It was dark. The leaves crunched under the man's boots as he desperately stumbled through the underbrush while bumping into trees, stumbling over roots and clutching his side as he felt the warm blood on his hand. In between his frantic and terrified breaths, he could hear footsteps behind him. The footsteps were calm and measured. Like the owner knew they had all the time in the world to finish what they'd started. As the man continued to run, the same thoughts rang through his mind. 'Mother was right. I never should have gotten involved with him... Now I'm going to die here...
As the man became lost in thought he failed to notice a root sticking out from the ground until he stumbled over it and tumbled down hard. Before he could get to his feet, he heard the footsteps come to a halt. Before the man could scream a hand clamped over his mouth and a sudden sharp pain erupted in the back of his head. A continuous wet bashing sound and white hot pain exploded in his ears and head. The man was in absolute agony. His last thoughts before succumbing to the pain was a faint thought of what his life could have been if he hadn't been so eager.. if he'd just been patient and waited a bit longer.. maybe then he could've found his true love. and then everything went black.
