Chapter Text
It was a long time ago, when they had both been young and naive. Stumbling upon jewels wasn't an everyday thing, but for them to be magical was even crazier. Gabriel took the brooch that resembled the appearance of a butterfly. And Emilie, his sweet Emilie, took the cracked peacock brooch.
The power, despite being so unstable, had been used so much by her. The excitement she carried in her eyes, the possibility of creating something. There was a night where the both of them sat on the Eifel Tower, and she had played with the feathers on her fan.
"What if I created a child with the miraculous?" She had asked, and Gabriel was horrified by the possibility of it.
"A sentimonster?" He choked out.
"Don't call them monsters." She muttered angrily, "If it's so hard for us to have children, then why don't I?"
"It's not the same, Emilie."
"But it is. It's a child."
"An artificial child."
"A child nonetheless."
"One that could be snapped away in an instant. One that could be temporary. My love." Gabriel brushed his hand on her cheek, "Our child will come when the time is right, I promise you that." They had both made it to the Agreste Mansion, and after spending a night together, it had been all made up. And everything was made even better when Emilie had found out she was expecting. He remembered her face, tears streaming down her cheeks as she showed Gabriel the pregnancy test. Months later, they had ended up with a son, Adrien, who they both adored.
But Emilie still made sentimonsters, figments of her imagination to temporarily exist, even when it broke her to destroy them. Using the peacock miraculous damaged her heart, since she had used it so much when creating them. It wasn't going to be long before she would get ill, and till Adrien noticed his mother's sickness.
Gabriel searched endlessly for a cure to her ailment. He even found a means to fix the peacock miraculous, so whoever used it wouldn't face the same fate. But it didn't fix hers. She continued to weaken every single day. Until her body and mind couldn't take it anymore, and she had passed.
He threw himself into his work and doing anything he could to get her back, that he has forgotten about something important. He had forgotten about the little boy who stood by his side crying as he had lost his mother.
But he wasn't a little boy anymore, and he was now waiting in the doorframe by Natalie's side. She looked at his son with love, with care even if nobody could tell from her external behaviors. But the butterfly miraculous helped him feel so many emotions.
He could feel Adrien's nervousness as he came closer to him, but he could also feel a bit of excitement. After all, it wasn't every day that Adrien came down into his father's study.
"Father, you wanted to speak with me?" He asked hopefully, and Gabriel put down the sketch he was working on.
"Yes, Adrien. I just want to make sure..." the words built up in his throat as he looked at his son. His and Emilie's own child. "I just want to make sure you're safe. If something like this happens again, I want you to know that I truly do care about your safety. And make sure to stay safe during those things."
"I understand father," Adrien sounded so formal despite all the teenage emotions building up inside of him. He left the room as Nathalie shut the door and stood where Adrien was before.
"Gabriel. What you're doing with the miraculous is dangerous. An akimatized villain could kill him or put his life at risk–"
"I know Nath, I know." It had been years ever since they went by nicknames, but it had been automatic. It shocked the both of them as he continued, "But it's the only way I will get Emilie back."
"Gabriel, I care for both you and your son, and you know I feel that way. Just promisenyou won't hurt him." He was soon left all alone in his study with Nooroo by his side.
"I promise." He muttered as he transformed and got back the purple butterfly from earlier. There was a small flaw in that superhero girl's plan after all.
