It seemed that every new day brought Pyro more and more suffering. So many new things he never once in his life thought about having to deal with appearing, not letting him catch a break and one particular person that turned his life upside down.
Scott is doing everything he is used to doing - being a sire to his coven, and therefore taking all their fates in his hands. When he discovers that not everything is as expected, he decides to make it work in his favour, though not without consequences and byproducts on the way.

Scott had already begrudgingly risen from his supposed place of rest, and was now making his way back up to the surface. Step by step, brick by brick. Thoughts racing throughout his mind far too fast for him to process. This wasn't supposed to happen.
Scott didn't want to wake up. He thought that it would be enough, that he could pass peacefully and no longer be haunted by the grief that followed the murder of his darling other half. But alas, his methods had failed, he was starving, and he was now left with one choice. He had to keep going. He had to find a way to bring Avid back.

The song says that you will meet a stranger across a crowded room on an enchanted evening. Scott thinks that's bullshit. In all his years, he's never *once* met a stranger in an enchanted evening. This case only proves his point further.
New York City, New York, 2006. Cloudier than Okahurst had been, muggier than the Loch on a bad day, and more crowded than a Wal-Mart on Black Friday. He didn't meet the eyes of a stranger he was meant to fall in love with across a room. No. Instead, he locked eyes with a *very* familiar man he hadn't seen in centuries.
But, credit where credit is due. The song said "crowded" and the streets of New York were that and more.
