Chapter Text
Jack was a special kid. Sam knew he would be from the start but the kid kept surprising him.
At three months old he had rolled over for the first time. He hadn’t seen sure of being placed on the ground at first, on one of Sam’s blanket’s, but immediately he started lifting himself up and starting to roll.
Look Sammy, he would call him his father’s head, I can move!
The little thing couldn’t be stopped after this. He would roll everywhere in the play pin sam set up in the library, much to Dean’s chagrin, and would have the biggest gummy smile on his face the entire time.
It wasn’t long after that the nephilim learned how to pull himself around on his stomach. Shocking Sam who looked away for a half second to grab his bottle and then looked back to find his infant army crawling.
I can move fast like this, Jack thought at him. The warm voice very thrilled by the discovery.
“You’re going to be crawling in no time, buddy.” Sam praised him. “Then you’ll be as fast as Sammy and uncle Dean.”
Jack’s eyes widened as he made his way towards the edge of the playpin for Sam. Sam chuckled and picked his baby up.
He could feel his brother was in the room staring, probably pissed that he was referred to as uncle Dean again. But Sam wasn’t going to just call him Dean around Jack, not when they all lived in the same house.
If he needed to leave then that would be a different story. He would change how he referred to him. And answer any questions his son had when he had them, but for now it’s how it was going.
“It can move now?” Dean huffed as he put his bag on the table, looks like he was gearing up for a hunt. Without Sam.
Sam wasn’t sure if he felt disappointed, betrayed, or guilty by this. Part of him was relieved. He never wanted to be a hunter but he had been hunting with Dean for so long now, he didn’t want to leave his brother unprotected.
Yet, Jack needed someone to protect him. And he was putting his son first. He owed it to Jack, and to Kelly and Castiel.
“Yes, he can. A little earlier than average but still, it’s amazing!” Sam said as he gave Jack his bottle. “You going on a hunt? What’s the case, I can do the lore from here if you want.”
Dean waved him off. “Don’t worry about it, just a simple werewolf case down in Texas. Won’t take long.”
Sam’s brows furrowed in worry. He didn’t think going on a shifter case by himself was a good idea, if Dean got turned they didn’t have an easy access cure.
He was going to protest when Dean wakes up to him and patted his arm. “Eveything is alright, Sammy. Just been cooped up too long. Need to stress my legs before I get lazy. Plus we have some acquaintances there if I need help. Don’t stress…. Bitch.”
Before Sam could reply, Dean was off.

Dean knew he was doing an asshole thing by lying to his brother. He shouldn’t lie to Sam, especially about this. Especially when he was attached to that thing.
But he was running out of options. What else was he supposed to do? Just wait and see if he actually is evil? No. He has to prove it.
He thought he could wait it out, he has waited two months. But Sam was clearly going too deep into this parent hood thing. And the b-thing was getting too attached.
Dean had to do what he had to do.

Sam felt uneasy as he rocked Jack to sleep. Something in his gut felt wrong. Like an alarming blaring at him to be ready to run.
He looked at his son and his little baby face. He looked just like an angel, which he was. Sam loved him so much it hurt. And he couldn’t believe that anyone, that Dean, would think this sweet boy was evil.
“Castiel, if you could hear me, I wish you could meet Jack. He’s so fucking beautiful and he’s so smart. I wish Kelly could meet him too. You two would love him, like I love him.” Sam prayed softly. “I don’t know what to do about Dean. He’s been weird.”
Sam sighed and laid Jack down to sleep. He let out a little huff as he settled and Sam patted his chest to soothe him.
“I wonder what he dreams about,” Sam continued his prayers. “I hope it’s you two. His other parents, I hope he can feel the love you two had for him.”
He walked to his bed and sat, resting against the headboard. His eyes so heavy and tired. He let them fall and he could see the angel’s face in the inside of his eyelids.
Such beautiful blue eyes, black hair, and that smile he so rarely got to see. Sam missed him so much. He wished he could’ve seen him one more time. That he could’ve apologized more for how things had gone down before Jack’s birth.
Apologize for everything he had ever done wrong to the angel or allowed to be done. He missed him, missed his personality and his soul. His heart.
“Cas, I miss you. I love you.” He cried before he let sleep claim him.”

In the empty an angel woke up.
