Chapter Text
Izuku was sitting on the couch one night, reading some fanfiction on his tablet with the TV playing in the background, when his boyfriend shuffled over. The day had started off fine, but the ash blond had gone quiet during the middle of the day. Izuku didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, as there were plenty of times where the two coexisted in silence. Izuku enjoyed it almost as much as having a conversation with his boyfriend, but it all depended on their moods.
Izuku didn’t really sense anything was wrong, until he heard Kacchan let out a louder than normal curse, piercing the silence of their apartment. That’s when he’d come over, his hair more mussed than usual, and his shoulders so tense that Izuku was worried he’d snap.
“Everything okay, Kacchan?” he asked his boyfriend, who looked quite disgruntled. Well, disgruntled wasn’t exactly the right word, but he looked off.
“Just fuckin’,” he cursed, dragging both hands down his face, letting out a long groan of a sigh as he did. Izuku had never seen his boyfriend like this, his normally self assured Kacchan looked like he was being crushed under the weight of something he couldn’t see, and it hurt his heart.
“Hey, it’s okay, it’s gonna be okay,” he soothed, setting his tablet down and reaching out for his boyfriend, gently taking his head in his hands. “C’mere, lie down with me,” he beckoned, pulling him as he laid back.
“What? I’m gonna squish you,” he warned with a huff, but didn’t resist.
“That’s okay,” he assured him gently, bringing Kacchan’s head to his heart as he laid down, adjusting himself to get more comfortable and wrapping his arms across Kacchan’s back and shoulders. He heard and felt the male let out a heavy sigh, like he was releasing some of the tension he’d built up inside. Izuku was a little worried that he hadn’t noticed anything off about Kacchan in the last few hours or days, which left him unsure about how long his partner was feeling this way. Was he being oblivious? Had he missed something? Was he a bad boyfriend?
Ugh, no, he had to focus on his boyfriend right now.
“You’re sure I’m not too heavy?” Katsuki asked, his breath fanning across Izuku’s face as he spoke. It tickled ever so slightly, and left a little cold patch as the warmth dissipated.
“Mm, I’m fine,” he promised. “It’s really nice, actually! Like a really heavy, warm, nice smelling weighted blanket.”
“Oi, don’t be weird,” he chastised, but he snuggled a little closer to Izuku anyways, his head now nearing his shoulder.
“What’s weird about it?” Izuku asked, teetering between teasing and self consciousness. He tried not to let the feeling linger, because right now he needed to focus on Kacchan. “I like the way you smell.”
“Still think you’re a freak,” he countered, making Izuku laugh. “Oi, stay still.”
“Hey, that was your fault,” he argued, adjusting his hold. He let out a soft sigh as the conversation ended, staring up at the ceiling as he held his boyfriend.
The two lay like that for ages, with Katsuki’s nose pressed against the curve of Izuku’s jaw. Should he say something? He didn’t want to pressure his boyfriend to speak before he was ready, and didn’t want to rush him. On the other hand, sometimes Kacchan had a hard time opening up about things, and might appreciate Izuku being the one to speak first.
“Do you wanna tell me what’s wrong?” Izuku eventually asked, rubbing up and down his back, tracing around his shoulder blades. “Or no? Tell me what you need, Kacchan,” he begged softly, pressing a gentle kiss to his hairline as Kacchan lightly dug his fingers into the back of his shirt. “I’m here.”
“It’s just,” Kacchan began, sounding like he was trying to find the words. “Sometimes I just…” he trailed off, letting out a sigh of frustration.
“It’s okay,” he reminded him, his voice soft as he reassured him. He brought a hand up and began to pet the back of his head, running his fingers through the soft strands of hair, scraping his nails against his scalp. Kacchan let out a soft sigh, clearly enjoying his ministrations. Izuku enjoyed it too. He loved playing with Kacchan’s hair, as it was surprisingly soft despite how spikey it appeared. It was very stubborn, too. Anytime he tried to braid it or Kacchan attempted to style it, it would slip from its formation and resume its natural position, stubbornly sticking up from his scalp like an explosion. It was adorable, even if Kacchan always complained about it.
He continued to play with his hair for a while, rubbing a few silky soft locks between his fingers, enjoying how they felt against his skin, when the man spoke again.
“You ain’t gonna judge me for bein’ weak, right?” he asked quietly, his voice almost a whisper as he spoke, his grip on Izuku’s shirt tightening.
“Of course not, never,” Izuku quickly answered, pressing another kiss to his head. “I wouldn’t ever think that of you, Kacchan, I promise.”
He stayed quiet for a few more beats, before he finally opened up.
“I just, I guess get overwhelmed sometimes,” he admitted softly. “Like, it’s not just one thing, it’s a whole bunch of stupid little things, or shit I can’t control, or things I regret… it just gets too much.”
“I understand, Kacchan,” Izuku promised him, pressing a few more kisses to his hairline and forehead. “I mean, you’ve seen me, I get overwhelmed all the time!”
“Yeah, I’m aware” he let out a short chuckle before sighing again. “I just, I have all these expectations of myself, and it’s… I dunno.”
“It’s okay to not know,” Izuku reassured him, twirling some of Kacchan’s hair around his finger. Like always, it immediately stuck back up once it was released from his hold, making him let out a small huff of laughter. “It’s okay. Want me to make you anything?”
“Can… can we just stay here a while?” he requested, his voice uncharacteristically soft. It made Izuku sad, knowing he was feeling lost, but it just made him want to protect him. He wanted to hold Kacchan and take all those burdens off of him, so that he could be his usual self all the time.
“Of course,” he replied quickly, pressing yet another kiss to the top of his head and bringing his hands down to his back. Kacchan let out a long sigh as he adjusted himself slightly, like he was finally allowing the tension to leave his body after subconsciously holding onto it for who knows how long. He was honored that he trusted him like this.
Izuku couldn’t help but stare at his boyfriend. He really was so beautiful, it was hard to process sometimes. How did he end up with someone as amazing as Kacchan? His strong, talented, prickly Kacchan. It felt perfect, him lying in his arms like this, he could stay here forever. His Kacchan was the perfect weight and warmth, he really was like the most perfect weighted blanket ever. How much would it cost to make one that was exactly the same size and warmth as his boyfriend? He should start saving up. Well, actually, why would he need to, when he had Kacchan right here? He looked so perfect, illuminated by the light of the tv show playing in the background. Kacchan had his head turned to watch it, though he likely wasn’t paying much attention to it.
“What?” Katsuki asked, slightly scowling. “I can feel you starin’ at me. What?”
“Nothing,” Izuku laughed, squeezing his boyfriend. “I just like looking at you. You’re beautiful.” This comment made Katsuki huff in irritation before hiding his face in his chest. Izuku grinned, as he could feel the larger male’s face heating up against his skin. His Kacchan really was so cute.
“Y’damn bastard,” he grumbled, snuggling deeper into Izuku and the couch.
“Mm,” he simply hummed, unperturbed by his prickly boyfriend.
They spent another while in silence, which suited Izuku just fine. He understood why Kacchan liked it when Izuku laid on top of him, it was quite comforting. Honestly, Izuku could fall asleep like this, with his boyfriend covering him like a blanket and the tv playing in the background, creating a nice ambiance in their dimly lit apartment.
“And… I like the way you smell too,” Kacchan admitted quietly, his voice so soft that Izuku could have completely missed it in his half asleep state. But he didn’t.
“... freak,” Izuku whispered after a moment of thought, making the larger male pinch his side in protest. Izuku flinched and let out a laugh, happy that his boyfriend seemed a little more at ease now.
