Chapter 1: Opening doors

Chapter Text

a radio was perched ontop of a dusty counter, blasting a familiar scrubb song that got the three boys moving. the only source of comfort during the bittersweet day.

boxes were scattered across the floor of the small cafe, some stacked on top of each other, replicating a visual representation of the leaning tower of pisa; defying gravity somehow and balancing in the air. each one of the cardboard prisons carrying different parts of a life that seemed to have changed over night.

teetee stood in the middle. waving goodbye to his friends who looked at him with a bitter sweet expressions. north with an expression that conveyed emotions he’d never admit to having and wave crying his eyes out while placing down the last box.

“you better call us every week jackass.”

north pointed at teetee

“yeah you better!—“

wave squealed from beside him. wiping his tears away aggressively.

teetee simply chuckled at his friends antics. the trio had been inseparable since high school, attached at the hip even, so when teetee had sat them down and told them he’d be moving to the country side hell had broken loose. the thought of one of them being separated put all of them on edge, even if they’d never admit it.

“woah, is north really crying?”

teetee stepped closer, wrapping an arm around the sobbing wave while looking at north who had suspiciously turned around and started rubbing his eyes.

“shut the fuck up somethings in my eye.”

he bit back before turning back to the shorter pair, his eyes red rimmed and slightly puffy.

teetees teasing expression softened, opening his arms wider. north took the invitation immediately. his arms tangling with the other two. his tears soaking into waves white top.

“…ill miss you two.”

the one leaving whispered. his voice hoarse as he held back his tears.

“w-we’ll visit every month.”

wave mumbled, muffled by teetees shoulder.

“we can take turns visiting each other.”

teetee tightened his grip.

north nodded

“if you stop responding to the groupchat ill drive up here and drag your ass all the way back to bangkok asshole”

wet chuckles erupted from the trio.

“wave your snot is getting on me!”

teetee groaned

“good! thats what you get for leaving.”

the boy snorted. wiping his nose on teetees shirt, making sure to not spare north either.

“wave how could you do that! ill leave you here and drive back alone!”

the hug had broken, wave running around  teetee and the counters while north chased.

teetees smile flickered, his eyes dimming slightly.

he was going to miss this. miss them. so, so much.

the first thing por thought when he woke up was “what the fuck is that noise?” he had stayed up all night revising for his english exam and had barely slept two hours when the noise had started. loud, cheerful laughter that clawed at his ears as well as some nostalgic tunes he couldnt bring himself to remember.

“what the fuck are they doing out here”

he muttered, pulling his curtains open with more force than necessary as he glared out his window

bingo.

across from the house his parents had worked so hard to build was a small, cottage-like building he had never paid too much attention too. it was old and shabby, seemed abandoned too. well, before the loud idiots have moved in.

but now, he couldn’t look else where. the building was bubbling with energy, three boys who looked his age,no, younger, definitely younger, the youthful charm that radiated off of them had yet to be stomped on by the hardships of adult life. they were carrying full boxes in while bringing emptied ones out, their laughter echoing down the street without a care in the world.

por felt his stomach tighten. that familiar pull in his muscles whenever he knew he’d never accomplish something. whether it was getting the highest score in the college or finding someone who made him feel worthy.

he felt disgusted. maybe even envious.

why didnt he get to experience the joy of youth while they did? what did they do that he didnt? was he really that unworthy?

three sharp taps on the door knocked him out his spiral.

“por. bring these fruits to the new neighbour!”

his mother called out from behind the door. her voice calm and polished, not a slither of emotion showing, almost like a robot that had been programmed.

“coming mother.”

                                   ( 2tee )

teetee was sat on the floor of his new place, leaning against his unboxed furniture, his hands cupping his face as he sobbed quietly. wave and north had left a few minutes ago and the realisation of his new life had finally dawned on him properly.

maybe he should just go back. what if it doesnt work out? what if this was just another one of his reckless decisions that ended up burdening the people around him?

“um. excuse me.”

a voice called out, knocking on the open door.

teetee sat up immediately, wiping his tears quickly

“o-oh hello!” he swallowed his tears back, going to the front door, only to forget everything he had been crying about. the sight before him made him freeze.

‘fuck. this boy is beautiful.’

he stared in shock, lost in a daze as his lips parted in awe

“im your neighbour.”

the angel started speaking, nudging teetee back to reality with a soft flick of his tongue

“i live over there, with my parents”

he pointed to the house across.

teetee followed the finger, admiring the pale, smooth skin of the shorter boy.

“my parents told me to give you this.” the boy said, holding out fruit

teetee stared at the basket before taking it quickly

“o-oh! thank you!” he blurted out, his voice still hoarse from crying

“im— im teetee—“ he started as he turned away to place the fruit basket down, only to turn around and be met with the boy already across the road.

“what a weirdo.” por muttered to himself

“does he really think i didnt notice him staring at me?” he scoffed, storming up to his room.

“did you give the fruit?”

a voice called out from across the hallway, there stood his mother. her long, dark brown hair pulled back into a braid, dress brushing against her ankles. she looked like a painting. perfect, like always.

“yeah. i did.”

por snapped, his hands curled to tight fists, nails digging cresents into his soft palms.

“dont use that tone with me brat.”

por felt his back go rigid, straightening almost immediately.

“sorry mother, i.. i didnt mean too”

she kissed her teeth in disapproval

“well? why are you just standing there. dont you have that english exam soon? go revise. instead of being the disappointment you usually are, maybe this time you can actually make your father and i proud by bringing back the top score.”

her voice was clipped, almost bored. as if he was wasting her time.

he didnt reply, shutting his bedroom door behind him. settling at his table with a heavy heart. his hand trembling as he picked up his pen to resume his work.

“its fine. shes just stressed.”

he told himself. forcing himself to look down at his book despite having to reread the same three words to try and focus. her words lingering in the corners of his mind.

brat.

disappointment.
