Thanks,” Abolish said, moving to help Pyro upright. They opened their mouth to accept the gratitude… and froze, the scent of iron hitting the back of their throat.
Their eyes drifted down to Abolish’s palm—the one they hadn’t grabbed but were now being offered—and the scraped skin at the base of it. Blood pulsed underneath the thin layer, pulsed loud in their ears for a moment; Abolish’s slightly sped up heartbeat was the only sound in the forest.
It subsided. But the hunger stayed. Pyro grasped Abolish’s hand, his own hand taut under his crumbling resistance. Once upright Abolish looked at him for a long moment, as Pyro strained against the urge to lick the fresh blood from his fingers.
He needed to find the rest of the town out here. He didn’t want to know what would happen to Abolish if he didn’t. Growing hungrier, and hungrier, and more desperate.
Yes. He had to find the town.

Nikos stared at him a little before shrugging and going back to the blessing.
"We catch up later?"
"We catch up later."
He didn't even make it halfway to home before the coughing became too much and nearly caused him to drop out of the sky. Quickly, he landed and knelt over by the river. The coughing grew worse until finally, finally, the things that had been lodged in his throat escaped.
It was several lotus flower petals caked in his own blood.
There was nobody here but himself-no reason to play a role. No reason to steel himself and stand up like there wasn't anything wrong. No reason to wash his hands in the river and go back to his house like normal.
And yet he did.
He didn't know what else to do otherwise. What could he do except cling onto an act?
He was Scott and was absolutely not violently ill.

When Scott realizes he’s slowly dying of a strange flower petal disease and realizes it’s connected to Nikos somehow, he makes like the wind and runs away. It’s too bad the gods have other plans for him.
