Chapter Text
Evening light filtered through the blinds, as the two "friends" divulged their recent lives. They had been sitting for almost an hour, barely even noticing the slow departing of every other person dining. It took their waitress coming over and asking them to follow the others out to see just how late it was. Picking up their belongings and donning their respective jackets, they walked out, into the chilly, 7:30pm air.
Grian surpressed a shiver as the breeze nipped at his arms, which were barely covered with a thin cardigan. Scar immediately noticed this small movement and, almost unconsciously, pulled his jacket off and held it out to the other man. It was a chunky, faux-leather coat-like thing, with some light weathering. It had been Scar's for almost 5 years and he wore it religiously, only seen without it on the hottest days of summer.
Grian just stared down at it for a moment, with combination of confusion, surprise and a bit of something else...something he couldn't explain. Something that made his stomach feel odd and his heart beat a little faster.
Scar mirrored his confusion, moving his hand a bit closer to G and murmuring "take it" with a small nod.
After another moment of pure silence, he hesitantly took it from Scar's hand, loosely hanging it over his shoulders and mumbling a quiet "thanks"
Their walk home was quiet, having said pretty much everything earlier in the day. Streetlight after streetlight, car after car, tree after tree, it all passed them by. Finally, the silence was broken by the clearing of Scar's throat and a question.
"so, uh, you got work tomorrow?"
Grian shook his head
"cool, cool...uhm, do you wanna maybe..grab a quick drink?"
The other man thought this proposition through. As tired as he was, he could certainly go for drinks at the moment, and, I mean, he's got nothing to do at home. Might as well!
"sure" he replied after a moment, gazing through the darkness at Scar, and how his face had just lit up.
"Cool! Cool, cool," he cleared his throat once more, trying to play it cool "uh, just wanna go to the bar at the end of my road?"
The bar he was talking about was a rather cheap place, it sold your average wine, the type of vodka that made you feel like you were swallowing fire, a couple simple cocktails and things like that. Grian had been there once before with Scar, a few years back, and it was okay, so G agreed to go tonight. The walk there was filled with the familiar silence - not awkward or regretful, just silent - and Grian spent the walk thinking over his drink order. Maybe some red. But is that too fancy? Maybe a cocktail of some sort? No, not feeling it. Don't want to get too drunk so probably no vodka...whatever, he'll decide when they get there.
The walk continued, now with a slightly happier feeling in the air, though still just as little noise. Slowly their footsteps synced up (which Scar definitely do on purpose), which led to a little round of silent teasing. Grian walking a few steps faster, Scar catching up, Grian slowing down, etc. A small chuckle was let out by Scar, finally breaking the silence.
"Dude," he mused "I'm just trying to walk with you"
G replied playfully "You can walk with me without walking at the same pace"
Scar, after a few more moments of scuffling about, instinctively reached out and held the other man's shoulders, attempting to keep him in place. Feeling pleased with himself, Scar looked to G's face with a grin. He only realised just how close they were when he was met by the other's wide eyes and flustered expression. Scar's arms dropped as he muttered a quiet apology, stepping back a few paces.
"Oh! Don't worry mate!" G quickly exclaimed, covering the distance "I was just a bit surprised, uh, don't worry!"
The speedy reply helped reassure Scar, his nerves, however, lingered for the rest of the walk.
Finally, the two men appeared outside of the bar, the dingy neon lights shining down onto them as they stepped in the door. They were immediately met with upbeat music and loud conversation. The bar was absolutely packed, people lining the bar and almost every booth, thankfully, there was a small table for two left near the back. Carefully, Scar and Grian made their way through the crowd, ending up opposite eachother.
Wasting no time, Scar partially yelled over the hubbub "So, what drink do you want? I can go order for us"
"Uh," G replied "could you just get me a beer please?"
With a nod, Scar dissapeared to the bar.
