Shelby was settling in great at her new job. She was making new friends, the owners were a lot more lax than the last place, and she could pay her rent on time!
Owen was a bit of a jerk, but he's just a scruffy kitten at heart, and his boyfriend Louis was an absolute doll. She didn't see Scott a lot, but he was the one to hire her on the spot just for applying. And Pyro was great security ... for Scott.
Things were going really well. She just finished training and was settling in her routine. Though, she felt like she was forgetting something. And it wasn't her garlic spray.

Like, I had the foundations for everything worked out in my head at home, but I need a whole new plan if I'm going to be spending Christmas here. I think that with us being vampires and everything, this is finally gonna be the year!"
The nice, engraved fountain pen she bought for Sausage has slid out of its packaging. Drift shifts onto her hands and knees to tuck it back into the bag. "What do you mean, this is gonna be the year? Why is there flour on the floor?"
Shelby's scoff is so packed with dismissal that for a second, Drift believes that it really is obvious, and that she's the one being weird. "Oh, come on. The year we catch Santa!"

"I didn't phrase it like that!" Scott fretted, glancing over to where Jimmy was still standing, oblivious to the three vampires' presence. Shelby blinked. That was definitely not normal Scott behaviour.
"Wait, Scott, you actually like him!" she realised aloud. Scott sent her a murderous glance, but Drift started giggling.
"You do! Oh, this is great", Drift teased. "Imagine if he accidentally got the tickets like, right next to us. Wouldn't that be soo cozy?" She elbowed Scott, who looked ready to massacre everyone in the theatre.

It's 2006, and Shelby meets a new guy at the library. Scott seems really interested in him, so she sets out to... help them a little. This doesn't go as planned at all, but maybe the two get along despite the failed set-ups.

"It was definitely tempting, the thought of being able to show the village and the whole internet that she had found a real vampire through her paranormal YouTube channel. Her channel that, admittedly, only had two subscribers; Scott, who just wanted to be supportive, and Avid, who just enjoyed watching what she posted. And not to mention the fact that the comments on every video were just Avid making pointed vampire comments at Scott, and Scott replying with the clown emoji."
Or: Oakhurst is a more modern town and Pyro is found dead with what looks like a bite. Avid convinces Shelby to investigate herself and prove that monsters are real, meanwhile Drift is trying to solve this definitely normal murder case on her own.
Featuring Drift/Shelby falling for each other, Avid getting stuck listening to his roommate and best friend rant about each other, Scott bullying Avid and definitely not being a vampire, and a murder case that you likely already know the culprit(s) of but will hopefully read anyway because everything in between is cool and new :D
I’d also like to add that, while the town is definitely modern now, guns aren’t real. Cause I wanna.The title is from Touch-Tone Telephone by Lemon Demon!

This place was huge! Like bigger than any building she has seen before. And the designs of it were that of an old ruins, and not the mention the castle off to the side of it—
She doesn’t regret her decision to come here. She runs up to the open doors, swerving a bit to avoid bumping into other students.
Walking inside was like walking through a portal to the past. The colours were dull, there was a cosy feeling. The windows were wide and stunning, and it felt like they didn’t even need the artificial lighting (although they probably did have it, Shelby doesn’t know).
As she was gawking, she bumps into someone. She stumbles back, before looking back up.
