Chapter 2: come home

Summary:

This fic will jump around in time a lot- this chapter took place back in all mights prime when he naturally looked like his muscle form, early on in him and readers relationship :]

Chapter Text

You remember waking up, too early in the morning, to the smell of pancakes.

Dawn had just begun to break, the warm summers sun creeping through the windows. The bed holds only you- easy to figure out- All Might was a big, larger than life man and not someone you’d forget or overlook. Plus, he was a damn portable heater, and you could sense the absence of his heat.

You swing your legs over the edge of your bed, yawning and stretching your naked body out languidly. You wince a little as you get up- All Might certainly knew how to make love to you properly- but he was an incredibly big and well-endowed man and you were sore from the nights activities. Throwing on a dressing gown, you wander out to the living room, tying the strap across your waist.

The kitchen door is open, the smell of wholesome food wafting through the house. There he was, Toshinori Yagi, all decked out in his hero attire.

It was something you’d never expected to see in your whole life- the symbol of peace cooking pancakes in your kitchen and humming loudly. You giggle, a domestic All Might was something strange and oddly adorable. The man turns to see you, his unwavering smile growing larger.

“Ah, my love! Do not be hungry, for I am here!” He jokes on his catchphrase, brandishing two plates stacked with pancakes.

You have to pinch yourself for a moment. What did you do right to deserve Toshinori? You laugh in return, staring at him lovingly.

“What is it with you and waking up at ungodly hours?” You ask, shaking your head.

“Justice doesn’t sleep!” He replies simply.

He approaches, forgetting to duck when entering the living room, and whacks his head on the doorframe. You burst out laughing, and- oh my, is that a blush? He brushes it off good naturedly, still smiling.

“Grr. Your doorways are the biggest villains.” Your small home was older & not built with the needs of taller people or quirk users in mind. Which was fine for you, you were of normal size and your quirk didn’t enhance your height or anything of the sort. For Toshinori though, being an extremely tall man, it was an annoyance. Careful to duck this time, he sets the plates down on the small circular table in the sitting room. You both tended to eat there, as the kitchen was too small with only one window and often sweltering in the summer.

“Does it hurt? My poor baby... I’ll kiss it better.” You fawn over him like he’s a child jokingly- and though it embarrasses him a little, he can’t deny he loves the attention from you.

“Well..I’ve had worse,” he says, “but if I’m getting a kiss out of it...?”

You chuckle, peppering kisses over his forehead. He pulls you away from his forehead for a giant smooch on the lips, your morning breath and all. He doesn't really care, honestly. A kiss from you is a kiss he'd take any day.

After a kiss that dragged a little over the brief limit, he pulls away gently, caressing your cheek.

“Let’s not get carried away now, shall we? We still need to enjoy these pancakes I made.”

You notice he’d drawn a love heart in maple syrup on your topmost pancake. Your heart warms. What a dork.

You dig in eagerly. Toshinori was a good cook, though he tended to burn things sometimes. These pancakes were one of his successful dishes, though, and you enjoyed every bit.

“Damn. You need to make these again, Toshi. They’re amazing!”

“Really? Well, If that’s so then I’ll make you them whenever I have the time.” He grins.

“You feeling alright this morning?” He asks, on his second last pancake already. His plate had been stacked impossibly high, and you note with surprise that he’d wolfed down most of it in less than a few minutes.

“A little sore. But great. I love it when you’re here.” You smile shyly. He almost blushes too, recalling last night. Regaining his composure, he can hardly contain the smitten look on his face. Ah, hell, he can't help but say something cheesily romantic when you look at him like that.

“And I love being with you.” He says, his large hand finding yours across the table.

The radio blared suddenly, a warning broadcast, and Toshinori’s expression changed instantly, tensing.

There has been a large-scale villain attack downtown in the city centre. Heroes are on the scene but the situation has reportedly escalated. Anyone in the surrounding area should head to the nearest evacuation centre till the situation has been dealt with.”

Your heart drops, and he stands up, looking completely different for a moment.

“I must go,” He says, cape swishing as he heads to the door. You stand, wringing your hands together nervously. You try not to look so downfallen, but your eyes betray you.

“When will you be back?”

“I don’t know. I have to patrol for a few hours too.” He doesn’t miss the worried look on your face, and he places his large hands on your shoulders, forcing you to look at him. He smiles widely, a reassuring image not only to you but to the whole world.

“Have faith in me, Y/N. I love you.”

You bite your lip, taking a deep breath.

“You come home safe, you hear me Toshinori? If you die then I’ll kill you.”

He laughs at this, and gives you one last fleeting kiss.

“You say that every time. I’ll be back with you tonight. I promise.”

And then he races out the door at an amazing speed, leaving a breeze behind him. You stare at the open door, at the clear mornings sky. You think about him, and you worry. You try not to be so cynical. You didn’t hate his job, really, it was an honourable and just job. You admired him just as much as the next person.

Faith. You think of the word till it doesn't feel like a real word any more.

Have faith in me, he said. God, you did have faith in him. So much of it. But at the end of the day, you were scared. You knew he was strong- incredibly strong- but he was only human. You wondered how much he could take- the expectations and the guilt a hero had to face. And you wondered if someone out there was stronger than he.

He was feared, and he was hated, and he was ultimately loved, and that was a combination that only invited trouble.

You sat down at the TV and waited. Footage was soon to be live and you’d see him on screen with that smile everyone knew and loved, including you.

Please come home, toshinori.

please.
