Chapter Text
Grian's POV
My eyes shot open. Something next to me was wet. I glanced down. It was my blood. Hadn't I fixed myself up...? I tried to glance at my wing. Very difficult when its wrapped up behind you. It was still wrapped up tightly, but blood had soaked through the bandages. Guess it never stopped bleeding.... huh... I looked at the floor again. The puddle wasn't large and was mostly dry already.
Suddenly, I remembered Scar. "Shit!" I stood up quickly, and lost my balance immediately and almost fell. Ugh... surely my body has recovered its strength? I glanced at the window. The sun looked to be in the exact same place as earlier. Did I sleep a whole day?? I shook my head and turned back to Scar. He'd barely move from where I'd put him... yesterday?
All of me hurt, not only because of the injuries from earlier, but also because the floor was not comfortable.
Carefully taking steps, I walked out to the kitchen. I could fix people, I knew my plants, I knew many things. I did not, however, know how to cook. Not even the simplest of meals. Every time I had tried, either me or Taurtis had ended up vomiting, sometimes both of us.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the kitchen. I remembered one time I'd almost burned our house down, but that had been years before. I glanced into the pantry, and took out an assortment of seasonings I had no idea how to use. All I knew was salt and pepper. I went to the fridge and peered in. maybe I don't have to cook...?
Thankfully, I did not have to cook. The soup from the day before was inside the fridge. I nearly jumped out of my skin when something touched my leg, but when I looked down, I found only Jellie. Sighing, I turned the stove on and placed the massive pot stop the flame. As I watched the soup heat up, I heard a noise from the room. A half groan half scream, but it was quiet, the sound as loud as regular talking.
My one usable wing flared, and I forced it back down as I crept towards the room. All I found was a heavily breathing, most definitely from an awake Scar. "Scar!" I yelled joyfully and somewhat relieved, moving forwards before tripping over my own legs and falling. Scar's green eyes appeared above me as he peeked over the edge of the bed. "Grian..?" He asked, voice quiet. I nodded vigorously as I sat up. "I'm so glad you're okay!!" I cried out, reaching to hug him but deciding other wise in case I caused more pain.
Scar's eyes widened when he saw my wing and bandaged eye. "Oh my god."
Me, being the dumbass I was, did not realize that he was looking at my injuries. "Mm? Whats wrong- OH MY GOD THE FOOD-!" I stood up, and stumbled to the kitchen, where I turned off the stove. Turning back, I almost shrieked when I found Scar in the kitchen doorway. "OH MY GOD GET BACK TO BED!!!!" I yelled, rushing over and guiding him back to his bed.
"Are you stupid?????? How could you even walk???" I said, head wings flapping anxiously.
"Grian-"
"Oh my god you're an idiot!" I interrupted, pushing him down onto the bed.
"Wait, Gria-"
"Stupid stupid stupid!" I cried out, interrupting him again.
"Grian, your eye."
His words froze me in my tracks. "Oh. I– that. I completely forgot about that."
"And your wing."
"Oh, uhm, yeah, that too." I laughed nervously.
"Are you okay? What happened??" He asked, eyes darting back and forth across my body. "And why dont you have a shirt on."
I let out a startled squeak, suddenly remembering I was half naked. I wrapped my arms tightly around my body, face flushed. "Well, um. It's very difficult with the wings... and stuff... yeah... haha..." I mumbled, hugging my chest.
Scar looked at me, eyes worried. "Answer my question."
"I did!"
"What. Happened."
"Oh." I stared at him, face paling. My legs grew weak and I almost collapsed. I sat down, scratching at my wrists; I always did it when I was nervous.
"So I saw your note and I got worried and then I went over to look for you and I found you and you were hurt then I saw the zombies and I fought them and then they hurt me but I got rid of them then I came home and helped you and stitched you up and then I slept and I woke up like half an hour ago and now your awake!" I said, speaking fast, probably too fast for him to understand.
"Hold on- slow down!" Scar said, voice loud in the small room. "Say it again, but slowly."
"Oh, uhm. Right, right! I read your note. I looked for you. I found you. So then I took care of the zombies. I got hurt. We came home, and stitched you up." I replied, more simple and slower then before.
"What???"
"Uh. Yeah." I smiled nervously, wings twitching.
"Is your eye okay?"
"Yup! More or less, anyways. But, Scar..."
I looked away, breathing deeply.
"So... your leg....was... really badly damaged... I'm not entirely sure how you managed to make it to the kitchen. There's badly injured muscle and nerves... and I don't think you're going to walk right again..."
"Oh."
"I'm sorry..." I replied, scratching my wrists and wringing my fingers together.
"Hey, hey, it's not your fault!"
"But it feels like it is..."
Scar's POV
Grian's words were deeply upsetting. Not the words on how I might not walk right, but the fact he'd almost gotten himself killed. The avian could barely even stand without his legs shaking, but I doubt he even noticed that. I saw the way he almost collapsed. He was already a pale dude, but he was paler then I'd ever seen him. "Oh my god, Grian. You're an idiot."
"Am not!" He argued, brows furrowing.
"You could've died!" I yelled.
"If I hadn't done that you would've died!"
"Well at least only one of us would've died! What would've happened if you got killed? I'd die, then we'd both be dead! Who would take care of this place?!" I yelled, raising my hands. I wasn't going to hit him, but the way he flinched away broke my heart. "Grian...?"
"Shut up." He murmured, standing up, using the wall for support as he hurried out of the room.
I went rigid as I heard the door to the outside open. "Grian, wait!" I yelled, standing up, my injured leg shaking beneath my weight. I winced sharply as I unsteadily walked forwards.
Grian's POV
I should've stayed inside. I thought as I stumbled into the cold air. It nipped at my nose, and bit sharply at my exposed chest and back. My teeth chattered as I felt the wind whip through my hair. I ruffled my wing against the chill, but I couldn't go inside now. Admiting I was cold and going back inside was cowardly. I had to stay outside and be upset for a while.
Sitting against the wall of the hut, I curled up, knees to chest and arms around knees. I wrapped myself up in my working wing, though it did nothing. This was caused by the immense feather loss, as I would normally be heating up quickly from here. The sun sank below the trees, shadows stretching. They danced about, wind shaking the leaves to make strange shapes.
I dragged a sharp, clawed finger through the dirt- the nice, fine, soft dirt. Distracted by the brown layer of the earth, I didn't notice the figure approaching. Somone placed a hand on my shoulder.
I made an inhuman sound, slapping the assailant sharply across the face. I lunged away, awkwardly tripping before whipping around fangs and claws bared. Whoever.... they.... were....
Scar??
"When did you get here?!" I yelled, voice quivering, not just from cold, but from the sudden shock of a hand. Wait, Scar??
"Didn't I just tell you to rest, you fucking dumbass?!" I yelled, wing flaring. My hair twisted and turned in the wind.
"Shut up, and get inside." Scar muttered, leg trembling.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" I cried out again, scowling. I stalked inside, arms crossed. I was cold. Like, really cold. I paused before shuffling back to the door. I reached up, and grabbed Scar by his ear, dragging the startled man through the semi-warm house. "Hey- ow!"
I shoved him in front of me, and pushed him onto the bed, recrossing my arms, my scowl deepening. "You're really stupid, you know that?" I hissed, tail flicking back and forth. "You're now on bedrest. You aren't to get off this bed without permission, unless you're using the bathroom. I must be present at times when you wish to stand, once again, the only exception is to use the bathroom." I snapped, frowning. "Idiot."
