Chapter Text
Zaira arrived about 5 minutes later, apologizing for making him wait, he shrugged, a blinding smile on his face. He never minded waiting for his friends, his good mood was not to be ruined by trivial matters, like a five minute delay. She sat down and ordered a drink as well.
“Its fine, I know that whenever you volunteer to be a baby Vamp teacher your schedule screams and struggles, begging for help. Anyways, how is that going, I know this week you only have classes this Wednesday because of Public holidays” Asked Mirco as he swiveled his drink, the redness of the blood reminding him of Gabriela’s outfit. Oh how stunning she looked, gentle but deadlt.
“Fine, I have a few students struggling, but in general fine. And before you ask your darling O’Brien and her sister are doing fine, however it seems that most days Gabriela has to drag Daisy to class” Zaira said, tired of hearing Mirco talk about Gabriela.
Mirco hummed, finally looking up at Zaira, his eyes half shut and lidded. Zaira felt as if those eyes could burn her from the inside out.
“Well, that’s great. I am not surprised tho, Gabriela has a much better handle on her vampirism than Daisy” murmured Mirco, tearing his gaze from Zaira and letting his eyes wonder on the other patrons of the bar. Zaira huffed and rolled her eyes, her hands going to fidget with a loose piece of thread hanging from her left sleeve.
“Yeah, well, she has been a Vampire for a year already. It seems that she did not go to her original Vampi classes, but the paperwork got lost. So she wasn’t trialed. Lets change the subject, we are here because you got good news, so what is it” Zaira flagged the bartender and ordered a CosmoBlooditan for herself, she knew she would need alcohol if she was to deal with Mirco’s ranting about Gabriela.
“Well, I got accepted into the mortal school, the Council assigned me a pair of recently turned vampires who used to be actors. Turns out that if they do enough commissions for the council, they are recommended to the South Americas Vampire Academia of Art, and it boosts their possibilities of getting a good role.” Mirco said before taking a deep swing of his drink, humming at the taste.
Next to him Zaira blushed slightly, this being possible becuase she had recently fed. In her opinion he always looked his best recently happy and relaxed.
“Hmm, that’s great I guess. I never did ask you how you got all of this information. I had no idea the council did this work” said Zaira, her eyes glued to a drop of blood that escaped he corner of Mirco’s mouth.
“I though you wanted to change the subject, yet you bring it back to her” smirked Mirco as he finally licked the rouge droplet. His hair framing his face as his gaze wondered far away. Envy boiled inside of Zaira, she wanted that gaze.
“By the way, the headmaster of the mortal school invited me to a theme party today. The theme is monsters, wanna come? It be fun to dress up” Said Mirco as he flagged the bartender to pay for both of their drinks. A habit he never had the intention of breaking, is that woman never pay, his mother taught him better than that.
Zaira nodded, and was about to thank him when a familiar voice spoke behind her… Mirco closed his eyes and thought "speaking of the devil"
“Now now, what do we have here” said Mirco’s mother, Catalina as she looked at her son and his friend. Mirco looked away as he tried to clear his mind, the last thing he wanted was for his mother to interrupt today’s plans.
“Now now Mirco, you know I eventually figure whatever you are planning out” Said Catalina as she leaned on the bar to call the bartender. His concentrations was broken by his mother gasping, he opened his eyes to see her looking directly at Zaira.
“A party on the mortal world Mirco. Really?” Disbelief was plain on Catalina’s face, her eyes dramatically wide as she leaned back and had a hand on her chest, ah yes, the Catalina special. She glared at Zaira as she grimaced back at him, he knew it was not her fault his mother was incapable of keeping her nose out of anyone business.
He had said his good mood was not to be ruined by trivial matters, but his mother’s dramatics where no trivial matter.
What he did not know, was what actions her dramatics would take her to do.
At the same time, in the mortal world, Gabriela’s class was getting ready for a trivia contest about vampires. Gabriela was on her desk reading the human approved trivia, trying to not reveal that she knew too much
“So… who was that emo disaster on long legs talking to you earlier.” Said Alejandro as he slid into the sit next to Gabriela, he rested his head on his closed fist, smooching his face as he slightly pouted. Alejandro had to admit that he was utterly confused as of why their interaction bothered them so much.
“Emo disaster on long legs? You mean Mirco? He is a friend of Daisy and I. Why? Did he happen to catch you attention, Alejandro I had no idea you swung that way... But be aware, he has a long list of people after him, it won’t be easy” Teased Gabriela as she studied her friends face, she had never seen him like this before.
“Swu- Swung that way? No way, I like girls and only girls. No, no and no, and a long list?, Really? Tell me are you part of said long list” Sputtered Alejandro, almost falling of the chair with the surprised he felt at her words. His eyes wide, his confusion evident.
“Ha! Me chasing someone else, no way. If someone wants me they chase me, I have no interest in fighting for someone else’s attention. They either want to give it to me or not” Said Gabriela as she shut her computer, they where interrupted by the rest of the class arriving and taking their seats. Causing Gabriela to ignore Alejandro’s contemplative look.
Mr. Bocabayo arrived and started explaining the way the trivia would work, everyone was nervous, except Lucia. During the trivia itself only Lucia and Gabriela answered questions, given that Lucia was way too exited to give time for other to raise their hands. Gabriela managed to answer two or three questions for her team, and mostly because of her desire to not fail the assignment.
After they finished the trivia, all of the classes united to decorate the school, each class decorated a hallway, vampires, werewolf, mermaids, witches and more. Gabriela stuck to Lucia after seeing Daisy and Max together, she did not want Max derived cooties after all.
Her phone pinged and Gabriela smiled when she saw it was a message from her father.
---------------------------
Daddy Dearest: Hello my love, Daisy told me about the
party, exited?
Baby G: Absolutely! I will tell you everything tonight!
Daddy Dearest: Remember, no boys until you are
100 years old, minimum
Baby G: uh huh. What brought this on.
Daddy Dearest: Nothing enjoy you party
---------------------------
Gabriela wondered what had kicked up her fathers protectiveness, meanwhile, on the living-room table of the O’Brien home, there was a magazine from the Vampi Selenium with Mirco con the cover, the tagline “A new love has appeared on my life, their name starts with a G” as Ulises chewed on his lower lip, his hand near his face.
Gabriela rolled her eyes, put her phone away and went to change. Given the “last minute” notice of the events, the student body was allowed into the costume department to see if they could find something useful. Gabriela found a short blonde bob, a skintight corset and kept her black jeans. With some makeup she painted a red drop of blood coming from her red lips.
She was about to re-apply her eyeliner when her phone rung again, about 5 minutes before the party, starling her. A huff came out of her lips before her eyes widened in surprise, her face contorting in worry
---------------------------
Mirco V: Gabriela, Zaira told me Vamplocks are going
to the party, someone told them about it and they
are not happy.
Gabriela: WhAt! No fucking way, are you sure?
Mirco V: This is Zaira, yes when I was buying my
costume the clerk told me all about it! What do we
do, you have to cancel the party. I already alerted
the authorities, but to gather the personnel and
arrive to the school will take them about 20
minutes.
Gabriela: Yeah, and what do I say, hey guys, the
myths we just studied, all real. And they are peckish
for human shaped snacks. It would be total chaos.
But… I think we can hold of the Vamplocks for 15
minutes, right guys?
Mirco: Hey, its Mirco again. Well we don’t really have
a choice. We will arrive in five, see you at the party
hall.
Gabriela: Okey
---------------------------
Gabriela was off to the side, nibbling on her thumb, as she saw everyone have a great time. Unknowing to what was coming. From afar she saw Daisy and Lucia talking with Max, she was about to approach them when she saw Zaira and Mirco reach them first.
Max seemed to leave irked, and in her frustration, Gabriela shouldered him when she passed by. By the time she arrives it seems they had explained everything to Daisy, she saw Lucia texting someone on her phone but payed no mind.
“Besides, how could we even know who they are” Said Daisy as she wrung her hands together.
“Well, before they bite, they secret a numbing agent that smells horrible to everyone but the human in the trance” Said Mirco as he looked down on the four spooked girls in front of him.
“I think we don’t have to worry about knowing who is who. They are here” Said Zaira as she pointed to an incoming group. The group varies in ages, genders and races; but they all had a similar look in their eyes. Rage.
They dispersed into the group, starting to dance with a few of the students, the mortals eyes glazed over as they entered into the Vampire induced trance. One of the she-Vamplocks started to dance with Max, Daisy tried to approach and stop them but Max rejected her and stuck to the Vamplocks.
“There is too many of them” exclaimed Mirco as he looked around the room
“And we are surrounded” said Lucia, her fingertips grazing at the pure silver choker she never took of.
“Zaira, could we freeze them with your powers” asked Gabriela, she had seen the vampiress powers on action during class, as she had prevented a students glass from spilling by freezing it and fixing the mess before it ever existed.
“Not really, my power only works for a maximum of 1 minute, 1:30 if I push it. And if the Council men arrived the second they touched my power radius they would be frozen too” Murmured Zaira as she looked down in shame.
“Okey, I have an idea, a stupid idea, but an idea non the less Do you think you could freeze time and fix the lights directly onto the Vamplocks?. I might be able to control them for a while” Gabriela gulped as the enormity of her task fully dawned on her.
Zaira nodded, but before she started Gabriela whispered for her to also put a particular song in the DJ’s booth. The last thing Gabriela saw was Zaira wave her hand, when she came back, the lighting directly pointed to the, about 10, Vamplocks in the room.
And Everybody by backstreet boys started playing. Gabriela snapped, and everybody under one of the lights got a red thread through their heart, each one leading to a different finger. She took a deep breath and concentrated.
The Vamplocks all had confused faces as they started to dance uncontrollably, all dancing along to the music in the same choreography. Daisy’s face lit up as she recognized the choreography, when Gabriela was 15 she became obsessed with this song and forced both Daisy and Lucia to learn both the Lyrics and the dance.
Gabriela knew this choreography by heart, the Vamplocks slowly moved to the center of the dance floor as everybody clapped as the Vamplocks moved to the beat of “Everybody”. However, eventually the song ended, and Gabriela struggled fighting against all the consciousness of the Vamplocks on her hold. Her frame started to shake, leaning heavily against Mirco, until one by one the threads snapped; leaving a shaking, weak Gabriela and 10 very angry Vamplocks.
“You think we will let you laugh at us, at our traditions at our existence. Even less in front of these mere mortals” Shouted the Vampire known to be the oldest Vamplock, Walescu. As he riled the Vamplocks up, Mirco stood foreward as if to attack, but before a fight could start. The doors of the room opened with a loud bang, on the entrance.
Ulises O’Brien, who when opening his coat, had silver daggers, garlic knots and one or two stakes.
“Leave o cursed being, I call upon the power from Lilith to slay you down” Shouted Ulises as he walked towards Walescu, who covered his face with his jacket. Screaming for Ulises to put away his weapons.
"We will leave if you close it" Screamed a random Vamplock, who was hidding their face.
Looking around the room, and at the hissing Vamplocks, all Gabriela could think about is how thankful she is for the Formula, which hindered the effects of garlic and silver. Eventually Ulises closed his jacket, and after a breath or two the Vamplocks straightened up. And they slowly moved towards the exit, or towards her father, she wasn't sure
“You might have won this fight O’Brien, but you have not won the war” hissed Walescu as he exited the room, being the last of the Vamplocks to leave. Right after he left, Daisy ran up to her father thanking him in soft murmurs.
“Thank, a big applause for our actors, please and thank you. We hoped you enjoyed our performance” shouted Ulises as he started clapping, soon after everybody followed, easily buying the lie. After all, there are no vampires in this world right?
Soon after, the music re-started again and everybody got back to dancing. In that moment Gabriela lost all the strength in her legs and collapsed against Mirco, the strain her powers had taken on her evident.
She breath labored as Mirco and Zaira took her out of the room and sat her in one of the benched outside.
