Chapter Text
Five Days Before
“So.” Standing by the start of TSA, Scar nervously ran a hand through his hair. “You’re sure you’ll be okay? I want to be there if you need me and-“
Grian was really trying to focus on his words. Really. But the way the sun hit his friend’s form just right, the early morning air, it hit the perfect balance that had Grian blushing.
“-so you can call me anytime, okay?” Scar cut off abruptly, words dying on his lips. Not that Grian was staring. Just a glance from time to time, totally normally.
God, he really was too old to be lying to himself.
“I’ll be fine Scar, I promise.” Grian reached a hand out and wrapped his fingers delicately around Scar’s, ears training onto the delicate rush of breath that came from his companion. “Go see your family, tell Bdubs he’s a gremlin for me?”
“And what if I don’t want to leave, sunshine?”
Grian had a witty comeback, he swears he did. “I-, Scar.”
Their fingers were still intertwined. Grian’s index and middle fingers had unconciously drifted to Scar’s, pulse rapid. How would it feel to be pressed close, close enough to hear Scar’s heartbeat, to almost feel it as his own?
“Scar, if I didn’t know better I’d say you’re flirting with me.”
”And what if I was?”
The truth sat out in the open, a confession bith expected and entirely daunting at the same time. This had to be a dream. If so, Grian never wanted to wake, and to stay.
”Well,” Grian said, adoration dancing off every syllable, “Then hypothetically, if you were, I would kiss you.”
Scar’s eyes flickered, a wave of realization solidifying this as not a joke. This was real. “Then hypothetically, go right ahead.”
Winding one arm around Scar’s neck, Grian pulled him down close- only to press a soft peck to his cheek.
“I would love to. But sadly, you have a flight to catch. Wouldn’t want to make you late, oh no.”
They were both blushing now, feelings opening into hope and slowly more.
”Well, I’ll just have to see you when I get back.” Scar whispered, breaking the last veil of the world they had just to themselves.
Watching his retreating form, Grian whispered a promise under the arching windows.
”I’ll be waiting. I promise.”
