Chapter Text
They followed the trail of footprints into a snowy biome. Thankfully, it hadn't snowed since the last time the creature had been there.
Eventually, the trail led to a mountain with a gigantic entrance. They peeked down to see how deep the hole was. Down there, the footprints didint stop.
The water dropped all the way down and continued, slowly becoming more agitated.
"What are we even here for?" Asked Freaky Verity, who had been trying to find an excuse to hold Lookout's hand for the last half an hour. "Weren't we supposed to be finding the archives?"
"We are trying to find the creature first. He must be holding Xqree and Falsity captive." Explained Zorya.
"And maybe he will tell us how to go to the archives!" Lovity said happily.
"Yeah... I don't think that is going to happen."
"Aw crap..."
Lovity spun around as she walked and hummed; at one point her gaze landed on the Freaky Verity, who had moved away from Lookout to check out some stalactites. He looked so small and silly! And so lonely too.
She crept behind him and spoke to him.
"You like rocks?"
"Oh- uhm- yeah, a bit I suppose."
"Mhm? I like them too, look! That is a Soda Straw Stalactite. These are thin, tubular stalactites formed by the slow dripping of mineral-rich water!"
"I know." He responded drily.
She forced her smile and kept looking at the cave walls with him. There were many minerals at that height. The sounds of dropping water and chirping bats rumbled throughout the cave.
Oddly enough, they encountered no mobs in the way.
"Do you mind if I call you Verity?" She asked him after a long silence.
"Yeah, I mean, that's my name."
"Oh, Im just asking since some people call you Freakity."
Freakity groaned.
"I don't know why, Im not even that freaky!"
"Sure you aren't."
He stared at her as they walked. How could the other Verities look so put together? He could tell by their expressions they had existed for so much longer than him, that they knew so much more than him, and still, they were saner than him. He always thought knowledge was a burden. What could be going on in her mind?
"Hey, lovity?" He called her
"Yeah?"
"I know this might be odd since we just met, but... do you know why we were created?"
Lovity tilted her head and smiled, a bit confused.
"Don't be silly! To help humans, of course."
"Yeah, of course."
As they spoke, they noticed mushy black blocks with blue shining dots starting to appear under their feet, slowly becoming more prominent.
"We are entering a deep dark biome. Stay silent if you don't want to get mauled to death." Zorya warned them, going slower to muffle the sounds of her footsteps.
"Deep Dark is an Overworld biome that generates deep underground beneath areas with a low erosion value, especially under jagged peaks, stony peaks, frozen peaks, snowy slopes, groves-"
"SHUT UP VERITY."
"Sorry."
They tiptoed around the portal and rocky structures. It was hard to ignore the treasure chest around, but they had to make sure not to make the faintest of sounds. At least most of them were being cautious.
Lookout lit up a cigarette.
"What are you doing?!" Whispered Zorya.
He took the first puff.
"Chillll, I'll be quiet."
She stopped walking.
"Throw that away!" she commanded him.
"Nahh, I don't want to."
"Ugh, give me that!"
She reached over to take the object out of his hands. He moved the ciggarete away from her grip, accidentally moving his fingers towards the burning end of it in the process.
He yelled and dropped it to the ground.
"OUCH! What the hell?"
Zorya gasped and covered his mouth.
The shulk blocks started illuminating.
"Chat, are we cooked?" Whispered mob.
Lookout laughed.
"Don't worry, guys, the wardens are my friends! They can help us."
"Lookout- no- "
"OHHH WARDEN!"
The entire cave illuminated as the blind monsters appeared from the ground. Lookout went to receive them with open arms as the rest ran away.
Verity grabbed his arm and pulled his dumb ass human away from the danger. They all ran together as a group like in The Croods. There were too many of them to be sneaky and move slowly; as they ran, the loud sound of their footsteps only brought more of them to the surface. Lookout tried to use creative mode for the 67th time.
They could see a relatively small entrance in the wall a few blocks away.
"THERE!" Yelled Zorya.
The rest of the gang followed her and entered the hole, quickly covering the entrance with blocks and leaving the creatures outside. They were now in complete darkness.
They took a few moments to catch their breath, thankful for that conveniently placed cave, until Lookout lit up a torch.
"We survived, LETS GOOOO!!!" He celebrated,
They all stared at him in horror. Or rather, at what was behind him.
He turned around veryyyy slowly.
...
"he is right behind me, isn't he..."
Holy shit, he said it.
The gigantic white creature slept on the hard rock floor, curling over his body, its breath hitting the small ones in the face like a hurricane. It lay like the great cyclops Polyphemus, son of Poseidon, guarding its sheep. Or somethinf.
They hid behind a rock Scooby-doo style, crouching like they were playing sardines.
"Well, we found it, what now?" asked Mob.
Lookout got a gun out of freaking nowhere.
"I'll shoot it."
They all turned to the idiot that had already ruined their mission enough.
"No, we don't want to hurt him!" whispered Lovity.
As they all tried to convince him that that was a horrible idea, the least expected person spoke.
"I think he is right." Said the original Verity.
"WHAT?"
"It is optimal that we eliminate the threat."
"Have you gone insane?" Asked Zorya.
Thatmob remembered why he hated that guy.
Freaky Verity got near the human and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Lookout, I know it has worked before, but right now, this is a bad idea."
"It's the safest option, man!"
"No." He looked over the rock to inspect the creature. "This thing isn't like the verities we know. I don't think any of us could take him." He explained cautiously.
"But og verity agrees with me. And he is like, super smart or something. He knows everything!"
"So do I!"
"Yeah, but he is more... you know, man!"
He backed away a bit.
"No- I don't know."
How foolish of him to think his reaction would be any different.
Lookout sighed.
"Alright, fine."
"Really?"
"NOPE, SIKE."
He jumped from behind the rock and pointed the gun at the creature's forehead, smiling maniacally.
"NO, NO, LOOKOUT-"
"GONEEE." He said as he shot.
The bullet hit the target with a loud bang, making a bloody wound on its head that seemed to pierce through its entire skull.
The white thing let out a horrid scream, louder than anything imaginable. It opened its eyes as it clunched its head and moved around, crying and screaming from the pain.
"He is suffering. LEEETS GOOO!!!" yelled Lookout.
Suddenly, the creature stopped. It turned its head to stare at the one who had yelled, with its lifeless, empty eye sockets.
Lookout's smile dropped as the wound on the creature's forehead started closing right in front of him.
What happened next was a blur. The creature lunged at them. Everyone was screaming and trying to hide, being taken one by one by the beast until there was no one left in the cave. But when it caught them all, it didint destroy them.
The heavy wind brought tons of sand with it, almost burying his entire body. The first thing he felt when regaining consciousness was the sound of distant cries and the pain from the sand hitting his face. Lookout got on his knees and opened his eyes. There was nothing. A sanded floor extended into the horizon; desolation covered all that he could see. No a single form of life seemed to be around despite the whispers he swore he could hear.
He stood up, struggling.
"Yo? Where am I? Chat? Guys?" He yelled to the vast emptiness.
Maybe shooting wasnt the best idea.
Im the distance, a shadow appeared, running fast towards him.
"OU SHIII-"
He expected to be jumped by a horrific monster, but it was just Zorya. Close enough.
She grabbed him by the neck and started strangling him to the ground.
"LOOKOUT WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT. YOU JUST GOT US TRAPPED, I SWEAR TO GOD IM GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU AND THE ONLY SOUND YOU ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IS THE MELODIES I WILL PLAY WITH YOUR VOCAL CORDS LIKE A VIOLIN."
"AYOOO, CHILL-"
They kept struggling on the sand-covered floor, Lookout slowly running out of air. He convinced himself she wasnt going to actually kill him.
Another figure appeared behind the woman. Lookout celebrated.
"DUDE VERITY!! Ughm- BABY!" He managed to say.
He didint respond. He just stared down at them like it meant nothing.
"VERITY?! DUDE, HELP ME-" He kept trying to yell.
"YOU JUST RUINED OUR LIVES YOU-"
Suddenly, something lifted Zorya off the ground, making her loosen her grip on his throat.
She screamed in terror, only to notice the distinctive color of the hand.
"You should be doing this, darling." Lovity chuckled.
Lookout managed to stand, his entire face and neck red.
He coughed a couple of times, then turned to Verity as the two women spoke.
"DUDE, what was that?"
"I don't know, ask the smart Verity!"
He then walked away,
"...huh??"
"Oooh, dude, you are cooked."
That mob materialized behind him. Verity stood a few feet away from him, inspecting the place.
"HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN THERE?"
"A while."
"And why didint you help me?!!"
"Yeah, im not on your side, bro."
He left him hanging and went with Freaky Verity.
"WHAT DID I DO!??"
After sorting things out and convincing Zorya not to commit murder, they decided to walk around. Surprisingly, none of the verities knew what that place was. As they walked, more and more strange trees started to appear, and the whispers and strange sounds only became louder. The air was dry, and it almost hurt to breathe.
"Yo Verity!" Lookout said to the original, "You saw how she beat me up?"
"Yes, Im sorry I didint help. I was quite distracted."
Lookout rolled his eyes. Not that he expected him to help
"Righttt, you know where we are?"
"Im not sure yet."
"Okayyy..." And he said he knew everything. "Can't believe our plan failed, dude."
Og Verity sighed.
"Yes... I am... quite distraught. I calculated everything and still... it seems this creature, this place, it goes out of my limits. I hate that feeling, the one of not having control, not knowing. It's something I fail to grasp."
"Yeah, sure, I get it." He stopped for a second. "Can you spawn me a cigarette?"
"...there you go."
"Lets gooo, I should have never replaced you, man."
Freaky Verity pretended not to hear that.
Strange robot-like creatures surrounded them, easy to avoid but violent. They got inside a big hole (Why are they always doing that) and hid in there; the place seemed to be safe from them.
They sat around a campfire (God knows how they got it) and started discussing important matters.
Lookout sat with Lovity and the original, Zorya sitting like an emo in a corner, thinking and muttering about ways to get out of there. Thatmob and Freaky Verity sat together on the other side.
"There are no animals here... we'll have to start killing each other soon." Freaky Verity said nonchalantly.
"I say we eat Lookout first; He put us in this situation," Thatmob suggested, once he made sure they were far enough from the rest.
"Yeah, but he is all muscle; he wont give us much energy."
"But he is the biggest of us; he'll feed us for a long time. He has the most meat."
"Oh, that he does. But as much as I would love to eat him, I say we go with the other Verity instead." That was very biased.
"Nah... I don't think we can beat him, bro." He would know. "He is way too op. Why not the pink gal or the goth girl?"
"No, lesbians taste weird."
"...How many lesbians have you eaten?"
"Not many! Please, I have good taste."
Verity stared at Lookout, who was staring intensely into the fire. It was rare to see him like this, quiet, silent, thinking. He had to admit how much he loved it. Of course, he liked everything about him.
"Why are you siding with me all of a sudden?" asked that mob, getting him out of his trance.
"Hm? I fear enderman meat wouldn't taste quite right." He said as he looked at the other Verity.
On the other side, Lovity forced herself to listen to Lookouts' nonstop yapping. At one point, his gaze landed on his helper talking to that mob so casually. He sometimes wished he could be that calm around him. He had been ignoring him ever since they got to that place; it was odd. For the first time since they met, he wasnt gushing over him and obsessively watching him.
"Yo." He said. "You think my Verity is being weird?"
He felt dumb for asking, and for even caring. But that pink ball wasnt going to judge.
She looked surprised at the sudden question, but still responded in a nice tone.
"Hmm... why would he be?"
"I mean... we are trapped here."
She hummed.
"Are you sure that is the reason?"
He thought about it for a while, going over everything that had happened since they found the monster.
"I did leave him on his own for like, a bunch of time.... but he wasnt mad when we reunited. And I also said some stuff back at the cave..."
She smiled. Maybe this time the free psychology session would go right.
"I remember you saying the other verity was smarter."
"Why would he be mad at that? It's true."
She took a deep breath.
"I guess it is. But it isn't about that; it's about you saying it."
"Why would he care what I say?"
She put a hand on his shoulder, making sure he looked at her.
"That little guy loves you so much, Lookout. And you love him too; there is no use in denying it."
"MAN, shut your corny ass up!"
Footsteps interrupted them. Growing, near, growing louder.
They all stood up; two shadows crept nearer until they revealed themselves.
...
"...Falsity?"
