Chapter Text
“Minister Fudge, what can I do for you?” The President greeted him as Keigo bowed.
Minister Fudge’s office was warm from the large fireplace next to an ornately designed desk underneath a portrait of some witch/wizard Keigo didn’t recognize. Fudge himself was busy writing on a piece of parchment before looking up at his guests.
Minister Fudge looked up, “Ah, hello Madam President, good to see you,”
“I assume this is a follow up to our conversation last week?” Madam President took a seat, Keigo moving to be at her right. All he had been told was to meet her at HQ’s lobby at 14:00 sharp.
His wings gave a slight twitch. This must be something big.
Minister Fudge took a letter out of a desk drawer and gave it to Madam President. She neatly opened the envelope and silently read the contents.
That emblem…it couldn’t be..!
“I’ll assign a couple of handlers to retrieve the materials. In the meantime I’ll train him to make the mission run smoothly,” she finally responded.
“Wonderful,” Minister Fudge nodded before adding, “And…are you sure you think he’s good enough? Whatever happens during this mission affects the Ministry, and if he takes even one step out of line the Ministry could–”
“We will take precautions, Fudge. This is our best agent since Lady Nagant. No one will suspect anything. Besides,” Keigo took a quick glance to the side as Madam President clenched a fist, “he already knows the consequence of failure.”
Minister Fudge looked pleased. “Never thought your little Commission would come in handy once the war was won,” he chuckled, “I’m glad I didn’t listen to Dumbledore this time.”
Madam President gave him a small, strained smile.
“Of course, Minister Fudge. I’ll talk to you once the assignment is underway. Come, Keigo.” She stood up and motioned for him to follow. He couldn’t help the smile on his face and the twitching of his wings as they made their way back to HQ.
He was going to Hogwarts!
That was four weeks ago. Now he was comfortably sitting on one of the Gryffindor common room’s couches as he wrote his first report:
‘Takami, Keigo. 11-9-01. 22:45. To Madam President:
Mission is going well so far. I have earned Potter’s companionship. He has also befriended Ronald Weasley and Rubeus Hagrid, the groundskeeper.
Classes are good. Snape is cruel to those not a part of Slytherin. McGonagall’s classes are strict, though she presents herself as a tough but fair sort of teacher. Binns is still teaching, and although the subject is fascinating, the way he presents it lacks passion, unlike Sprout and Flitwick. Quirrell is the D.A.D.A teacher this year. He acts scared of his own craft.
The–’
“Hey Keigo! Oh, are you still writing your mum?” a redheaded boy had poked his head into the common room.
“Yeah, Ron! I’ll be in the dorm in a few minutes; Don’t worry,” Keigo called out. He continued writing:
‘The new students are interesting as well. There is a Homo Amphibia individual. He seems decent. Sorted into Hufflepuff. Endeavor’s (no wait back that up) Enji Todoroki’s eldest son is in Slytherin, alongside many other children from those who initially were suspected Deatheaters. I shall keep an eye on them if you wish.
Thank you for the opportunity.’
Simple as that. He put the letter in an envelope and sealed it with the Commission's stamp.
For a first mission, this was probably the best one he could ever ask for. When had he last been outside the Ministry’s walls? Years, probably. This was a chance to spread his wings (quite literally in his case) and witness more freedom than he’d ever have.
One slipup could and he would be done. But he wouldn’t fail. They called him their best for a reason.
Flying would probably become his worst subject. How would riding a broom even work with his wings? He would probably have to lay them as flat as possible, along with his body on the broom. It was vaguely interesting.
“Are you excited for flying lessons, Keigo?” Ron asked. Everyone else certainly was.
Hermione sounded nervous as she recounted fact upon fact about the wizard sport Quidditch, flying, and brooms.
“I’m not even sure I’d be good on a broom,” he admitted, “But I’ll try,” he added a chuckle.
There were expectations here, of course. He had to perform at his best. Don’t give any Ministry secrets away either.
If someone asks you about your history, tell them: ‘I was adopted by a ministry official. She lets me explore her department sometimes. I’m not allowed to talk about it’. And also, ‘My birth parents are dead, too’. Repeat if necessary.
Madam President made sure to drill it in his head.
None of this meant that he couldn’t make friends outside of the objective. He glanced over towards the Slytherin table.
Draco Malfoy was exceptionally loud. It was honestly rather grating to his ears, but if they were plotting anything, it wouldn’t be hard to listen in. But he’d just have to wait on the reply.
Right now he was bragging, once again, about his bi-weekly care package and how his mom loves him so much and how he’s always happy to share with his friends.
After announcing to the table to not touch his new stuff, he left the table with Crabbe and Goyle jr. . A light blue haired boy, Shigaraki if he remembered from the ceremony, looked around the table before sneaking his hand into the packaging, taking some of its contents and passing it over to either the Hufflepuff table or passing it to his accomplice, Todoroki.
He would’ve kept watching if Malfoy and co. hadn’t shown up at their table and caused Professor McGonagall to interfere. As classes were starting he glanced back at the Slytherin table to see Shigaraki attempting to hide the damage he caused to said package as Malfoy and friends were walking back.
His heart thumped in his chest. He would see them again this afternoon. Then he could act on his secondary missions.
“What’s it like to have wings?” Hermione asked him on the way down to the pitch. Ron looked like she had just said something insulting.
“You can’t just ask that,” he half-whispered to her. Although Harry looked just as curious next to him.
“It’s fine, it’s fine,” Keigo assured her. “It’s…kinda hard to explain. They’re like an arm or a leg: they’re natural for me. Sure, it can be difficult to go through tight or narrow spaces, and they need daily maintenance, but they’re mine. I like them. They’re…important to me.”
Yeah, that was it. The Commission liked his wings too; said they were important, that he was chosen because of them.
But enough of that. They were the last to arrive with the Slytherins idly standing by as their professor, Madam Hooch, was setting up the broomsticks on the ground. She was wearing a black and white striped shirt and had short, graying hair, with eyes that made him feel he was staring in a mirror. As he went up to a spot Madam Hooch gave him a confused look to which he matched with a ‘what?’ motion with his eyebrows. She looked away and barked at everyone to get a spot.
From across the row he could see Shigaraki and Todoroki. When the professor told them how to lift up their brooms, his hardly moved. He tried again. It lifted several centimeters before falling once more.
“C’mon, up, up!” he pleaded with it quietly. On the third try it flew into his hand, allowing him to give a little smile.
He looked back across the field. Todoroki’s jumped halfway through before he caught it whilst it was midair. Shigaraki’s refused to budge as he then started to yell at it. On the final ‘UP, stupid!’, the broom rocketed towards his hand, making him stumble from the force. He heard some laughter from both sides, Todoroki included. Madam Hooch settled everyone down and instructed them how to mount the broom properly.
He was going to excel, no matter how ‘uncessesary’ it was for him. He willed his wings to constrict and flatten on his back to increase his aerodynamics.
He didn’t even get the chance to kick off before Neville rocketed off the ground screaming. He managed to reach around 6 meters before he tilted off the broomstick and fell.
His instincts acted before he could think. He flew up almost immediately and caught the boy, albeit he fell a few feet due to the force of catching an 11 year old mid-air.
The Gryffindors clapped and cheered when he landed.
“5 points to Gryffindor! Thank you, Takami,” Hooch congratulated him before looking at the sky and cringing.
“I’m gonna have to ask Hagrid to get that one back. In the meantime you can borrow mine,” she tossed a broom over to Neville.
She instructed them to hover about a meter from the ground. Surprisingly, he was pretty good at hovering.
Keep your wings narrow, body flat. Don’t put too much pressure on the front or you’ll fall.
Neville hardly went off the ground. Keigo didn’t blame him. Harry looked absolutely ecstatic in comparison. The row across was doing relatively the same. The bright blue eyes of Todoroki kept catching his eye, however. It reminded him of when he was six; safety, relief, don’t focus on the past, Keigo. What’s done is done.
“Shigaraki! You have to keep both your hands firmly on the broomstick,” Madam Hooch was criticising the student’s hand grip.
“I know what I’m doing,” Shigaraki talked back. Some of his fingers were sticking out from his grip.
He wobbled on said broom before turning upside-down, leaving Shigaraki hanging.
She promptly left him and monitored the other students while he called for help. Thankfully it wasn’t for long because Madam Hooch blew her whistle again for them to come down, or fall in Shigaraki’s case.
“Good lesson today! I’m going over to retrieve that stray broomstick, and in the meantime none of you are to move, or you’ll be expelled faster than you can say ‘Quidditch’!”
So, he decided to walk across to say hi to Todoroki.
“Why do we even have to do this I’m never going to use this in real life I live in a–”
“Hey there, that was some nice, uh, hovering you guys,” Keigo greeted the pair, interrupting a grumbling Shigaraki.
“Hi…” Todoroki was confused.
“Who the hell are you?” Shigaraki was scratching the side of his head.
“I’m Keigo. Keigo Takami,” he stuck out his hand. Shigaraki looked at the hand, then at Keigo and scowled. Todoroki quirked an eyebrow,
“What do you want?” he asked, sounding tired.
Try to make a joke. “Can’t I be friendly to the other team?” he added a chuckle towards the end.
Silence.
“You guys ever flown before?” He went for another option. Talk about the subject.
“No,” Shigaraki answered quickly.
Todoroki gave a ‘so-so’ movement with his hand, “Basic hovering. Nothing above the fenceline.”
“Cool, cool. I’ve never flown on a broom before either,” Keigo rubbed the back of his neck.
More silence.
God this was becoming awkward. Good thing the arguing between Harry and Malfoy got his attention. He turned around to see Hermione yelling at Harry to get down as Neville was crying on the ground clutching his hand to his chest.
He ran to Hermione and asked what happened.
“Malfoy found Neville’s remembrall and Harry challenged him to give it back. He’s going to get in trouble!” she pointed to the sky. He made it just in time to see Harry plummeting downwards after the ball and toppling onto the grass. He could’ve died, what were you thinking??
The Head of House thought the same, as she raced to the field and demanded Harry follow her. He turned towards Neville,
“Are you okay?”
Neville nodded, holding his remembrall with his other hand.
“They grabbed my wrist pretty hard, but I don’t think it’s broken,” he explained.
“You should still go to the hospital wing to check it out,” Keigo suggested.
Neville nodded a thanks, Madam Hooch came back and docked the Slytherins a few points.
“See you around!” he called to Shigaraki and Todoroki as they left after class, not seeing their reactions as he headed back to the castle with Ron and Hermione.
Harry was telling them about his new Seeker position at dinner. Youngest seeker in a century. He sounded so excited. Apparently his father was good at it too.
“Just be careful, alright. They don’t put first-years on Quidditch teams for a reason,” just try to be the voice of reason.
“You’ll catch me if I fall, right?” Harry looked at him.
“Of course,” came the immediate reply.
This was his mission. He would keep Harry Potter safe, no matter how many rules he had to break. Wait, no, he still had to be enrolled.
After the Weasley twins had left Malfoy and his crew showed up. Along with a familiar fourth member,
“Oh hey Shigaraki, what are you doing here?” He noticed the light blue haired boy in the back. Frankly he looked like he really didn’t want to be here.
“They forced me to be a part of their party for this ridiculous side quest,” Shigaraki started scratching his neck.
“Don’t talk to that half-bred freak!” Draco snapped. “Anyways, I’m surprised you haven’t already been sent back on the train to the Muggles,”
"You're a lot braver now that you're back on the ground and you've got your little friends with you,” Harry responded coolly.
"I'd take you on anytime on my own," said Malfoy. "Tonight, if you want. Wizard's duel. Wands only, no physical contact. What's the matter? Never heard of a wizard's duel before, I suppose?"
“Hold on a min–”
"Of course he has," said Ron, wheeling around. "I'm his second, who's yours?”
“I really don’t think–”
Malfoy looked at his friends and smirked,
“Shigaraki,”
“WHAT?” Shigaraki screeched but Malfoy ignored him,
“Midnight, all right? Meet you in the trophy room? It’s always unlocked.” and then they all left.
Now as Ron explained what a wizard duel was, Keigo poked at his chicken legs. Fine; this was fine. Any potential rule-breaking could be reported to his handlers, aka the guardians put on his emergency contacts. But, if it was in the name of Harry Potter…
His heart beat faster. Something…primal tugged at him. Flying free from the order that’s been in his life since, what, 6? It was tempting.
Hermione went up to them and called them selfish for their plan. But that’s where he came in. He’d make sure his mission would go smoothly.
11:32. He cracked open an eye. They were out of bed. It was difficult to see, but he had good enough eyesight in the dark. A good harpy trait to inherit, they told him.
He put on some socks and hopped over to the common room through the spiral staircase. There was a room surrounded by shadows save for a lone lit lamp, the darkness cowering from its bright presence. Someone else was here. Might be Hermione. Maybe Neville? Since the flying lesson Keigo hadn’t seen his fellow peer. He turned the lamp off before creaking open the portrait. There were darkened figures at the end of the corridor. Perfect.
He tried to stop this earlier, he really did. He talked to Ron and Harry while they were in the common room.
“Keigo, stop. I want to do this,” was Harry’s reply. So he didn’t push it.
It was easier to fly. Technically, he wasn’t allowed to, but there was nothing to get in the way at night.
A few hallways down he finally caught up to them.
“AH!” Neville screamed, immediately being shushed by the other three.
“What’re you doing here?” Ron asked.
“I’m your friend; I came to help you guys,” Keigo explained.
“Hush!” Hermione shushed them, “We’re all going to get caught if you’re this loud.”
The five of them walked through darkened hallways lined with moonlight from the barred windows above. He was watching for any signs of outside movement, but there was nothing. How big was this castle?
“Why are you even here?” Hermione asked him, slightly surprising him.
“Support. If they were going to do this, then at least I can help them,” Keigo explained.
“But why?” she asked again.
“You guys are my friends,” was his answer.
Finally, they made their way to the trophy room on the third floor.
“ACHOO!” came from the room followed by loud, raspy coughs.
Harry and Ron readied their wands.
The trophy room was cast in an illuminated glow, reflected from the trophy cases. The air swirled with dust as a silhouette idled about, looking at the cases. The middle of the room was where one could really see, the corners completely black.
“Where’s Malfoy?” Harry confronted the figure, pointing his wand.
“I don’t know, he said he was coming,” Shigaraki rasped before coughing again.
They looked around a bit.
“He’s late. Maybe he chickened out,” Ron whispered. Harry still had his wand out.
“We could still fight that guy,” Ron pointed his own wand to Shigaraki. The latter milled about before starting to walk to one of the corners. Wait, what was that blue–
He didn’t have time to finish that thought before Keigo heard a noise from the next room.
“Sniff around, my sweet. I heard something from the trophy room.”
Filch and Mrs. Norris were coming. Harry must’ve heard it too, for he started waving his arms towards the opposite door.
“C’mon!” Keigo whispered to the group. Shigaraki noticed too late, transfixed on a particular trophy.
“Wait! Da–” he called out before a hiss and a door creak cut him off.
“I GOT ONE!” Filch declared. The group started to break into a run as more hissing and yelling echoed from the trophy room.
They crept through a hallway full of suits of armor, hearts beating faster and faster. Filch must have put Mrs. Norris in charge of his new prisoner as he was nearing the group.
A loud *BANG* came from the trophy room, and Filch ran the opposite way.
“RUN!” Harry yelled. Neville bumped into a full suit of metal armor, which created further crashing and clanging. Keigo whipped his head around.
“I don’t think anyone’s following us!” He called out to the group. He tried to slow down, but the socks he wore gave him little friction. He crashed into Hermione who knocked into Harry and the group ripped through a tapestry hiding a hidden passage. It led them near their Charms’ classroom.
“I think we lost them,” Harry panted. Keigo shook out his feathers. Everyone was exhausted and wheezing from running halfway through a giant castle.
“We’ve got to get back to Gryffindor Tower as quickly as possible,” said Ron.
“Malfoy tricked you,” Hermione told Harry and Ron. "You realize that, don't you? He was never going to meet you. Filch knew someone was going to be in the trophy room, Malfoy must have tipped him off."
“What about the other one?” asked Neville.
“Maybe he got tricked too. Roped into something he had no business in,” Keigo suggested. The other Slytherin certainly gave him that impression earlier this evening.
“Or maybe he was in on it this whole time!” Ron proclaimed. “Stall us until Filch rounded us all up.”
“Let’s just go,” Harry motioned them.
Then Peeves showed up. The poltergeist started cackling at the sight of them.
"Wandering around at midnight, Ickle Firsties? Tut, tut, tut. Naughty, naughty, you'll get caughty~.”
“Hey man, can you just let us go, please?” Keigo asked.
“Should really tell Filch, I should, Harpy-boy,” Peeves grinned wickedly despite his overly-sweet tone, “It’s for your own good. Wouldn’t want youse getting expelled, would we?”
“Just this once, please? We won’t do it again, right guys?” He looked to his companions. They seemed to get the hint and nodded profusely.
Peeves nodded and gave a dramatic bow and let them pass.
“Good job, Keigo,” commented Harry.
But they were no more than a dozen paces before Peeves bellowed,
"STUDENTS OUT OF BED! STUDENTS OUT OF BED DOWN THE CHARMS CORRIDOR!”
Oh good god. The group picked up their pace to run for their lives, yet again, as Filch practically materialized from Peeves’ shout.
They slammed into a locked door. Hermione shoved Harry out of the way as she used her wand to cast, “Alohomora!”, and they retreated into the room.
As Harry pressed his ear against the door, Keigo and Neville took a look at their surroundings. It wasn’t a room; no it was a giant corridor…with a massive dog. A massive three-headed spotted dog atop what looked like some sort of trapdoor. It blinked its eyes open and yawned before starting to stand.
Neville was hurriedly tugging at Harry’s sleeve, and when the rest of them finally looked behind them equally terrified. The giant dog (wasn’t it called a Cerberus? A vague creature lesson came to the brink of his mind), with its yellowish fangs and angry glares growled thunderously. Harry quickly opened the door again and they bolted back to the tower after swiftly locking the forbidden door.
They made it back to the common room safe enough, and collapsed into the armchairs. They all looked out of breath and traumatized.
"What do they think they're doing, keeping a thing like that locked up in a school?" said Ron, finally. "If any dog needs exercise, that one does.”
At this point Keigo started laughing uncontrollably. What was that? After the terror of the past events came down, thrill replaced it.
“I sure hope you lot are pleased with yourselves,” she gave a pointed glare at all of them, stopping Keigo’s untimely laughter. “Didn’t you see what it was standing on?”
“Oh yeah, a trapdoor I think,” he finally spoke. Neville nodded along. Harry just looked confused.
“Obviously, it’s guarding something. We could have all been killed – or worse, expelled. Now if you don’t mind I’m headed to bed!” with that she walked off to the girl’s room.
“I’m gonna take Neville with me to bed too. G’night,” Keigo coaxed Neville and they tiptoed up the stairs to their own beds.
That was…certainly illegal. Why did it feel like such a high? Flying free at Hogwarts, huh? What a joke. God it was going to be a long year.
Hermione wasn’t talking to the boys after last night. Understandable, but he still sat near her.
“Sorry about what happened,” he told her at breakfast.
“It’s not your fault,” she replied, taking a bite out of her cereal.
“Maybe,” he shrugged, “But I should’ve tried harder to stop them.”
“It’s not your job to monitor them,” she argued. If only she knew.
He let out a little laugh. “You’re right.”
It was a nice morning. He felt a little bad for Shigaraki as he peered over to the Slytherin table. Malfoy looked like he was ranting to his lackeys as Shigaraki and Todoroki were far away from them. Unfortunately he couldn't actually see their faces.
“Do you still want to be friends?” he asked his companion. The Commission never told him he couldn’t make other friends besides Potter.
“Of course. I’ve never really had friends before,” she sighed.
“Neither have I.” Which was true. Friendship with the other participants wasn’t really…viable in his particular case.
“Do you want to study during the weekend?” she asked, her eyes shining.
“Okay!” he agreed, smiling.
So, they agreed to meet at the library on Sunday afternoon. He still hadn’t gotten a letter back from the Commission, but it was probably coming soon. This was an important mission, after all.
The library was a vast archive. Hundreds, maybe even thousands of books towering from higher-than-life shelves lighted by soft candles and the power of the sun from the large windows. He found Hermione by the entrance near the librarian’s desk.
They had a long potions assignment for the weekend. That class was not fun, with Snape being Snape, and Shigaraki glaring at his group every chance he got, like staring at them like he was trying to disintegrate them on the spot. It looked stupid if Keigo didn’t know they practically abandoned him that previous night.
Most of the tables were either empty or half-full of small groups. Faint conversation could be heard from the very back of the room.
“You think other first-years are here too?” she asked.
They followed the noise to a group of five.
There were papers and quills scattered across the table. Three students were situated on the left, and two on the right.
“Todoroki, hey!” Keigo recognized the shock of white hair and mismatched skin among them. The other boy turned to the side, blue eyes narrowing.
“The hell do you two want?”
Hermione was undeterred, “Is this a study group?”
The one in the middle left slid under the table and reappeared next to them.
“Good afternoon, my young compatriots. My name is Atsuhiro Sako, though if you’d like you can call me Mr. Compress! Care to join our practice session?” He took a bow.
“Yes, please,” Hermione nodded, and they took the empty seats. Sako went back to his own chair by going around the table.
The androgynous student next to Sako turned towards Hermione.
“Aren’t you from Gryffindor?” they asked.
Hermione nodded. “You’re a second year, right? I think I’ve seen you around the common room.”
“I’m Kenji Hikiishi, nice to meet you,” she smiled.
“This is Jin and Suuichi,” Kenji pointed to the blond and lizardman.
“Welcome; Get lost!”
“Hey there,” Iguchi waved his hand.
The chairback pressed uncomfortably on his wings, but he was used to that.
Being in this study group served not just academic insight. Sako and Hikiishi, who had the nickname of Magne, acted as a duo, with Sako being the more outgoing, dramatic one and Hikiishi was more the voice of reason.
“Have you ever seen a magic trick, dear Keigo?” Sako asked after half an hour.
“Like, a magic magic trick? Or…” Iguchi questioned.
Sako brought out a pack of cards, shuffled it, then fanned it in front of Keigo.
“Pick a card, any card,” Sako grinned.
Keigo could hear Hermione groan. Iguchi seemed to recognize what was happening, and Todoroki looked vaguely interested.
He chose a card after some deliberation. A four of hearts.
“Memorized it?”
Keigo nodded.
He handed it back to the older student, who then re-shuffled the deck. He tracked the card as it was moved around. The speed was rather fascinating. How did Sako do it?
“Is this your card?” Sako picked a card from the deck again and showed it to him. He frowned.
“You did it wrong,” Todoroki drawled from over Keigo’s shoulder.
Sako only smirked. “Did I really?”
He reached towards the side of Keigo’s head and showed off a card, giving it to Keigo.
No wonder it suddenly disappeared from his sight.
Iguichi clapped. “I’ve never seen a magic trick in person before.”
Neither had he.
“Huh, neat,” Todoroki leaned back in his chair.
Hermione still looked unimpressed.
“Yeah, he’s been practicing since we were kids,” Hikiishi explained.
“Personally, I think real magic is far more interesting,” Hermione declared.
“Magic’s alright; It’s freaking great!” Jin added.
Sako twirled a pen in his hand. That was another thing he noticed at this table: you could tell who grew up in more wizard-oriented families, or at least who embraced it.
“Maybe you’re right, but don’t both types of act require skill, precision, and dexterity,” Sako made a motion with his hands and the pen he was holding disappeared.
“See? You hid it–”
“A magician never reveals his secrets!” Sako raised his voice to cut her off. The librarian called out to shush them.
“You shouldn’t take his magic away,” Todoroki muttered as he continued on his homework.
“Hey, I thought it was pretty cool,” Keigo admitted. He’d never actually seen muggle magic up close before. He could probably pick it up quickly if he tried.
“So where do you come from?” Hikiishi asked after about 10 or so minutes of quiet busywork. “Compress and I were some of the few wizards in our town by Cambridge, so we hung around often.”
“I live in London with my mother,” the response was almost instant from Keigo. Just as practiced.
Todoroki nodded along. Of course he would live there as well.
“I’m north of London,” Hermione added.
“My village is near Penzance,” Iguchi said.
“On the Border of England; No, in Wales. I live by the border.” Jin sighed as he tried to continue an essay.
“What’s it like to work in the Wizarding World?” Hermione asked, “Both my parents are dentists.”
Keigo could see from the corner of his eye Todoroki’s quill stilled.
“My mom works there. I get to hang out sometimes. It’s..nice,” another practiced line. Was it nice? Better than the past.
“My dad works there! I’m not really sure what he does, but it doesn’t pay the best,” Iguchi leaned further down to the table.
“That’s the ministry for you,” Todoroki glared at his paper.
“Don’t be like that, Todoroki, they’re not that bad,” Keigo put his hand on the other boy’s shoulder, who bristled away. Iguichi looked concerned.
Sako blinked. “Your father’s Endeavor?”
“Is it true he can do fiendfyre?” Keigo asked. Endeavor never really crossed paths with the HPSC, but he’d heard rumors. And how could he forget the face of fire forever imprinted in his best memories.
“That’s it I’m leaving,” Todoroki got up and grabbed his stuff, his voice terse.
“Wait, Todoroki, come back,” Keigo grabbed onto Todoroki’s sleeve.
“Get off me!” Todoroki growled, pulling Keigo off. Those are the same eyes from the trophy room, he thought.
The librarian shushed their table again, but Todoroki continued to walk out of the library.
“Well that was certainly a dramatic exit,” Sako quietly commented after a good minute.
“I hope he’s alright,” Iguchi looked back towards the door.
As the session continued Keigo couldn’t help but tune out the quiet chatter.
He’d just ruin his chance to befriend his hero’s son.
A tad surprisingly, he found a letter resting on his pillow that night.
‘Takami:
Your report is satisfactory.
Any further investigation is not necessary.
Remember, you are representing both the Commission and the Ministry.
P.S; Good work on your first week. Keep it up, you’re doing great.
-Yokumiru Mera. Vice President.'
A smile crept onto Keigo’s face. It was nice to know Mera still looked out for him over the years.
It was only the first month. You didn’t ruin anything. You can still make outside friends. Yeah, he can amend his failure. There was still time!
He would succeed. He couldn’t afford not to.
