself a drink.

"I was actually kind of surprised when Carlos told me you two were dating."

Oscar immediately felt uncomfortable.

"Oh..."

He couldn't help but wonder what Charles meant by that.

"I mean, don't get me wrong. You seem like a nice guy. It's just... Carlos has always had people after him. I guess I never pictured him dating someone like you."

"But hey, if you're happy, that's what matters, right?" Charles added with a forced smile, as if he were trying to make his previous comment sound like a joke.

He immediately noticed something had gone wrong when he saw Oscar's expression change into one of concern.

"Yeah... yeah," Oscar replied, nodding slightly.

He avoided eye contact with Charles, feeling increasingly uncomfortable after what he had just heard.

Wanting to escape the awkward situation, he grabbed the drinks and walked away as quickly as he could.

What did he mean by that?

Was he trying to tell me that I should break up with Carlos?

Was I not what people expected for him?

Did everyone think the same thing?

Do they hate me?

Those thoughts and many more were all Oscar could think about as he searched for his boyfriend.

Carlos was sitting on a couch, talking nonsense with some of his friends. When he noticed Oscar, he immediately looked at him and gestured for him to sit beside him, pointing toward the empty spot next to him.

Oscar sat down and handed Carlos his drink.

He gave him a forced smile without looking him in the eyes.

It was obvious something had happened during those few minutes he had been gone, but Oscar tried his best to hide it.

"Hey, Oscar, you okay?" Carlos asked worriedly, noticing how different his boyfriend suddenly seemed.

He wrapped an arm around Oscar's shoulders.

"Yeah... yeah, don't worry," Oscar replied nervously, as if he didn't want Carlos to figure him out.

He took Carlos's hand, gave him a small smile, and rested his head on his boyfriend's shoulder.

The party continued as normally as possible.

Everyone seemed to be having fun.

Everyone except Oscar.

While Carlos continued dancing, Oscar decided to stay seated, using the excuse that he was tired.

But in reality, he couldn't stop thinking about his interaction with Charles.

What did he mean?

Was he saying that I should break up with Carlos?

That I wasn't good enough to be with him?

Those thoughts kept repeating themselves in his mind.

Without realizing it, tears began falling down his cheeks.

He only noticed when several people who had been dancing and enjoying the party suddenly started looking at him with worried expressions.

And there was Carlos, standing there, completely shocked, staring at him.

When Oscar realized what was happening, he quickly wiped away his tears and decided to leave the house.

He walked out as quickly as he could, but before he could make his way home, a hand stopped him.

"Hey."

It was Carlos.

The moment he saw Oscar, his eyebrows furrowed with concern.

He gently wiped the tears from Oscar's face before pulling him into a hug.

That was enough to break Oscar completely.

He started crying even harder.

"What's wrong, my love? You've been acting really strange ever since you went to get the drinks," Carlos said, still holding him and gently rubbing his back to help him calm down.

"I... I shouldn't be with you," Oscar said, his voice hoarse after crying.

"What?"

Carlos pulled away slightly, completely confused by what he had just heard.

"Why not? What happened, Oscar? Please, tell me."

He looked at him with such confused eyes, as if he couldn't understand what was going on.

"Nothing... don't worry about it," Oscar tried to reassure him.

He wiped away his tears and refused to look Carlos in the eyes because he knew Carlos would immediately realize he was lying.

"Don't worry about it? Oscar, two minutes ago you were crying when we were having a great time. And everything changed after you went to get the drinks. Don't treat me like I'm stupid," Carlos said, placing his hands on his hips.

He was clearly frustrated.

"It's just..." Oscar didn't know what else to say.

"I don't want to talk about it."

He felt helpless. He didn't want to look Carlos in the eyes. He could tell that his boyfriend was becoming increasingly with the situation.

"I just... want to go home, please."

Oscar started crying again, covering his face with his hands.

The exhaustion of everything that had happened was finally catching up with him.

Carlos sighed.

"Okay... I'll take you."

Carlos went back inside to get his belongings, and the two of them got into the car.

The drive was silent.

The only thing breaking the silence was the radio playing quietly in the background, just loud enough to fill the empty space between them.

Neither of them was in the mood to talk.

It had been a long night.

Carlos was frustrated because his boyfriend wasn't trusting him enough to tell him what was wrong.

He wanted to help Oscar. It hurt him to see how suddenly everything had changed and how Oscar had ended up crying.

Seeing the tears running down his boyfriend's face had broken his heart into pieces. He couldn't stand seeing him like that.

Oscar, on the other hand, could only think about how he had ruined everything.

How he had ruined his boyfriend's night.

That only added to everything he had already been thinking about.

He couldn't take it anymore.

He had been going over the same questions in his head for hours, and now his head hurt from overthinking everything.

But he couldn't tell Carlos.

Not yet.

When they arrived at Oscar's house, the two of them remained silent for a moment.

Neither knew what to say.

They were both struggling in completely different ways.

It had been a long night.

They both needed to rest.

"Can we talk about it tomorrow?" Carlos asked.

He sounded exhausted and kept staring straight ahead instead of looking at Oscar.

"Yeah... of course."

Oscar got out of the car, feeling uncomfortable about everything that had happened.

He felt useless.

He realized that his own mind had become his biggest enemy.

"Bye... I love you," Carlos said.

Before Oscar could close the car door, Carlos leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Oscar opened the door to his house and went straight to his bedroom.

When he closed the door behind him, he saw that his phone was filled with notifications from his friends, who were worried about him.

But he couldn't deal with that right now.

All he could do was sit down on the cold floor of his bedroom and curl into himself, crying.

He was completely destroyed by everything that had happened.

All he wanted was to stop thinking.

With the little strength he had left, he threw himself onto his bed without even changing his clothes and eventually fell asleep.

Tomorrow was a new day.

And it was going to be a very busy one...
