Chapter Text
Ever since that incident with Katherine, Cassie had been feeling uneasy. That constant feeling of being watched hasn’t left her in months. She is currently sitting in the library late at night, studying for her final exams, when she hears a book fall. The hair on the back of her neck stands up as she slowly gets up from her seat.
With no one else in the library, she goes to where the book has fallen. Looking down at the book, she is startled when another book falls behind her.
“Jesus!” She puts her hand on her heart. “Whoever it is, it is better to come out.” She slowly moves, trying to find anyone; with one hand clutches her necklace, siphoning the magic.
Suddenly, all the lights are turned off. “It’s not funny anymore! Come out, whoever it is!” She says with gritted teeth as she uses her magic to create a light ball.
“I have been waiting to do this.” A voice says as her head is slammed into the table.
“Ow!” She moans as she recognizes Katherine’s voice.
“How dare you tell Klaus about my location?!” Katherine hisses as she pulls her head back before slamming it again. Cassie’s teeth clicked together as she tasted blood.
Cassie could feel the blood on her temple and in her mouth. “What the fuck are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in Florida?” she says, breathing heavily.
Katherine throws her against the bookshelves, hard enough to knock the air out of her lungs. “How can I? When a baby witch humiliated me and snapped my neck!” Katherine struts as she grabs Cassie by the back of her neck. Cassie winces as her hair is pulled.
Cassie tries to grab Katherine’s wrist, but the world turns sideways as she is thrown against the floor. “No, no. That worked once but not this time.”
Cassie pushes herself up, clutching her bleeding head with one hand as she tries to grab the table nearby to get up. Katherine comes up to her. “This is the source of your power, isn’t it? Your backup.” She smirks, pointing towards the necklace Cassie had been wearing.
Cassie’s eyes widen. “Ovtys!” She yells as she sprints with her wobbly legs. Katherine is thrown as the large glass window is shattered, and tiny glass is stuck to her body. She winces as she pulls out glass shards from her body and throws them.
Cassie, on the other hand, reaches her car and starts driving away when a glass shard is thrown at her car tire. She loses steering control and crashes into the tree nearby.
Seatbelt stuck to her chest, vision blurring as pain took over her brain. She is dragged out of the car and roughly slammed against the tree; she barely felt the rough tree bark. Her knees buckled as she coughed out blood.
“Please, let me go.” She begged, bloody saliva sticking to her chin.
Katherine laughed sharply. “Why didn’t you think of the consequences before you gave Klaus my location?” She snatched the necklace from her.
“No, no!” Cassie reached out for the necklace, only for it to be turned to dust in front of her eyes.
Her eyes welled up as she looked at her broken necklace, all the magic that she had been using to heal herself till now.
Katherine pulls her hair roughly. “My, my! Look at that glare!” she mocks her. “Now let's head on to the last piece of business.”
Katherine shoves her ripped wrist to her mouth, forcing her to drink her blood. Cassie tries to resist, knowing well where this is leading.
“No, Katherine, please!” Cassie forces herself away from her. “Please don’t do this!” She is sobbing at this point, crawling away from her.
“You shouldn’t have told Klaus.” Katherine tuts, “That neck snapping? I would’ve endured it, but sticking Klaus on me? That was just cruel.” She snaps her neck.
“Now this will teach you a lesson not to interfere with beings above your pay grade.” Katherine giggles before leaving Cassie dead on the rough concrete floor of the parking. She leaves, thinking that Cassie would either die or lose her magic. Unbeknownst to her, she just created one of the most powerful heretics to exist.

Cassie snaps her eyes open. She gets up, her hands reaching her neck, still remembering the crunch as her neck was snapped.
“Kassanrys Valaar.” A voice said from behind her.
Cassie snaps her head and sees a black-haired man. The man is sitting beside her with a warm smile on his face. She looks around and realises that she is sitting in a grass field surrounded by flowers.
“Alrigtrys issa, ñuha kildor?[Are you alright, my child?]” The man asks, tilting his head.
“Skorkydoso lanuagnor gīmiā?” [How do you know this language?] She asks, blinking rapidly.
The man laughs, his eyes crinkling. “Ziry ñuha tonuenor issa.” [It is my mother tongue.] He looks at her curiously. “Qrinorion itos issa? Tolī pōja nyke vasnor issar tēgīlion ao.” [The question is: How do you know it? After all, I wasn't there to teach you.]
Biting her lip, she picks at her nails. “Dēadion issa?” [Am I dead?]
The man raises an eyebrow at her attempt to change the subject. “Yesrys upī transinrot rȳbilī.” [Yes. You will wake up in transition.]
Her shoulders shrink inwards as she thinks about what being a vampire would mean to her, or more like a heretic. “Sparos youtys issa?” [Who are you?]
He observes her like she is an exotic animal. “My name is Daemon Valaar,” he replies in English this time.
Before she could ask any more questions, everything fades away, and she wakes up with a gasp on the cold, wet concrete floor of the parking. She stands up, her wet hair sticking to her neck as it is raining heavily.
“What the fuck?” She whispers to herself, her throat dry and aching.
“Hey,” a homeless man called cautiously. “Are you okay?” Cassie stopped and slowly turned towards the voice. The man froze as veins crawled beneath her eyes, and when she smiled, her fangs caught the light.
“What the–” His face drained of color. His heartbeat thundered in Cassie’s ears. She tilted her head, making him take a step back. Then Cassie vanished, and the man looked around frantically in the empty parking lot.
Then her hand was around his throat. “Please–” he choked out.
Hunger swallowed the last of her hesitation as she sank her teeth into his neck. He screamed with his hand clawing at her shoulders until his struggles weakened.
With his completely fading heartbeat, Cassie pulled away, and the body slipped from her hands and hit the floor. She stared at it, blood dripping from her mouth, but her hunger wasn’t gone.
Cassie Bennett had completed her transition.
